StamkosFan Appeal - Leafs4ever - 08-24-2020

Hello SHL,

The Owners group received an appeal from @StamkosFan regarding this punishment. After reviewing the appeal and the subsequent information, we have decided to reduce the 10 game suspension to a 4 game suspension. We felt, given the relatively low TPE count that was claimed wrongly, 10 games, especially in the playoffs, was too harsh on top of the rest of the punishment (which will stay the same).

While we are lowering the punishment, we still wanted to emphasize that being lazy/careless with your updates is still not tolerated. There are some checks and balances, but at the end of the day we need our players to be mindful when doing updates.

We now consider the matter closed.

Regards,
SHL Owners

Revised Punishment:
- $5,000,000 bank fine.
- Removal of the illegally earned TPE (16). This has already happened as part of the audit process.
- Ola Wagstrom will be suspended for 4 games, effective immediately.
- TPE penalty of 8 TPE, in addition to the 16 TPE already removed.
*Bold indicates change to original punishment

Fair, but with this line

How did you justify the 10 games in the first place?

RE: StamkosFan Appeal - Zema - 08-25-2020

At least you have put into place a fair punishment, but there needs to be a discussion about how these things are being handled.

Why are you putting down a punishment of 10 games when you yourselves consider it too harsh so you drop it by 6 games? What does this process even look like? "Yeah, we're handing out an over-the-top punishment at first but we fully expect them to appeal it so we can make it more fair." Is that the way you are thinking?

It feels so backwards that you guys are handing out a punishment that is insanely big (which you must agree on) to then revert it less than one day later. I would love to know why things are processed this way and the reasoning behind it, because all it does is sow dissent for HO in the long term while painting yourselves as incompetent.

HO is the one that determines the punishment.

League owners are the ones that receive and make decisions upon appeals.

They are different entities, albeit ones that often work together. Hope this clears some of this up.

The original punishment is HO, the appeals are normally owners I believe? So different people looking into it would make the difference for sure

It's like selling a car. Put it up for 10k, hope it sells, and take less when someone offers you 4.

RE: StamkosFan Appeal - PremierBromanov - 08-25-2020

as an aside, can we adopt a suspension format like the NHL? You know, like 5 regular season games is worth 1 playoff game? 10 games isn't a big deal for the punishment, its the fact that he has to miss 10 playoff games that is so harsh. I think if part of your reasoning in reducing the sentence BECAUSE its the playoffs, this could be settled by simply factoring that into all punishments. Anyway, thats my piece.
