Our Baby Boy Is All Grown Up
by James Kawnwald Its a bitter sweet moment in the heart of Denver right now. While watching the draft at DNVR Sports Bar with his family and closest friends the tension was high. Many trades were happening within just the first 2 picks. I asked Sean how he was feeling. "Im really nervous, over the last few days I have been reflecting on where I want to go and had my manager Nancy reach out to Maine. I really liked their organization and what they were doing, I wanted to let them know they were my number one choice." Looking at the board, Maine only had a few picks with their first not happening till the second round. So for Sean he already resigned himself to not getting picked till second round. Wings, burgers, and beers showed up at the table right as second round was about to begin, when out of the blue, Nancy hands Sean her cellphone and says "Anaheim is on the line, they want a quick word". The emotions that crossed Seans face were countless. He said he had only briefly spoken with their GM beforehand and didn't think he had made much of an impression. He grabbed the phone and snuck off to the corner only to come back to the table a minute later. "Anaheim asked if I like California. They said that if im not selected by the time their pick rolls around, Im heading to Anaheim". "California is great Sean!" yelled his mother. "Oh I know and I am happy that im going so high in the draft!" A round of drinks were quickly ordered in celebration. Only 3 more picks before Anaheim makes their pick. The mood had quickly shifted from anticipation to celebration and people had kind of stopped paying attention to what was happening. All of a sudden from across the bar a young woman yelled "SEAN YOU'RE GOING TO MAIN!!!!!!" and the bar erupted in exclamations. "Wait what is happening, Sean said under his breath". We all looked up at the flat screens and there it was. Maine Timber with pick number 18 in the second round - Sean Gatez. He just looked at me in amazement and yelled "IM GOING TO MAIN!!!, IM GOING TO MAIN!!!" Once he had settled down a bit I asked "How do you feel about that, you had thought you were going to Anaheim, and now you are off to the other side of the country." He clapped me on the shoulder and said "I mean i was stoked to go to California, have you seen the women there?! But I am getting an opportunity to go to my number one choice. I was impressed with their office and how they conducted themselves." He then left my side and hugged his family, then everyone in the bar hugged him. They all just lost their son to his new chapter. Their boy is all grown up. Maine definitely has gained a bunch of new fans from across the states. Congratulations Sean we will miss you here in Denver. word count - --2348-- 525 - ran this through Microsoft Word cause 2k words was dubious RE: Colorado Loses Their Son - hhh81 - 09-13-2020 Ope, guess you're not a fan of the hometown team RE: Colorado Loses Their Son - Citizen of Adraa - 09-13-2020 09-13-2020, 03:22 PMhhh81 Wrote: Ope, guess you're not a fan of the hometown team We gotta snipe some back man, let us have him RE: Colorado Loses Their Son - hhh81 - 09-13-2020 09-13-2020, 03:25 PMCitizen of Adraa Wrote:Bruh I stopped drafting for COL, you're on your own now09-13-2020, 03:22 PMhhh81 Wrote: Ope, guess you're not a fan of the hometown team RE: Colorado Loses Their Son - CementHands - 09-13-2020 Very happy to have you joining us RE: Colorado Loses Their Son - ProjectSaint - 09-13-2020 RESO: Knock em out son, even if you are away from home.
