October 1 2023The air was crisp this morning. Opening the large corner window that overlooks Congress Street was almost a challenge. I only have a few more days left to be able to enjoy the morning air while I drink my morning coffee. Soon it will be too cold to open that window. I tried my best to find an apartment in Portland that had a balcony, but it seems that isnt really, “a thing” here in Maine. So I found the next best thing, a huge corner window on a 4th floor that overlooks downtown. Well we just finished up with Preseason games, and much like last season there was a lot to be desired. Losing 5 vets has caused a bit of dysfunction as we are all trying to figure out our new linemates. However, our rookies look promising. They might be young, but they mesh well together on the 4th Line. Anyway, the regular season starts later this week so the coaches decided they want us fresh, no bag skates this week, just working on skills and techniques. Obviously we will still be doing conditioning but nothing to tire us out for our first two games which are a back to back. Anyway, later tonight the team is getting together for a team dinner at Boons Fish House. Much like the one we do after the first practice of the season. Last year they announced Captains and Alternates at this dinner, so I assume thats what is happening again. With Shepherd off to the big show they have one A to announce, and I am curious who its going to go to. I would guess Hobbes or Thomas as they are both good veteran voices for the Timber. All I know is that I am excited for another awesome meal that I dont have to pay for! And I'm excited to watch Foryu pack away an ungodly amount of food. Time to head to the gym for some weight training and cardio.
HOLY SHIT!! I just got bac from team diner at BOOOONS and they gave me the A!!!! IM A LEEDER on this team now?!? i am beyond stokked i hope coaches arent mad tomorrow at practice cuz i got stoopid drunk after they annonced my A. SHOTZ FOR EVERYONE . tim for bed its late and im three sheets to the wind. I love this team

Peeling my eyes open this morning to see I slept through my 3rd alarm. Laying in bed seeing the clouds roll by from the corner window, I'm trying to piece together what happened last night. My journal lays open next to me. I obviously passed out before I could put it way in the nightstand drawer. Today is going to suck. My head is pounding, and my stomach is doing flips right now. I have 3 hours before I need to be at practice… I need to pound some water, take an alka-seltzer, a zinc, and a B-12 but I dont want to even move to go get those things. Though just thinking that makes guilt wash over me, I am now a leader on this team. I NEED TO GET UP, I WILL GET UP.
Getting up and getting my hangover cures took effort but in just an hour 3 cups of coffee, and a 15 minute jog, I feel great. I did boot on jog, but I think that was the nail in the coffin of this hangover. Anyway, for todays docket, I am going to work my ass off at practice to show the coaches that my celebration wont affect my performance.

Sullenly we slowly marched our way back on the bus to take us to the airport after a tight loss to Carolina tonight. The bus is quiet, no one is talking, no one is smiling, not even the coach. Five games into our season we are sitting at 2 and 3. I walked into the Quebec game thinking we were snagging an easy win, but something happened in their offseason. That team is now scary good. Tonight I walked into the game thinking that we would see another easy match against the Kraken like we saw in the preseason, but they really turned their game around too. So far it doesn’t seem that our lines have clicked together quite yet. Hopefully we can turn it around sooner rather than later.

Portland is BUZZING tonight! I just got home from the stadium and am elated. The locker room was an absolute party. Foryu stood on his head for us tonight like an absolute mad lad. We finally BEAT Quebec this season, in over time, at the LAST SECOND. CALVIN HOBBES scored with a sweet pass from O’Duck. Everyone thought we were going to a shootout but never giving up helped us take the W on this one. Much like I said in the previous entry, Quebec is really strong this season. Heading into the game we were sitting at 9 and 6 and QCC was sitting at an impressive 14-1. Well now we are proudly sitting at 10-6 and handing QCC their second loss, though they still got a point out of it. 14-1-1 Is still impressive, but I am just beyond stoked to hand them another L. They seem like they are the new giant of the J, replacing Vancouver. We are second in the East, which sounds great until I look at the standings in the West. Colorado, Kelowna, and Aneheim are all doing well and all are tied at 22 points, while we are just at 20.
Well I am going to pour a celebratory whiskey then head to bed. We cant let off the gas, we cant get cocky with this win, we still have 50 more games to play. Though hearing the crowds outside partying in the street, you’d think we won the championship. I wish I could go party with them.
