Fedor on FM Radio - DollaBill - 02-04-2021  Joining us now on Sports Radio 104.3, The Fan is one of the newest additions to the Colorado Raptors, selected in the 1st round of the Season 58 draft, Fedor Sotakov. Thanks for joining us Fedor. Fedor: Thank you for having me on, guys. So, you’re in Denver now… Fedor: Yes, I arrived at the beginning of this week. And what do you think? How are you liking it? Fedor: I love it here. The mountains are amazing, and the people are friendly. There seems to be a lot of hippies in the streets, but even they seem to be having nice conversations with themselves. Any issues with the altitude so far? Fedor: You can feel it when you get here, and I understand why the U.S.A trains their Olympic athletes in Colorado. I think it will be an advantage when the Colorado Raptors are playing at sea level and have more endurance. Take us back to draft day…you’re on the board, brand new to North American hockey and the Raptors swing a huge trade…move up to 2nd overall and your name is called. Fedor: Yes, it was very exciting. First time I have been part of a draft. Did you expect to be the 2nd overall pick and to go to Colorado? I mean, it was somewhat of a surprise that you went so high. Not that you don’t have 1st round talent…but being new to the U.S… Fedor: For sure…it was a surprise. There’s a lot of talented players in the Season 58 draft. I worked out with a lot of those guys and thought maybe I would be taken in the 2nd round. I didn’t think at all I would hear “Fedor” in the 1st round, much less the 2nd name called. It was…a great honor. And how about playing for Colorado? It’s clear the Raptors wanted you. Did you expect to be drafted by Colorado? Fedor: I talked to a lot of teams in the weeks leading up to the draft; Colorado obviously was one of them. As the days went by, I heard form Colorado more and more. The day before the draft, Sven called me and said that if I was still on the board at pick 7, I would be going to Colorado. At that point, I was thinking, “wow…1st round…”, but still a little unsure that’s how it would play out. Well, you’re a Raptor now and we’re sure glad to have you on our team. Colorado had a great draft; in the opinion of many. What do you think? Have you interacted at all with your new teammates? Fedor: Awesome draft, I think. KEKW Kekkonen was the player I thought would be the 1st overall pick. I do think he’s the best player coming out of the Season 58 class and thrilled to call him a teammate. I think he and I might see time on the same line. Another player I might work with is Angus McFife XVIII…another dynamic forward that is strong on the right side. And with all the wingers, Sven brought in Reidar Gronkjaer in the 2nd round; a big-bodied center. Niall Nails and Jack Nishimori were then picked, another pair of wingers that rounded out a very exciting draft class. Exciting indeed. So, you’re a Colorado Raptor…just signed a $5 million deal…what comes next for Fedor Sotakov? Fedor: Next up is Season 58. We are having a great training camp right now in Denver, all the guys are getting to know each other, and this team already feels special. Are the Raptors going to win some games this season? Fedor: We’re going to win many games, I think. Well Fedor, we welcome you to mountains, wish you and the Raptors the best of luck this season, and hope to do this again with you soon.
