Maine Timber finished the preseason without facing any loss!
We tried some new stuff in the preseason and were pretty happy with it.
The preseason was perfect to get to know your new teammates in a "real" scenario, it's always something different to play a real match compared to just doing training.

After the preseason my GMs talked to me about my performance in the preseason games and how we can improve this further. We also talked about how to utilise my abilities best.
We came to the conclusion that I would be a perfect fit as a winger in the 2nd line.

As someone who is specialist in being a winger and not really wanting to play defense I am super happy about that plan and I will try my best to fulfill my role there.
My GMs told me not to reveal too much of our strageties so I'm afraid thats all I can say so far.

Though I only had the opportunity to play in three games this preseason, I really got a hold of our team's Raptors dynamic. I was even able to score the only victory for the raptors, in the preseason.

As for the upcoming season, I know I will have limited opportunities, as the backup goal keeper. But, when I am in, I have a plan. I want to make sure my defenseman are willing to sacrifice the body to help me stop more shots and to help improve my confidence, as I get used to this new level of competition.

There is an exception though. If my defenseman can not get in the way, I want them to clear other offensive players out of the area. That way, I have a nice, clean view of the incoming puck. That would really make my job a lot easier.

I want to be a little aggressive and help my team by retrieving cleared pucks on power plays to really keep the opposing team on their heels. The longer I can keep my team in their zone, the better.

Finally, I want to keep working on my positioning so that when I can't see what is coming, I still have the best chance to make the save. And maybe, a shove here and there for those pesky screeners. The refs don't have to see everything. I want to make opposing teams hate seeing me in net.

Best in the league in what I do, what ever I do.

I think Gonzo Gobbledygook can shine on the second powerplay unit when the first line is not on their game that night. Our first unit's best PP plays are the slap-pass to a winger to tip-in from the slot, or getting the puck to the net-front guy next to the net and spinning in front of the net while others crash it. When they aren't getting either of those two options, rather than just passing the puck around until and deciding to take a bad perimeter shot that probably gets blocked... they can throw me out on the ice. With my skating ability and elite shot we have another chance at converting before our man advantage is killed. We can also make a conscious attempt to get one-timers from the faceoff dots. They're harder for both defensemen and goalies to block because they have to move quickly to try to get into the lane. I've been working on my one-timer all off-season.

I think my role will start very different than it will end. We will start with my brother and I and likely Elvis being a sheltered scoring line. However I expect as time goes on we will be given more defensive responsibilities.

Additionally I'm not expecting much power play time to start. However I've been working on my offence so I truly believe that I will be on a power play line by the end of the season. That is a goal of mine. I hope to also be considered defensively that by the end of the season I can be on a penalty kill as well. I definitely won't start there but if I work hard enough I think I can be a second or third line center who participates and adds value on both of the special teams for Vancouver. That is my dream and I will work hard to make it a reality.

I am very excited for this upcoming season. Marcel Beck has the privilege to be one of St. Louis' go-to defenders as a rookie. Outside St. Louis' top two of Gucci and Bouchard, Scarecrow D is pretty young. Beck is currently on the 2nd pair while also playing a big chunk of minutes on the PK and on one of the PP units. He actually led all St. Louis players in average ice time in preseason, a distinction that makes me feel so honored. Smile

Marcel Beck is a two-way defender focusing mostly on the back end. Looking at preseason stats (which I know don't mean too much), he was let loose and kinda went crazy - 21 hits and 12 blocked shots. He also tallied 4 points in 7 games, showing that even with lacking offensive ratings, Beck can be a difference maker. I expect St. Louis management to harness his transition game to create a fast-paced game.

Pretty much I see Beck's role and playstyle as this: if an opposing player comes into the D zone, he will find any way to plaster them to the boards, take the puck, and transition it back out again.

I'm super pumped to see how the regular season turns out.

The Detroit Falcons play an aggressive style game that works best when they can out skate their opponents.  Rookie Ty Murphy meshes well with this style, as a natural born speedy playmaker.  His line mates do not rely on him to score, but they know that he will always be positioned to feed them the puck on the rush for a high quality shot.  Defensively speaking, the speed at which Murphy and his line play at is equally as important.  Playing a tight point system in the defensive zone, the Falcons players cannot allow their opponents to out skate them.  While the young Ty Murphy may be too green to get any ice time during power plays or penalty kills, he will be relied on to outplay other team’s depth in bottom six minutes.  A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and through his speedy playmaking yet defensively responsible style of play, Murphy is ensuring that he is not the weakest link of the team.

I think that my line will be the line that could score a lot of points. I feel that this year will be our year it is my second year and I feel like this is the reason I was here to help and mentor the new rookies that come in now. I want to help the future this line will be the line that will be underestimated. I think that the line we do have me on is awesome and getting better every single day will help make it a purpose to be where I want to in life. I feel as if this line is the hard working line that will do anything to get as many points as we can as we are moving throughout the season. I feel I've been underestimated a lot as we go on but we can show you how impressive we can be as we want to contend as much as possible and to make the haters regret playing us and to make caution as we can be a dangerous force to be reckoned with.

Lev was new to the SMJHL and brought in a strong presence to his preseason games. Lev managed to get his first goal and multiple assists. He sat down to talk to the leadership about his potential strategies moving forward and came up with some promising plans. First, we've decided to make Lev an offensive forward. Hes always had a knack for speed and puckhandling and can be dangerous on a breakaway. Makrus is shown to be great on a line with Lev and they compliment each other well. With their passing capabilities, these two can cause a fierce and intimidating line.

That all being said, the lines are still being decided and played with. Lev is excited for the opportunity to hopefully get on a line with all his teammates at some point throughout the season. Lev got a taste for fame in his preseason debut with the Whalers and hes excited to really hone his skills and see where the season takes him.

With my defensive partner being THE Grandmaster Funk, I feel comfortable knowing that if I pinch on a play, he will be back to cover for me if I bite too hard. That said I dont want to leave him out to dry, so Im going to try to not bite too hard and get dangled out. I feel like we are going to try our best to keep up pressure on the cycle. This could prove to be a good strat with my buddy Jeans on the second line. He loves getting those garbage goals so if we can cycle around and just get shots on net from the point, he should be able to do his thing. Otherwise Im just gonna listen to what my coach tells me to do and try my best to not royally fuck up and put us in a bad spot. thats about it.

The Maine Timbers move into the regular season with a struggle of a first day taking on closely fought win and loss from NL, and a rough loss versus the Citadels. Demitra will be playing in a pairing with Lucas Kaiser, a crease-clearing d-man. Demitra will hope to improve his passing and offensive read abilities to hopefully help the pair become a larger offensive threat throughout the season. Demitra had 5 points in the pre-season, but now that the regular season has started, the rookie looks a bit uncomfortable on the North American Ice, and will also need to improve his defensive ratings to become an all around threat on the ice and progress to a larger role. He is getting some small time in special teams which is helping him develop his skills. Ideally Demitra will become a solid two way dman who can become a true threat on both ends. It would be a nice surprise if he got a lot of points and was close to leading rookie defensemen in points, however will Demitra have the drive to get there? Only time will tell...
