Hey everyone! Very exciting day today as I get to announce the branding of one of the expansion teams that’s going to be joining the SHL next season. Expansion has been something I’ve admired for a very long time and I’ve always wanted to have the chance to try it out, and here we are.

In terms of locating a team, I was of the same mindset as a lot of people in the league. Not having a team in the city of Montreal, which is probably the city most synonymous with the sport of hockey in the entire world, was crazy to me and I think everyone agreed that it was time they got some representation in the SHL. I’m not from Montreal, and I’ve only been there once in my life, but I’ve always found it to be a really cool place with a very unique identity, and that’s something I wanted to reflect in the team I brought to the city. I did a lot of research into the history of the city and the region it’s in, and decided to try and come up with a brand that ties a lot of things together.

It was important to me to try and make everything as unique as I could; a totally different colour scheme to any other in use in the league, branding that wasn’t something totally generic and had a connection to the city that would host my team, and something that felt fresh in terms of what’s already out there in the SHL and other sim leagues in terms of concept.

So without further ado, here it is; one of the SHL’s two newest teams......























THE MONTREAL PATRIOTES












The name is inspired by the history of Montreal as a city, the tradition of the Patriote movement in Quebec, including to this day the celebration of the annual National Patriots day, and the proud sense of loyalty to the city that its inhabitants have.

I wanted to create a brand that celebrates the history of Montreal as a city and its history in the SHL (the old Militia colors were definitely a bit of an inspiration), and I hope that I’ve done justice to all of those things!
