(GRADED) Deep Dive 1 - Luc Blouin trade - Keygan - 07-16-2021

In the early mornings of July 2nd, the Vancouver Whalers made a large move to shore up the defensive core of their now self-proclaimed contending window. Many analysts took to the air to give their opinions on whether or not the trade was one the Whalers needed to make to be competitive, considering it is well known that Blouin is headed to the Barracuda following this season. A player considered to be an elite prospect by many, and high-quality juniors player by all Luc Blouin looks to take what made him a top-ranking juniors defensemen for Detroit with him on the flight to Vancouver to establish a core of defensemen to counteract the high powered offense of the Juniors.

When questioned about the acquistion of Luc Blouin, short-time manager Dextaria stated the following:

"We felt our last weakness of the team was our sixth defensemen, and the ability to add someone of Luc's calibre allows us to slot down every other defensemen to give the rookies slightly better matchups, we truly believe Luc is a generational defensemen and the ability to add him to a part of our team that could have debatably been a strength already is incredible value. We have so many young players we felt as though it was a calculated risk to trade future assets to allow us a more competitive window today and for the rest of this season."

When scouts were asked what they had to say about the long time Detroit defensemen they could not stop oogling the all-around talent of Blouin, citing the fact that it isn't common to see such a threat on both ends of the ice this earlier in someones career, speaking highly to the fact that his abilities many of which grade at future 18's on a 1 - 20 scale.

The moves reasoning was clear to most, the Vancouver Whalers feared that Conner Tanner would not be able to hold his weight on the blue line, and felt that the need to build a safety net around was not only important but essential. Conner Tanner has been a liability for the most part, and acquiring Luc Blouin will lessen the negative impact he has on the game on a day to day basis.

Short and to the point is saying that the acquisition of a steady handed defensemen was crucial for any chance of a Vancouver Whalers championship this coming season without the ability to lower the expectations of the rookie defensemen of the team, half of the total defensemen on the entire team. All and all I believe that a move such as this was quite literally essential and without it the Whalers would have just been living life to be eliminated by a greater team such as the New Foundland Berserkers.
