Aftermath of a Wedding - Aleris - 01-10-2022
Conner awoke with his head pounding, back aching, and the smell of smoke and…the ocean? That can’t be right. Tornio isn’t near the ocean. Conner’s eyes snapped open. Lias lay softly besides him, the morning light playing shadows with the dimples of his cheeks. The ocean scent was Lias. Conner inhaled. It reminded him of Swansea. Home.
But the smoke?? Conner jolted up! It was coming from the golf cart about 10 yards away, upside down and smoldering. Conner’s head pounded. What happened last night? Flashes came back. He was in Tornio, a golf course on the border between Sweden and Finland. The The Gunnurt Wedding. He was dancing with Lias. It’s fuzzy from there. Chasing shots of vodka with GFuel. A golf cart. Sand. Conner hated sand. It gets everywhere. Laughter. Lias saying “I think we’ll win it all!”
Then… Did I KISS Lias???
Conner looked over, Lias was still asleep. He looked peaceful, like the morning after a snowfall. His temples flared. Lias had become his best friend over the last season. Like Jimmy had with Conner, Conner had taken Lias under his wing. Showed him the ropes of Las Vegas. The good casinos. The best buffets. They spent hours in the locker room discussing strategy, watching film, or even just using the jacuzzi. But this…was new… Something growled inside Conner, something deep. Conner threw up into the sand trap. Vodka and GFuel staining the pristine grains. Conner heard Lias “Dricka för mycket kompis?” There Lias stood with his beaming smile. Conner smiled back. They would win it all this year, that he was certain.
