Bas traded to Edmonton Presser - Sopath - 06-29-2022

I'd like to start by saying that I'm really thankful for the chance that @Ace gave me in Winnipeg. I was really excited to be a part of what was being built there but for one reason or another I was really feeling burnt out by the time I got there and it just never got going. That being said I'm really excited for this new opportunity in Edmonton. My head cannon for Bas has always been that he grew up an Edmonton fan in Ireland in the Late 40's and Early 50's. That would work because that was around the time Edmonton won their last championship too. In a way this is a childhood dream come true.

I've always regarded Edmonton as one of the great historic franchises of the SHL. To me I feel like Edmonton is one of those places that a lot of the all time greats played at and that being a Blizzard elevates your legacy. Edmonton and Calgary to me are like the Yankees and Red Sox. Or Lakers and Celtics. Something like that. So to be able to finally be a member of a franchise like this is really cool. I'll also be taking my first management position and I'm looking forward to the challenges that are to come from that. With that, shoot away.

As someone who until recently was on the outside looking in at all of the team's moves, what's your perspective on Edmonton's future, and what would you say to a prospective free agent or prospect looking at the Blizzard as a potential home?

Well tbh I've not been fully immersed in the whole league's moves but Edmonton has been thankfully accepting of their rebuilding phase. I think that by S57 the writing was on the wall for Edmonton and it's taken nearly 10 seasons to get this team in a new progressive place again and I find that really exciting. It's nice to see Edmonton really just going all in on the future. I've been part of teams before that couldn't commit to the rebuild and gave up youthful assets to acquire vets and eventually that just implodes.

To a potential free agent, I'd say that if your goal is to just have a place to hang out in your twilight years of your career Edmonton is a great place for that because it's a very youthful team right now and it's a historic team that looks great on a resume. To a player in their prime, I'd say that if you really love SHL history Edmonton is a great place to be.

To a prospect, I'd like to say that you have the potential to be part of something that hasn't been in 20 seasons. You have the chance to be part of the next Edmonton dynasty. We're talking about a team with multiple eras of greatness that stretch back almost 70 seasons now. This is the place to be if you want your player to have a long legacy.

I fully anticipate Bas to score probably 55-65 points next season. Bas just has one of those builds that I think is really strong at scoring and so I think they will continue to be highly productive even on a team with less experience. That being said, the days of Bas challenging for an 80 point season is over. Just hoping to score 30 goals again.

What will be your main responsibilities and goals while in your new management position?

What are your thoughts on the league upgrading its sim engine to FHM 8? Do you think it will have a positive impact on parity and player agency as many hope it will?

Do you have any plans on shifting your playstyle as you get older, or are you staying put as a super-sniper 'til the very end?
