S67 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - Jayba1t - 10-16-2022 The S67 SMJHL Playoffs have begun, and it is time for the first ever Postseason Bonanza! Wait! What's this? Here's how PB will work: there are several tasks, each of which is worth varying amounts of TPE for putting in a little effort, for a maximum of 16 possible TPE total. You can complete them in any order and do as few or as many as you would like (up to 16 TPE of course). For those recreates who are familiar with CW in the past, there have been changes made to CW that I'll quickly recap. Word Count minimums have been removed We will still have an assortment of prompts available for you all, however there will not be a 50 word/100 word/150 word minimum anymore on tasks. Instead, we will have... A Word Count to TPE Scale For every 50 words you write about a prompt, you will earn 1 TPE. That scales on, so 100 words for 2 TPE, 150 words for 3 TPE, etc. For some reason if you wanted to 800 words about one prompt, that would be 16 TPE right then and there. The graphics TPE scale has remained the same. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you can, please after every prompt you write about add a Word Count (ie. 159 words). This will greatly help the PT Team! ONLY S67 SMJHL ROOKIES (S68 SHL DRAFTEES) CAN EARN TPE FOR CW TASKS. If you signed after the trade deadline and are going into the S68 SMJHL Draft, that's not you. You may claim affiliation from an (one, 1) ISFL, PBE or SSL PT this season for a max of 3 TPE. For those who have a CW pass that will apply for Postseason Bonanza. With 8 S65 players graduating to the SHL, St. Louis will have a large number of shoes to fill in the next season. Scarecrow mainstays of the past few seasons such as wingers Dan Baltisberger and Ben Waters Jr., along with blueliner Wide Peepo Happy 3 Koivu will be moving on. Several recent “rental” acquisitions will also be playing in the SHL next season, including C Aleksi Kettu and RW Matsmith Soderberg-Tremblay. In total, St. Louis will be without 4 of their top 6 forwards next season, so there will be a lot of roster spots to fill. Even at goalie, while starter Anthony Dionne has another season of eligibility left, St. Louis could use some help as they still have no clear goalie of the future for S69. There's a good chance St. Louis will be in a bit of a rebuild next season and may be sellers for the next season as they attempt to bring in some younger players and retool for the future. (167 words) 12. With 12 goals and 35 points in his rookie campaign, C Jarrod Lakemore's stat totals don't stand out, especially against the backdrop of a very strong rookie class that includes multiple 50+ point players. Coming into the season, scouts described Lakemore as a responsible defensive center with a somewhat limited offensive skillset. After his rookie campaign, Lakemore's prognosis hasn't changed too much from that. The advanced stats agree that Lakemore has been better defensively than offensively. Lakemore accumulated just under 100 hits on the season while also leading all forwards on the Crows in blocked shots. He's also been above average in the faceoff circle and came up with a respectable 46 takeaways. His plus/minus of -5 isn't particularly impressive, but is roughly in-line with his fellow forwards not named Ben Waters Jr. His offensive numbers aren't great, and while some can be explained by being on a third line, plenty of his fellow rookies have put up better numbers with similar ice time. While his 35 points barely cracked 0.5 PPG, all but 1 of them came at even strength as he saw limited time on the Power Play. He also has shown some improvement on the offensive end, particularly in his goal scoring ability. Early reports on Lakemore indicated his shot was one of his weaknesses and early on his abysmal shooting percentage seemed to confirm this. A double digit goal total seemed like a pipe dream, but after some improvement over the course of the season, Lakemore finished with a respectable 12 goals on 11.8% shooting, not particularly impressive but passable. Finally, Lakemore came into the SMJHL with a reputation for being a physical player who sometimes took his aggressiveness too far. Potential suitors however will be cautiously optimistic after Lakemore amassed just 16 PIM over the course of his rookie season. Of course, those who may have been considering him in something of an enforcer role will be disappointed after Lakemore participated in just one fight all season—in a preseason game nonetheless. Overall, Lakemore will not garner the attention that some of his classmates with rather gaudy point totals might. A center with a strong defensive game and a physical presence, Lakemore's mediocre offensive skills mean he will likely be a mid round draft pick looking for a defensively responsible center to anchor a second or third line in the future. For him to project higher than that, it would require a marked improvement on the offensive side of the ice. (415 words) 18. My goal for Jarrod Lakemore is to create a player with a build that I am interested in. Right now I am focused on the role of “Agitator”. Ideally this would be in the mold of a Brad Marchand, but I'd settle for just being Sean Avery. A guy that draws the ire of every other fanbase, yet secretly every opposing fan knows they would love to have one guy like that on their team. A guy that throws the other team off their game and creates a mental edge for his side. I also like the idea, though I suspect many GMs do not, of creating a build that is a bit imbalanced, a player with real strengths and weaknesses. I am not a fan of “meta” builds where people just blindly throw points into attributes that everyone agrees has the highest impact and I am not a huge fan of a system where all attributes are treated the same and anyone can just choose to make their player as good a shooter as an Ovechkin without any real tradeoff. It has been conveyed to me, for example, that all aggressiveness does it make you take more penalties and there is no point in raising this attribute. Well, in real life, some players ARE more likely to take penalties than others, and it kills my immersion if everyone is equally as saintly as each other and never take penalties. Also, some people are better than others at fighting, it's just a fact of life. So I'm going to make my build the way I want to, knowing it won't be the most “efficient” or “best use of my TPE” or whatever, but it's what is going to bring me happiness, so GMs beware! (294 words) RE: S67 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - Frenchie - 10-17-2022 SSL Affiliation (3 TPE) Prompt #2 With a noticably upsetting year as far as standings go, the Carolina Kraken know that they have their work cut out for them to be able to once again compete at the highest level and be respected for the contenders they can aspire to be, such as they were in the late 50's and early 60's. That being said, General Manager Sve7en, most notably known for his incredible tenure at the healm of the southeast american franchise, has pieced together a strong plan a few seasons back and the team bought in. Despite it being uncomfortable of a position to be in, one of two teams eliminated from 4 star cup contention, players in the Carolina locker room knew that this year was a building year, an opportunity to pave more of the road to glory, an opportunity to build chemistry, unity, passion and determination so that in the seasons to come, they can be a force inthe Simulation Major Junior Hockey League (SMJHL) once more. At the heart of this plan was building through the draft and banking on youth. As such, it is to note that the mighty fish creatures will only suffer the loss of two of their pieces, both defensemen, in Dork Dipplet and Pass Forfeit, both moving onto greener pastures and joining their respective Simulation Hockey League teams (SHL). As such, there is a gap to fill in defense so that the Kraken may be able to properly support their thriving offense led by anchors such as Julian Eaglesong and team captain Adam Prpich down the middle as well as scoring phenoms Rush Justice and Raiya Rabinov down the wings. They have all been great contributors to this young Kraken squad, despite the hardships they needed to face. Of note, rookies Derek Martin, Liam Logger and Marton Diehm have all shown promise in their first season in the J and look to build on this and take a step forward to up their level and provide at a more constant and dominant pace to enable a championship window down the line. The biggest question mark comes between the pipes. Although he was hung out to dry at a few occasions, starting goaltender Otter Von Bismarck will need to find new ways to support his team, often conceding a goal at the wrong time and in questionable fashion despite having stood on his head for the rest of the game. Going into his third season, the Schönhause, Germany native is looking to become a Cedric Robinson favorite as the league's best goalie, and truth be told will most likely need to do so if the Kraken want to stand a chance in this upcoming season considering the current lack of defensive support for the netminder. He looks poised to do so and with solid performances in the paint, the Kraken could really stand a solid chance of competing for the highest honors. We therefore turn to the draft and patiently await the next moves of the Carolina Kraken. They will be crucial in the franchise's future hopes of renewed glory and all-time fame. With his previous track record though, we are truly confident in Sve7en's ability to once more bring this franchise to the next level. (566 words = 11 TPE) Prompt #3 With clear intentions in place for the Carolina Kraken, we can't avoid the fact that luck inevitably plays a large part in how a season goes. Will the players stay healthy? How will the other franchises do? Will pucks bounce our way? A lot is left out of the teams control. What they can control though is how they avoid that luck, or at the very least limit it to a bare minimum and put all of the chances in their court. In order to have a fighting chance against giants of the game, the Carolina Kraken have a fallback play, called Plan K=W, where they will channel the power of ocean lord Cthulu who must claim their souls in exchange for unsurmountable power and competitive edge. What must be done, shall be done. (134 words = 2 TPE) RE: S67 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - KaleSalad - 10-17-2022 GM CW pass RE: S67 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - bluesfan55 - 10-17-2022 12. On the Radar Write a pre-draft scout report on your player from the perspective of a journalist covering the prospects of the S68 SHL draft class. What do possible SHL suitors have to be excited (or perhaps wary?) about when it comes to potentially drafting your player? I went to Anchorage intending to watch the Armada's first round pick in the previous SMJHL Draft, Davos Otasrob, and while I was pleasantly surprised by his physicality, he wasn't the S68 prospect who I left thinking, "This kid's going in the first round.". That was Swiss center Sebastien Regazzoni, who despite playing on Anchorage's third line, was on an offensive mission. The kid ended up finishing his rookie year in the J with 25 goals and 46 points, good enough to be tied for sixth for points on his own team and second in goals to star winger Edward Elric, who had 28. Regazzoni is a natural center who can also play on the wing, and might be shifted there permanently for reasons I'll talk about later, but boy does the kid have an offensive skill set. His shot was one of the most efficient in the league this year as he shot at a surprisingly good 16.9% clip. Regazzoni, when I asked if he could keep that up in the playoffs and the next season, replied with a confident "Of course I can. I'm brilliant.". That aptly brings me to another one of Regazzoni's strengths (and also weaknesses): the kid's undying confidence. He might look like the bastard son of Jeremy Clarkson, but he has the swagger and braggadocio to back it up. He'll talk shit after plays, he'll try to get into opponent's heads, and he's willing to be an annoying little pest if it works for the team. The way he sees it, "If I can use my skill and proficiency in being a cocky little prick to positively affect the team in any manner, I'll do it. We're all here to win the Four Star Cup, not sit around like a bunch of little kids." However, this can have a bad side. While Regazzoni is a surprisingly disciplined player, having only accrued six penalty minutes across the SMJHL regular season, his cockiness and attitude has seen him garner a bit of a reputation as a prima donna. "I'm a third liner. I'm confident because that's just who I am. I'm not throwing my toys out the pram because I'm playing third line minutes, I'm happy in Anchorage and will play wherever if they need me to. Hell, I'd be fine if they threw me on defense as long as I got to play the game I love with the team I've always wanted to play for." Going back to his offensive capabilities, besides his goalscoring, the kid has an advanced offensive toolkit that he uses to his advantage. He's a slick passer who can find his teammates easily, his stickhandling has been a major strength, and it helps that he has a good hockey brain on the offensive side of the ice. He can read the game on that side quite well, screening when he needs to. He's also become quite adept at finding the right spot to be in for a shot, which leads me to another big strength of his - the kid's got wheels. And not just any wheels. In an Anchorage poll, his teammates voted him the fastest skater on the team as a true rookie. When asked why he was so fast, Regazzoni had a simple answer. "I used to race in Swiss Formula Four. When I transitioned to hockey, I didn't want to be some joe schmoe who spent his time lethargically moving around the ice. I wanted to be in the thick of the action like I was when I was racing back home. So I resolved to become an elite skater, someone who could breeze past anyone within a moment's notice and grow into a SHL-level skater by the time I was a second-year player in the juniors. And I think I'm close to hitting that goal.". However, what he has in offensive prowess he lacks in defensive skill. It was noted earlier in a previous mPT that Regazzoni had one of the lowest Defensive Game Ratings in the entire league. The main reason why he was shifted to the wing is while he's a decent faceoff man (having won 54% of his draws), he doesn't have the defensive capabilities to back that up. He throws hits and is willing to get physical, but he gives the puck away way more than he takes it away from others, he can't really stick check, and his defensive positioning is all out of shape. So, while he lacks defensive skill, is that something he can work on? Of course, and he's indicated a willingness to do so. But his offensive skill makes up for it, and out of all of Anchorage's rookies, he's the one who I can see going in the top ten. The kid's got a bright future ahead of him, and I think he'll be a future star. 811 words, 16 tpe RE: S67 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - Rangerjase - 10-17-2022 CW Pass - HO Member RE: S67 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - jlutz14 - 10-17-2022 3 TPE - PBE Affiliate PT Task 2 Looking at the start of next season, the Kelowna Knights still have multiple holes to fill as they look to make the jump from rebuilder to contender with a ton of early picks in the S68 SMJHL entry draft. Looking at the team's depth chart, the Knights are actually very, very strong on the wings. With veterans Jacques Hammer, Munko Aitmukhambetov, and Sash Sharnaz to lead rookies Adam Liebold, James Lutz, and Ekaterina Valieva, the Knights should be set there for the next few seasons. Valieva and Aitmukhambetov have been playing out of position at center this season, but it would serve the team well to draft a center or two in the upcoming draft, particularly in the first or second rounds. A natural playmaking center could complement Hammer on the first line along with either Liebold or Lutz to form a very strong first line. This would also allow one of Valieva or Aitmukhambetov to shift to wing on the second line and form a very dominant top 6. With Sharnaz, a retained winger, and another drafted center on the third line, the Knights could be set up front. On D, the Knights are established on the right side, but weak on the left side. Virrok, Brandt, and Aleman represent a loaded right side. However, Potential Spam remains one of the few strong options on the left side along with Jon Bell. The D pairs have been flipped to put the top talent in the top four, but Bell remains best suited for the third pair. Drafting another defenseman or two could greatly benefit Kelowna on the back end and really support the developing goalies in net. Speaking of the goaltender position, the Knights have rolled with two rookies this season in Sea Jebus and Sjoforsvaret. The Knights should still look to add another goalie if possible in the upcoming draft, as Jebus and Sjoforsvaret will take some time to develop into strong forces in net. It would also serve the team well to find another active option for the backup role who potentially could be groomed into a starter in the long run. 355 words - 7 TPE Task 5 Most likely to impersonate Thor - Jacques Hammer Largely stemming from his name and flashy character, Jacques is the perfect choice to take on the character of the Avenger from Asgard. Hammer is a primetime goal scorer who likes to bury the biscuit, similar to how Thor loves to bring the heat and take the lead in things. Most likely to fail a drug test - Ekaterina Valieva This one is obvious, right? I haven't just heard the rumors, I've seen them. There's no way that Valieva would be so strong without taking the juice. I mean, I hardly ever see her in the weight room, yet she seems to build muscle mass so easily. Word on the street is that she keeps a syringe and a few bottles in her locker, but you didn't hear that from me... Most likely to be a television star - Elmo Oliver Named after a popular character from Sesame Street who bears his name, Elmo Oliver would fit in perfectly as a stand-in on the show. Known for his talent in acting, Elmo would be great at dressing up as Elmo and playing the role perfectly. Most likely to join the WWE - Sjoforsvaret Known as the biggest man on campus, the 6 foot 11, 300 pound goalie would easily be able to take his talents to the WWE after his career playing hockey. The goalie would easily be a top talent in the organization, fitting into the mold previously held by Andre the Giant. Additionally, Sjoforsvaret also seems to be inspired by Brock Lesnar. Most likely to leave the SMJHL to study Biology - Mito Chondria Mito Chondria is the powerhouse of the Kelowna Knights. Wait, I think I'm messing up my references there. Anyways, it seems that Mito has a vested interest in studying cells and biology, and would be very good at it. It would be a solid post-career job. 315 words - 6 TPE RE: S67 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - downer - 10-18-2022 1. Fan Appreciation Day: 112 Words - 2 TPE 2. Fan Appreciation Day The Grizzlies have an annual Teddy Bear Toss game that they host, where guests who bring a Teddy Bear to toss onto the ice during the event (which are then donated to Children’s Hospitals throughout Montana). The fans entering the stadium that have a Teddy Bear for the toss event are given ticket that they can either use for a free drink from one of the concessions stands or a commemorative Teddy Bear Toss t-shirt. A surprising amount of fans go for the t-shirt, and it’s not surprising at all to see local bars around the area after the big game crowded with fans sporting their new Grizzlies Teddy Bear Toss t-shirt! 112 Words – 2 TPE 2. Looking Towards the Future One of the most important things to the Grizzlies during the offseason will be to really work on their defensive play and puck possession. Throughout the season, the Grizzlies allowed far too many shots on goal from opposing teams, with goaltender Alvin Towne facing the most shots of any Goalie in the league by a wide margin. This is going to land mostly on the new core of Defensemen on the team; Chris Valentine, Joshua Weber and Benjamin Devito. Secondary to that, and something that comes with better puck possession, is creating more scoring chances; the Grizzlies were second to last in goals for (last being a two way-tie between Newfoundland and Kelowna). While it might sound obvious that a team should focus on scoring more, and letting less goals in, it’s also pretty apparent that the Grizzlies need to bring it back to the basics if they want to start performing to their potential. 155 Words – 3 TPE 15. R&R Chris is going to spending most of his off-season back home in Traverse City, Michigan. He’s going to be out on the lake fishing, out on his jet ski, or just spending time with his family around the campfire. But that time is absolutely going to be interrupted with consistent training and focus on improving his game, so that he can come back next season even better. 67 Words – 1 TPE 16. Charity Drive Charity is an important thing to Chris, and he makes sure he drives his teammates to spend time giving back to the Great Falls community. Beyond supporting local charities through Meet & Greets or other guest appearances, one of Chris’s favorite events was a charity dinner auction held to benefit the Children’s Hospital in Great Falls. Chris vowed to match the winning bid, but only of the dinner itself were held at the Children’s Hospital during which they would provide dinner to all of the families that were in the hospital that evening to be with their children. It was a very meaningful event for Chris, and one he plans on doing again every year. 115 Words – 2 TPE 18. Goals For my player, my initial goals are to just be a consistent contributor from the blue line. I want to continue to focus on defensive play, and truly become one of the strongest defensive defensemen in the league. That will absolutely come with some sacrifice when it comes to points, but it will pay off when we have less shots on goal, less goals against, and better puck possession that leads to more wins. I think Chris will really shine in the playoffs, when teams are being a bit more aggressive, and he’ll be able to really help break down their game and frustrate them to the point of creating turnovers or odd-man rushes. For the long term, I’d love to continue to grow and evolve Chris and potentially exceed the 2000 TPE threshold that seems to be the hallmark of some of the best players in the SHL. Beyond that, I’d love to win some individual hardware for Chris, and of course win a cup or two along the way! Personal goals for the site: Continue to chip away at work for the Update Platform so that it can hopefully see the light of day before I retire. Hopefully what we create is something that everyone that uses the site enjoys and makes everyone who contributes to the site’s life a little easier by automating some of those processes, but also making it WAY easier to retain new players and keep them interested in SHL for a longer amount of time. 252 Words – 5 TPE RE: S67 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - SimmiZ - 10-18-2022 Task 7: 302 words Task 11: 541 words Total: 843 words S67 Milestones (but already have 16 TPE worth of words) Task 7 : 4 star showdown A lot of people will always give you the same 3 teams when they talk about a contender for the championship, these teams are Regina, Quebec, and of course, Nevada. Yes the stats and standing tend to go in their favors, but I want to bring one more team in this debate. I think the Scarecrows got what it take to bring the 4 stars cup to St-Louis. Yes im biased because its my player team, but I really think that they can do it. They have made so very big transactions during the offseason, and the season, to bring some capped players, and now because of that, they have one the best offense in the SMJHL. First player we got was Matsmith Söderberg-Tremblay (16g, 38a), after that we traded for Rikkert Biemans (36g, 32a), and finally, we got from Carolina Aleski Kettu (22g, 29a). This level of offense is so stupid, we almost got 3 first line, and it help when you have some trouble in defense, or if a goalie have a rough night, we've seen it in the current playoff against Anchorage, St-louis let in 3 goals in 1st period, no problem the offense scores 5 goals in second. St-Louis has also some hard working GM, their team had some up and down during the season, but they have never leave the foot off the gas pedal, an finally they found some tactics that are working well right now. I hope we will have the chance to fight against Regina who has the best defense right now, to see this attack in action, but first we need to sink the armada. So this is why I think St-Louis will win the cup, because their onslaught of shots, and their incredible offensive capabilities. 302 words Task 11: a 6 stars show Here is my view on a team that nobody could stop, if they were to be part of the same team. The 3 forwards would be; Bnana Nwaffles, Nibbles the Squirrel, and Din Djarin. My 2 defensemen of choice would be; Emil Egli, and Alexander Minaj. For my goalie, I had an hard time to decide, but finaly my pick ended up with Alexis Texas. Ill explain my choices further in the next paragraph. C: Bnana Nwaffles DET Probably the easiest choice of them all, even if we had other great choice like Beaulieu or Mando Lorian, Nwaffles in is a class of his own. He have the most points this season, and also is the best goal scorer. Its still better when you know that he is in a team that was not recognized has a superpower at the start of the season, I think Detroit wouldnt be in the top 5 of the standing without him. LW: Nibbles the Squirrel MET In a superstar team, we cant go with the best sniper without the best playmaker. This is mainly why I have put Squirrel on my team. This season, he got the most assists with a +/- of +30. He's one of the big reason why Maine has "skyrocketed" to third place in S67. A duo with him and Bnana Waffles would be unstopable. RW: Din Djarin NBB On the offense, we have our sniper and our playmaker, Din Djarin would take the role of our powerforward. In our dream 6, we need a guy that will battle and challenge other defenseman on the ramp, and Djarin is perfect for this task. This season he got an amazing 210 hits, and he's should not be shy of his offensive skill too, this season, he got 24 goals and 54 assists in 66 games played. LD: Emil Egli MET Another easy choice, Egli has been the best defenseman of the s67, he can score, hit, block shot, and he's pretty good on both side of the ice. His strongest asset, is his passing abilities, he can see everyone everywhere, Emil Egli is the best definition of a blue line general in ths SMJHL. RD: Alexander Minaj QCC Minaj is at his first year in the SMJHL, but he already play like a veteran. He was the best defenseman of his team this season, with 51 points (15g, 36a) in 66 games, with a differential of +17. Minaj would be the perfect addition toi Emil Egli, imagine these 2 on a powerplay, you better be ready. G: Alexis Texas REG For the goalie, I decided to chose only one that has played at least 40 games durint the seaon, and after I choose Alexis Texas. Some would argue that Regina has the best defense in the league right now, and a big part of this succes is due to Alexis Texas. Like Minaj, he is a rookie, but even still h is dominant in front of his net. His stat last year, 27-14-5 with a GAA of 2,56, and .901 efficacity. Texas is the perfect la piece of our star team. With a team like that, is almost impossible to lose. 541 words RE: S67 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - teztify - 10-19-2022 +2 TPE (Milestones: https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?pid=3277189&highlight=teztify#pid3277189) Prompt #2 - Looking Towards the Future - 159 words, 3 TPE The Newfoundland Berserkers have been going through a transformational period over the past number of seasons, which has meant the team has had many holes to fill and many "needs" over the past few off-seasons. This time around, however, it feels a bit different. With a young, talented team with many returning players, it feels like this year the biggest need is internally - it is that the young players already on the team continue to develop and show up to training camp ready to push for the playoffs. While the team has a big opportunity to add crucial pieces in the draft to round out what should quickly become a competitive roster, the Berserkers have the potential at each position already to turn things around. At this point, it's all down to the development of the many rookies who took to the ice this season across all positions, including the starting goalie, and the sophomores just ahead of them. Prompt #5 - Superlatives: 153 words = 3 TPE Most Likely to Have a Sore Tummy - Tummy Hurts. This one should come as no surprise. We have written at length about the constant pains in Tummy's tummy, and at this point it would be more surprising if Tummy's tummy did not hurt. This guy is just overeating constantly, devouring dinners and then turning to dessert before giving himself a chance to settle. Nobody loves their pre-game pasta more than Tummy - not even Tylar when you add ketchup - and so it's no shocker that Tummy has won this category. Most Likely to Lose Their Starting Job - Samuel Piccard. Another no surprise here, as Sammy Piccard did lose his role as starting goalie for the team this year as electrifying rookie Tummy Hurts burst onto the scene. Piccard's junior season is all but over at this point, going out with a whimper as he failed to ever really put up any decent numbers. Sad. Prompt #6 - Team History: 219 words = 4 TPE The Newfoundland Berserkers have a storied history despite being one of the newer franchises in the league - that is, if you consider them one of the newer franchises. Originally, the Berserkers played in Lethbridge under a different name: the Lethbridge Lions. The Lions were one of the original franchises in the SHL's junior league, then known as the North West Junior Hockey League, or NWJHL, back in Season 1. Managed by Spangle, who became the SHL's Commissioner for quite some time, the Lions later folded until their return many seasons later. Version 2 of the Lions were short-lived as the team soon moved to St. John's, Newfoundland and became the Berserkers. Success came quickly, as the team built a solid core of players who became well-known for their positive locker room atmosphere. Players like Ryuuji Minamino, Patric Twist, Juuka Timonen, and PBJ Souppan became cornerstone players on which the new franchise built. Soon players like Lassi Suhonen, Liam Slate, Vaseline Podcalzone, and Jonas Kahnwald were added. These players played key roles as the team won the Four Star Cup in S54. That taste of victory set the standard, and the Berserkers went on to win many more Four Star Cups in ensuing seasons. Now rebuilding, the Berserkers hope to soon reach the heights they have become so accustomed to. Prompt #13 - Superstition: 215 words = 4 TPE As the prompt indicates, there are many well known superstitions throughout sports, and especially in hockey. That is no different in the SMJHL, where superstition runs rampant. While players are constantly entering and graduating from the league, some superstitions have stood the test of time. The Newfoundland Berserkers, recently one of the most successful franchises in the SMJHL before falling on hard times over the past couple of years, are one of the best examples. There have been many locker room superstitions, including the shouting of "HODL" during the third period when the team has a lead, or the iconic blowing of the viking horn before a game. However, something unique has happened this year, as a new superstition has entered the fold. With the addition to the team of rookie goaltender Tummy Hurts, the Berserkers team has taken to rubbing Tummy's belly before every game, and during intermissions. This sometimes even happens during timeouts when Tummy skates back to the bench. Has it helped them win? Obviously not, but it has made Tummy's tummy hurt a little bit less, and that's what counts. Hopefully, as the superstition continues and Tummy continues to receive those tummy rubs, his tummy will hurt so little that he can really focus on the game and stop some pucks. RE: S67 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - NYR73 - 10-19-2022 Milestones - 3 TPE Prompt 2 - Looking Towards the Future - 153 words, 3 TPE The Colorado Raptors will see the unfortunate departure of their starting goalie Shiny Shuckle, as well as their top winger Jolmi Koivu. These will be holes that will need to be fixed very quickly to remain competitive. Drafting a goalie should be a priority for the Raptors. There is also some need for defensive depth. The Raptors had to fill the defensive paring on the third line with DFAs. And while they performed well for their small sample size of games, those stats would not have held up for a whole season. Growing defensive depth should be another priority. The Raptors were among the top offensive performing teams in the league, and if they strengthen their defense they will be a force to be reckoned with. Their offensive departures will be minimized by the development of right winger Erik Bergmark and center Adrian O'Rugg, who will lead the team's offense in future years. Prompt 7 - Four Star Showdown - 106 words, 2 TPE I think the defending champions, the Nevada Battleborn, have a very good chance to repeat. They were outstanding in the regular season, they were among the top teams in the standings, and were awarded with a first round bye. The championship winning core is intact, and they added future defensive stars Ragnar Lothbrok and John Brown, Brown being the first overall selection in the S67 SMJHL entry draft. Another strong contender is the Quebec City Citadelles. They were atop the standings this season, and outperformed expectations majorly. Their regular season run was made possible by the outstanding scoring of Sophie Bordeleau, as well as their rookies. Prompt 12 - On the Radar - 166 words, 3 TPE Erik Bergmark has found his place on Colorado as an offensive forward. His game is heavily offensive-minded, and he can adapt to any strategy in the opposing zone. The combination of his skating, his puck handling, passing, and shooting makes him a threat from anywhere. He can adjust to a team's offensive needs, whether that be a playmaker or a sniper. He played a sniper role for the Raptors last season, and ended up third in rookie goal scoring. He led all rookies in shots, and was among the top 10 in the league for shots. He blossomed in the first round of the playoffs, despite the Raptors being eliminated in 7. He had 2 goals and 6 assists to tie the lead for the team in points. His ceiling is high, he has the potential to be a winger on the top line of an SHL team when he hits his peak. Any team in need of an offensive weapon should be thinking about him. Prompt 18 - Goals - 251 words, 5 TPE There is so much to do, both on the site and as a player. As a player, I am hoping to be a top forward on the team that drafts me. I aim to earn as much TPE as possible, and I really believe that I can do it. Winning a cup once or twice during my career would be nice, but that's just a bonus. What's more important is to develop a sense of community with the people I play with. I have already begun to do so in my short time in Colorado, as well as the wonderful people in the S68 draft class discord, and I can't wait to keep getting to know those people. The social aspect of this league has been my favorite part, I am loving it so much more than I could have imagined. There is a lot I would like to do on the site. I have already taken a job as an updater, and I plan to continue doing so. It's been a great experience, learning more about what goes on behind the scenes in the league. I am planning on applying to be a WJC gm, to see how I would like the small sample size of gming. If I do like it, I will strongly consider getting into actual gming. Of course I would like to get a better understanding of the league and how the sims work before I do that, but it is definitely something I am considering.
