RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - bluesfan55 - 10-16-2022 the anchorage armada have prepared for the playoffs very well over the regular season. they have treated every single regular season game as a playoff game. some were wins, some were losses, but all of this has been seen by the armada as practice for the postseason, getting them one step closer to playoff form as they look to take home the four star cup for the first time since season 57. as such, the gap between the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs has been seen as something of a vacation for the armada players. sure, there have been game film sessions and practices, with the players having been assigned tape to watch as homework for the yoffs, but the team has emphasized togetherness as well. there have been frequent team bonding sessions ranging from go kart racing to game nights to arcade takeovers. this way, they roll into the yoffs as a formidable team unit ready to win the cup RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - ACapitalChicago - 10-17-2022 A lot of the ways the Nevada Battleborn have prepared for the SMJHL Playoffs this season have been looking to previous experiences and learning from them. Last season was truly a wacky experience between the win streak and then the playoff sweep. However, they're both such unique and iconic experiences, that it becomes difficult to try and figure out what to learn from them. Instead our biggest bet is to focus on what worked well this season that we can continue to capitalize on. The biggest factors were experienced users continuing to win and do their best on their players, setting a good frontline for our team. In addition, we also had our rookies have massive performances that were also critical. Lothbrok was huge in their shots and blocks across the league, while Brown was also performative in making sure the team had the heavy defense it needed in key situations. By being able to rely on the newer players, Nevada can open up some bigger and better plays with confidence. RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - jbay7 - 10-17-2022 Ever since their disappointing loss in Game 7 of the semi-finals last season, everyone in the St. Louis locker room has been focused on getting back to the playoffs and taking the next step. Though the Crows certainly took the regular season seriously and wanted to secure the best seed they could in the playoffs, they also recognized that performing well in the regular season was not their goal and that ultimately the regular season was there to prepare themselves to have the best possible postseason. This has meant treating each regular season game as a chance to improve as a team, whether it be learning from mistakes that were made or building on things that worked for future games. The coaching staff has been hard at work constantly analyzing the Crows play and implementing updated game plans to bring the best out of each player. For the players, it has been about staying both mentally and physically sharp and ensuring they are in the best possible state of body and mind once the playoffs roll around. (173 words) RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - Frenchie - 10-17-2022 Keeping in the spirit of the tough season that the Kraken have had to go through, Derek Martin knows that a tough offseason awaits. Having had to fill in at the center position after the trade deadline due to the departure of beloved teammate Alexi Kettu, it is now expected of him to be able to transition full time to this position. That being said, although he showed glimpes of brilliance, mainly with a respectable two-way performance and a decent enough faceoff win percentage, he knows full well that this is not enough if you expect to be a contender for the 4 star cup. His work will be twofold, both on and off the ice, in conditioning and getting faster and stronger, as well as improving his faceoff abilities and offensive and defensive reads in order to provide a steadfast presence for his dynamic duo winger, Liam Logger, and for the rest of the Carolina squad. RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - KaleSalad - 10-17-2022 The Maine timber have taken a look back on the season and started watching game film in order to come up with the best possible strategy for the playoffs. With facing a familiar team in the GFG in the first round they know they have their work cut out for them. This is the playoffs and there is no easy series now. The main thing the timber have done is mental training to realize there are no more east games or taking a game off or it can cost you big time. You can’t look to the next rounds before finishing off the one you are in right now. This combined with the leaders of the team that have had some playoff success yet also have some unfinished business after an earlier liked exit last season. Combine to make the timber a team that should have some high expectations for a playoff run this year. They got off to a slow start but have since been very consistent and one of th best in the league despite failing to catch Quebec in their division. The Timber look to have a deep playoff run this year. RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - minaj27 - 10-17-2022 Quebec City had a strong post season last year reaching the finals, but getting swept by Nevada. Many pundits were expecting our team to go into a rebuilding year as we lost 7 players from last years team. However the S68 rookies of Minaj, Hargreeves, Hawkey, Weaver, and Savage helped elevate the team back into the playoffs as the #1 seed. A younger team with fresher legs, we are looking to lean on the experience of our veterans who went to the finals last year. We struggled to close out the season on a strong note, so practices have been intense to sharpen up the skills during the bye round. However we aren't looking to make any drastic changes to our preparation since we finished top of the table. I know I am hoping to help those on the Citadelles avenge the Finals sweep and bring home the Four Star Cup for them! RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - NYR73 - 10-17-2022 A huge key to the Raptor's success this season was the development of the first offensive line. After last season's departures, and shifting from one core to the next, the first line has stepped up, and become one of the top offensive lines in the entire league. The Raptors will go as far as that first line carries them.. Building the top defense line is also going to be crucial for the playoffs. The emergence of rookies Adrian O'Rugg and Erik Bergmark gives the Raptors threats on all offensive lines. O'Rugg was among the top rookies in point scoring, and Bergmark was among the top rookies in goal scoring. The addition of Draftable Free Agents on defense adds to Colorado's depth on the blue line as well. The team is not as strong as last season, but they still have the potential to make a deep run. RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - SecondSucks22 - 10-17-2022 The Nevada Battleborn have prepared for this playoffs the same way any reigning team would, by taking it one game at a time. While we were in the hunt for the regular season championship, it was not lost on anyone that the most important thing is what comes after. We managed to sign an amazing DFA in @MCP_ to tighten up our defense, and everyone who could managed to get in those last minute workouts to make sure we are as strong as possible heading into the post season to play whoever we get in the second round. We know it wont be easy, definitely not sweep the playoffs easy as each team has done the same prep, but at the end of the day we just need to focus on playing the best hockey we can as a group. We do that and we set up the foundation for a dynasty. RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - teztify - 10-17-2022 Now that the S67 SMJHL Regular Season has come to an end, the time has come for the top-performing teams around the league to set their sights firmly on the upcoming playoffs and the Four Star Cup. For others, though - those belonging to less fortunate teams - the time has come to find some other way to spend their time. Such is the case for Tummy Hurts, the rookie goaltender for the Newfoundland Berserkers. Contrary to popular belief, Tummy Hurts' tummy does not hurt due to the amount of pucks aimed at it nightly, but rather due to his excessive, mindless, and uncontrollable eating habits. Indeed, Tummy is a regular around Newfoundland restaurants, often over-indulging in the freshly caught seafood and other east coast staples. With all of his free time, Tummy is excited to spend some time travelling around and over-eating delicacies local to other cities in an attempt to find something that makes him tummy hurt the best. RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - mystick - 10-17-2022 Lester Oiduser and the Newfoundland Berserkers have been preparing for this since week 1. Missing the playoffs, that is. We knew if would be a rough season, and we were right! As tough as it is, this offseason will be spent relaxing at first, and then getting deep into training. First is relaxing. and I am going right to a warm beach. A season of losing in the cold, now it is time for winning in the heat. After a week of that, its back into prep for next year. Having the extra time off from no playoffs gives me more time to work out, watch tapes, and train more than those going on deep runs. While they are tired and weary, I will be in the gym, on the treadmill and watching game tape to learn their flaws. They will not know what hit them next year. Well, they will know when they get up from the ice and see my number skating away from them. RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - lore - 10-17-2022 Though the Quebec City Citadelles finished off the season at the top of the league, it was admittedly a struggle on the final dash to the finish. Whatever was clicking all season long seemed to peter out out a steady pace, and the team still has yet to find it again. While the group is confident that the playoffs will reignite the magic that earned them the Laurifer trophy, the QCC front office took additional steps to ensure their players are set up for playoff (and future!) success. The team's goal differential, while absolutely solid on its own, was an area that could definitely be improved upon. With that in mind, QCC shored up their defensive core with up and coming defenseman Redd Savage, as well as DFA Cole Dasice. Additionally, since offense already comes easily to the current roster, the entire bench has been encouraged to focus on improving their two-way play. It remains a huge part of their post-season practices, with the rookies in particular taking the directive to heart. (172 words) RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - jlutz14 - 10-17-2022 In all honestly, the Kelowna Knights haven't done a lot to prepare for the playoffs. Heading into the postseason as an automatic qualifier, the Knights carry with them a record of 23-35-8 and a goal differential of -81. As a team that is expected to get blown out in the opening round, we carry with us no expectations and the desire to play the spoiler. We can play free without extra weight on our shoulders, as everyone is considering us to be an easy out. If we lose, it is simply what was expected, but if we win, everyone will be talking about how we upset a team that was much better than us during the regular season. Individually, my preparation has focused on this reality, as I am simply striving to play hard, put up a good fight, and try to cause a little havoc in the playoff bracket. Winning and losing can wait until next season; until then I just want to end on a high note as we prepare to continue to build toward a contender over the next few seasons. 184 words RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - SimmiZ - 10-17-2022 St-louis was more than ready for the playoff, the GMs told us that only one goal would be acceptable this season, and its to win the 4 stars cup. Everyone accepted that goals and put efforts into it. During the season, we got a lot of capped players to help us achieve that goal. With that in mind, we didnt want to take the season lightly before the playoff, the goal was to secure the best spot possible in the playoff seed. We got an horrible 2nd week, but the rest of the season was pretty good. With a lot of new players, and some up and down during the season, the gms been hard at work to test some stragegy and changing lines, to see what would fit best for our team in the long run. The energy is high in the locker room, we understand the challenge ahead, and are ready to take it. Be aware if you find yourself in our way, its all or nothing for the crows! 173 words RE: S67 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams - eddiesnothere - 10-17-2022 Great Falls Grizzlies take every game as seriously as the one before it, and the playoffs are no different. Coming off of a tough season, the team understands just how hard winning has to come, and what lengths they need to go to secure it. The Grizzlies know that they have their hands full against the Maine Timber, who have whooped them in all their meetings this season, including a 6-2 bludgeoning early through that pretty much blunted any hope of Great Falls sitting in a high spot in the Wollker Division. As we get closer to the playoffs, the Grizzlies engage in their rigorous routines and run through film and the playbook to be sure they're ready for the coming fight. They relentlessly drill to improve their defensive instincts and try to keep their spirits up, but in the back of everybody's mind, they know the fight they face is bigger than any game they've played this season. |
