The SMJHL season is about to start, after we all got a taste of juniors hockey with preseason. RE: S69 SMJHL PT #2 - Season Preview - Duga - 01-23-2023

The first 7 games went well in my eyes we went 5-2 with a 0.714 point percentage. Bobby Mcginnis is going to be our crucial player for sure with his ability to move the puck which is how he got 6 goals and 3 assists for 9 points in 7 games. Tiberius Kane is the match Mcginnis needs he's able to shoot and dish that puck so well which is why he will be a crucial player this season. Our goalie Bandit Heeler is playing phenomenally with a save percentage of 0.905 already scoring a shutout in the preseason. Nino Di Giuseppe is dishing pucks left and right from the left  D position. Kyle Latreille didn't get his upgrade approved in time for the preseason but still managed to put up 2 Goals and 4 Assists now being a 220+ rather than 155 he might be putting up higher numbers but only time will tell.

The Colorado Raptors left a lot to be desired in their preseason matchups, going 3-3-1. But more than one of those losses were decided either in overtime or by a difference of one goal. The Raptors could very easily have been 5-2 with just a little bit of luck. But luck aside, this team is going to rest heavily on the shoulders of Chuchichäschtli Zopf (@Aneeqs), Erik Bergmark (@NYR73), and, of course, our big man in the back, Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz (@Zerg). These three club veterans will have to command their areas of the ice to perfection for Colorado to have any chance on making it on past the defending champs in their own conference, as well as one of the favorites to challenge Detroit for that championship, Anchorage. This young team will be forced to rely on the leadership, talent, and, well, frankly, the production, as well, for these three team leaders.  Raptors

Regina will definitely be in an interesting team to see how the season shapes out. Gone are pieces of the old guard in Hodor and Laroux and in is the new core of Söderberg-Snooks, Choi and Ozols. While the old guard still has some standouts left, Alexis Texas comes to mind, the rebuild will largely be shaped around how the youth movement works. First up is Choi, a relatively unknown pick who is already making waves in the clubhouse by sniping some impossible shots during preseason games. Their immense upside should help the team fix the goal scoring issue from seasons past. Next is Ozols, the silent guardian from Latvia. Quietly goes about his business day in and day out but features to be a huge piece on the penalty kill. Finally there's Söderberg-Snooks, who seems to flip flop on if she wants to block shots or take shots. Regardless of what direction she picks, the youthful energy in her steps will be huge for a long season. The Regina rebuild begins for now, but the youth is looking to make an immediate impact for the better.

It looks like it might be a long season ahead for the Vancouver Whalers as they had one win, five losses, and one overtime loss in the preseason. While the Whalers are rebuilding they will have to rely on several players including several rookies in their lineup. Two of these rookies are in the top line to start the season and will have to make an immediate impact to get things going. Wednesday Addams is a strong player up the middle but is starting the season at right wing and is expected to bring a lot of offense. Playing the middle on the line is returning player Klaes Ashford who had a pretty good rookie season last year who looks to improve on their game playing with Addams and winger Jeff Lewis. On the blue line, Sven Panda will play an integral role in keeping the puck out of the Whalers net. The imposing seven foot, three hundred pound defenceman will be continued to be replied upon to shut down many of the top lines of the Whalers opponents.

RE: S69 SMJHL PT #2 - Season Preview - Starchychaff - 01-23-2023

Vancouver is a decent squad coming into this season with high hope for success. Last season they lost in the first round but with a high profile rookie coming in they hope to go far. The team drafted Lebron James in the first round, the team hopes that LeBron will add that extra spark in their lineups. In the second they drafted Anthony Simmons II, the expectation is he will be a solid piece to help the squad develop further. The team also has Jeff Lewis a top scoring option on the team, he is expected to go far and be deadly. The team still has top Center Klaes Ashford, young Wednesday Addams, Defensive forward Sergey Bombay, Sven Panda being a solid defenseman, Cal Kono and Bojack Calhoun being offensive defenseman, and young backstop Charlevoix in the net. This team has a lot of weapons they need to work with and develop but they will go far this season.

Zerks Head Into the Season 69 Campaign with Promise

ST. JOHNS, Newfoundland (AP) — Once the final buzzer rang through The Dodge Ram 1500 Hellcat Memorial Arena in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada there was little celebration coming from Berserker players. In arguably their best performance of the preseason, a 4-1 beat down of the Battleborn, this game wrapped up the offseason and the players were eager to get back home and start the S69 campaign. They open the season at home to what the team is hoping to be a sellout crowd at Mary Brown’s Centre.

This year’s preseason standout was the 12th overall pick in this draft, Mit Wobet. As part of the second pairing with Oiduser; Wobet tallied 2 goals and added 4 assists to his stat line with a pre season team high of 6 points. Wobet is hoping to provide quality minutes and help put points on the board for the team this year while improving some of the defensive holes from the previous season. But the overall success of the Zerks will lie with the first line and everyone training hard. Kennedy III, Hopoate, and Ozolinsh will lead the offensive charge again this year as they combined for 14 total points. Tummy Hurts is going into his sophomore season with plenty of room for improvement from last season. The team also added a legacy pick in goaltender Rhett Carpet this draft. There is a lot of promise and potential in all facets of this team and it will make for an interesting season.

RE: S69 SMJHL PT #2 - Season Preview - Josh Latreille - 01-23-2023

The Malamutes did not have the best of pre seasons, there was no big stand out player. But that does not mean there is nothing to look forward to in the regular season. The biggest player to watch is Shea O’Connall, The Defensemen is in their draft year and looking to impress, they are just of a career year potting 13 goals and 45 points, Shea’s skills with the puck and hockey IQ are off the charts, and with them filling out their 6’5 frame with their strength, this is a player to watch. Next is Ray Alexander. The sophomore assistant captain is ready to take another step in the right direction, and the key for him this season will be his ability to move the puck, this is truly a special player and is already contending for one of the better passers in the SMJHL, they will be putting the puck onto their teammates tape more often than not. Last but certainly not least is Clint Clampton, here we have another player in their sophomore season, which means big steps forward, this 6’1 defensemen has the ability to play up and down the lineup for their gm, a very balanced player that can gel with any line they play with, this is Clint’s best asset along with his ability to play the extra minutes that a coach needs due to their great endurance.

The main focus for the Kelowna Knights in terms of preparation for next season has been spending time making sure that everyone's mindsets and focus is in the right place. In terms of ability, the Knights have a great roster but massively underachieved last season, and as such, the focus has been on making sure that everyone plays up to the best of their ability. The coaches have been working really hard to ensure they get the best out of the team, but it's inevitable that the players themselves will have the biggest impact on how things play out. Rookie goalie Tibuk Soonika will play a huge part, carrying the weight of being a starting goaltender on a team with cup ambitions in his first season in the league. Jacques Hammer, the team's captain and most experienced player will have a huge role to play, leading the first line and Pete Aleman, perhaps the team's number 1 defenseman, will have a lot asked of him as he looks to lead from the blueline and put up points while remaining solid defensively.

Finishing the pre-season in the second half of the pack with a record of 3-3-1, the Yukon Malamutes definitely have their work cut out for them. That being said, there is optimism and lots of room to grow for the young squad.

With a quick analysis, the team will need to work on getting a scoring touch and finishing plays. Of the 7 pre-season games played, Yukon scored 1 goal or less in 4 of them, being shut out 2 times. Tied for last in Goals For during the pre-season. The spot light will be on Happy Gilmore to pick up the slack as the Yukon's lead offensive threat. He will need to lead by example and hopefully this will rub off on the rookies on the team as they continue to improve and learn their game in the J.

The physical game is a strong point for the Malamutes and is something they need to capitalize on in order to create the chances they need to score more goals. Leading the team with 11 hits through the pre-season Alvin Wong will look to improve his physical game and wreak havoc on the other teams.

Lastly, newly named team captain, Sydney Shaw, has had a terrific training camp, coming into the preseason with 230 TPE as a rookie, an impressive feat. She will be key to the teams success moving forward as both a leader in the locker room, and setting the tone for each and every game they play.

The sky's the limit for this roster, just a little bit of time for some of the new and old pieces to gel together. But once it clicks, watch out.

RE: S69 SMJHL PT #2 - Season Preview - enigmatic - 01-23-2023

People (ourselves included) saw the Citadelles at the bottom of the rankings but hopefully the preseason doesn't prove to be a fluke because the team did really well and finished with a 6-1 record. Our rookies had a great showing, with Lance Googoo leading the charge with 8 points. I think he will be one to watch in particular not only because of his offensive abilities but also because he gets the job done in every aspect of the game with less time on ice than other players. He leads the team in hits as well, which shows that he is a well rounded player.
Another player important to our team will be Walter Sobchak, our starting goaltender. Our defense is young and he will need to make miracles happen every game if we want to find success. He had great stats in the preseason and I am confident he will carry that success in the regular season.
Finally, let's not forget veteran Nevek Kove who will be leading our defensive squad. With so many minutes played, he showed how important he was to our team in every situation and the rookies will undoubtedly look to him for guidance this season.

RE: S69 SMJHL PT #2 - Season Preview - chetib - 01-23-2023

Preseason has come and gone and we now have a better idea of how the Kelowna Knights are going to shape up. While Kelowna didn’t have the top scorer you can definitely see that the team as a whole is playing by committee.

We have Adam Liebold (@liebolda ), Mu Wisconsin (@Jiggly_333 ), Jacques Hammer (@TheHammer43 ), Petr Vrana (@Randominoe ), and Ekaterina Valieva (@MikeLiut ) all in top 10 of goals scored in the preseason. On the back end we have Potential Spam (@Roobacca ) and Dusty Wilson (@dustywilson22 ) contributing points as well. They are holding in 2nd and 3rd position overall in the league in points. We would be remiss if we didn’t notice the exceptional back stopping of the netminder Sea Jebus (@Theseajebus ) who is leading the league with 6 wins. Now we do have to take pre season games with a grain of salt because this is such a small sample size but I think this is a really positive step forward for a team that is ready to step up and be a contender in this league.

Go Knights Go!

This season is going to be a fun one for the St. Louis Scarecrows. Making Semis last season was amazing and all, but it’s soul crushing when all these rookies believe they can do it, but get stopped in their tracks. This years is the year St. Louis has the chance to win it all. As to choose out 3 players that are essential for this teams success, it’s hard to. The whole team is needed to get where we need to go. But our leadership of me, SimmiZ, Look-ah Pa-new, and our dear Captain JBay7 pieces all of us together and makes us a whole. Without the leadership we have, we wouldn’t be anywhere. The main goal for the Scarecrows is that #1 spot that is up for grabs every season, and the only way we can get there is hard work, strong leadership, and a bit of talent too. The whole team and our coaching staff believes we can do it, so let’s get the ball rolling!!

RE: S69 SMJHL PT #2 - Season Preview - Estovich - 01-23-2023

The Colorado Raptors look like having one of the most talented defensive duo in the league with both Isaac Forty-One and Chucichaschtli Zopf, taking the ice for them. The Duo will be essential in Raptor success as they provide the defensive foundation but it will remain to be seen if the gifted duo can also use their substantial puckhandling skills to move the puck up the ice and create opportunities for the rest of their team. On the Wings the Raptors sport a one two punch with Carl Ray Jetson and Erik Bergmark the ability of these two to convert the pucks won by their defensive counterparts might play a large role in Raptors success, luckily for the team both of them have proven to be prolific creators in the past breaching the 50 and 60 point mark during their last season respectively. Last but not least at the Center position, Adrian O'Rugg, the third year player had a blazing hot preseason start posting 7 assists in 7 games, making him presseason leader, should he keep up that pace he would prove to be the connecting piece between the defense and wings and unlock the Raptors offense.

RE: S69 SMJHL PT #2 - Season Preview - lilstifler - 01-24-2023

Judging by preseason games, you could tell this season promises to be tough and difficult. That's probably the case because there are no more good players in the team and there are plenty of new players. If I have to highlight specific players who could lift this team higher, then one of them would be Taco Salad, he's an outstanding forward and already proved last season that he can be a team leader because he ended the season as the second most successful player in the team. Alexis Texas could be singled out as the second - a goalkeeper who will pull a set-piece team forward in the moments needed was already the team's first goalkeeper last season and handled his duties perfectly. I would also like to say that Olivers Ozols will be one of those players who can help the team with his performance. I'd like to expect a decent result from him in the junior first season and show a competitive performance.
