Off Season in Kelowna - chetib - 04-17-2023

It has been a season and a half since Kelowna rookie goaltender joined the Kelowna Knights. During the time here he has faced ups and downs but has always worked towards improving himself. Stats wise he is doing well and he is doing well respectively to other goal keepers in the league.

But there is more to just life than standing on the ice getting knocked with pucks day in and out. So come with me as we take a journey through Tibuk Soonika’s off ice life during his time here in Kelowna. The first thing to be comfortable with here in Kelowna was to get a sweet pad. Tibuk had to make some quick decisions but was fortunate to land a great home just a hop and a skip from Kelowna’s beautiful downtown core. This 6 bedroom house is great for when the boys come over and need to hit the lake and blow off a bit of steam. With the purchase of this lake side home it would be downright irresponsible to not go as far as purchasing a boat. Kelowna is nestled right on the heart of Lake Okanagan and during the long hard summer months of workouts and off ice training Tibuk needs an opportunity to unwind.

But home is only one aspect of what we can do to pass the time here in Kelowna. There is of course the obvious things Kelowna is known for like the lake, warm weather, and numerous vineyards to keep residents and visitors properly inebriated. But lets put that side for now and focus on some of the lesser known activities in and around Kelowna.

Goaltending can be a stressful job Tibuk has a few cats which help take some of the stress off while at home but when he needs a huge boost of cuteness there is only one place to go in Kelowna, Kangaroo Creek Farm. Yes Kelowna boasts an entire farm to playing with Wallabies and Kangaroos and they are adorable. Feeding the baby Joeys just melts your heart and if there was any stress before there is no way it is going to continue much longer. [Image: two-roos.png]

Tibuk has done a ton of gym work this last off season but one of the best places to go and get a good cardio workout in is definitely the Myra canyon trail. There is a ton of history of Kelowna from the old trestles that have been restored after multiple fires in its lifetime. The trestles also give a great reprise from the sun while out for a jog being active in the sun can be draining but running through some of the longer tunnels cool right down and make the distance just speed by. While Kelowna is renowned for its wine Tibuk could not possibly be able to enjoy any of it without a bit of the old fromage (he is Swiss after all). There is only once place to go for all your cheese needs in Kelowna and that is Carmelis Goat Cheese! They have so many different styles of goat cheese that everyone’s palate is going to be satisfied at this Kelowna classic!

There are of course so many more things to do in Kelowna but these have been a few of Tibuk’s highlights off the ice since joining with the Knights. Seriously though as someone who lived in Kelowna for a number of years if you do ever go to Kelowna IRL seriously check these places out because they are top notch and are my favorite places from the area. Except the house thing, please don’t knock on their door asking for Tib they probably aren’t going to be super happy about that.

I prefer goat cheese! Or a nice Brie.

Great article, I wish I lived in a house like this.
