S73 IIHF Tournament - Valpix - 11-12-2023

Hey everyone! It's your friendly neighborhood IIHF HO here, welcoming you to this season's tournament. This year's showcase of international hockey will be coming to you from the resident Asian country of the IIHF, Japan! Last season, the Japanese squad dominated the group stage, but were upended by France in the quarters. Can they get the job done on home ice? Will Germany repeat? Or will someone else rise up in the land of the rising sun?

This year's host city will be Osaka!

While Osaka doesn't currently host high level hockey, as Japan's Asia League teams tend to be up north, the city has plenty of facilities that the tournament can use, and is the home of the man, the myth, the legend, Taro Tsujimoto! (As well as one of Japan's four NCAA D1 women's hockey players, Lindenwood's Sena Takenaka.)

The estimated start date of the tournament will be November 16. Keep an eye out for other events around the tournament!

We've also recently started an IIHF History department and we're hiring! So if you want to help put together the history of the SHL's international circuit in an accessible location, well...hit me up! shameless plug done

Rosters for this season's tournament can be found here.

Good luck everyone! and Hopp Schwiiz!
