SHL FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE - Rangerjase - 03-18-2024
Good Morning and Monday SHL,
As some of you may recall, HO asked a question in the previous offseason survey about user donations to the SHL to keep things running. Right now the average monthly server cost that the SHL pays to maintain the Forums, Index, Trading Card and Portal is approximately $50 USD a month or approximately $600 USD per year.
The SHL relies on Donations large and small from members all around the league and that is why we're here. Currently for donations to the SHL you are awarded a special site badge. Donations have been on the lower side lately and HO has decided on some small incentives (Non-TPE based) to try and drum up some capital for the league.
With a total annual donation of $12 (or $1 per month) a site user will be entitled to the following:
- Permanent Donation Award on your site profile
- Special “Donator” user group that you can enable for a special forum username color
-We will potentially vote on this in the future to change the color
- 10 card packs will be provided for donators on the first of every month (our amazing dev team is working on automating this process)

In addition to donating via PAYPAL, which is preferable due to the lower fees from transferring from another PAYPAL account we have also opened a (higher fee's) Ko-fi (similar to Patreon) page.
Just to be totally transparent, the fees when it comes to this platform are on the higher side as you are sending a credit/debit card payment right to the paypal account. A $5 USD donation through Kofi nets $4.09. A $1 USD donation nets $0.49.

Our general thoughts is that if 50 users were to donate a minimum of $12 per year we would have no issue covering the annual server costs. If we got to a point where there was a significant surplus, the plan would be to create a poll on the site for how the excess funds should be spent. Whether we took the advertising for recruiting purposes down the road, or donating to a charity that can be decided by user vote or some other method.
There is no player based incentive here for donating and we don’t plan on awarding site money or TPE for real money donations to the SHL, this is purely voluntary and will also get some extra card packs in your pocket (trade me a Nash card please and thank you). In the case that the donations are not enough to cover the running costs, Wannabefinn, Jess & myself have pledged to cover any deficits in server costs.
