Czech it out 3 of 14! - Troy_McClure03 - 05-04-2024 Czeching out the Czechia Line Up: Each Week we are going to look at 3 to 4 players from Czechia to see who exactly they are in the SHL. The Deep-ish dive will continue to go in Seniority Order for Czechia. Let's keep this Czhit going! Last week we spoke about San-Sam Emerson, Jayson Aittokallio and Dominik Winters. This time around we have Alexej Kastrba , Arnost Hlemyzd , and Sunrise van de Schubbekutteveen. @hewasajazzman ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hailing from Brno, Czechia, Alexej Kastrba is an S71 Winger who currently plays for the Manhattan Rage. Before the Rage, Alexej was drafted in the 2nd round of the Jr Draft by the Carolina Kraken. For the Kraken, Kastrba was able to net over 200 points in 264 games. While Carolina wasn't able to win a cup in those 4 seasons, Alexej was a big part of the team, peaking in the last season where they were 3rd in points in the regular season for Carolina. In the SHL, Alexej has played the last 3 seasons with the Manhattan Rage. With 198 games so far, Kastrba has 134 points. While success has been hard to come by in Manhattan, Alexej is making the best of the situation , putting almost 500 shots at the net in those 3 games, and being a part of the second power play and PK unit. As Kastrba steps into the prime of their career, the Rage must expect Kastrba to step up in a big way. I'm willing to bet Alexej is on the first line by next season! Internationally for the WJC, Alexej played 4 seasons for UCORCAL where they were plugged into various different and difficult positions, from PK to PP , 3rd line to 1st. Alexej was able to really showcase range for a forward, being very defensive minded at times, and trying to light the lamp in others. In 51 total games, Alexej managed to stay just under .5 ppg with 24 points. For the IIHF, Kastrba was selected 5 times to the big league, and has improved greatly with each season. In 61 total games, Alexej Kastrba has put up 20 points, 1 game winner, and has taken over 100 shots. They have a great shooting percentage at 11.4. This season Kastrba is going to continue to show this improvement and get even better! @Citizen of Adraa ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Teammates with Alexej Kastrba on the Rage, Arnošt Hlemýžd hails from Ústí nad Labem, Czechia. This 6 foot forward was selected 9th overall in the S71 draft to the Great Fall Grizzlies. In 4 full seasons, this Defenseman managed to get 112 points in 264 games, with over 6000 minutes of ice time (by 1 minute) and an average of 22:44 ice time per game. In those 6k minutes, Arnost has 570 blocks and 442 hits, with over 200 take aways. This minute eating bear never made it far in the playoffs, only getting to the 2nd round after 2 7 game series in S73. However, the Grizzlies depended on Arnost day in and day out to eat minutes, block pucks, and throw a few people into the glass. And Hlemyzd obliged. Once the Jr days were over, Arnost went to the big league with the Rage. Drafted in the 3rd round with the 59th pick, AH made every other team look foolish by passing on him. (I know... I know...) With 42 points in 132 games, AH continues to contribute night in and night out. While AH doesn't seem to be too keen on scoring or shooting, they use all 214 pounds to drive hits, sitting at 108 hits in 2 seasons. That big frame also gets in the way of shots, 350 so far! Success for the Rage has yet to be seen, but with these 2 on the ice, it isn't a question of if, it is a question of when. Internationally AH has a strange history, no doubt from all the special characters making the portal go nuts. They played in S57, S58, S59, S60... then S71-74. That can't be right! What we do know is for the WJC AH played for Ice for one season and UCORCAL for the rest. They followed the same narrative as before, not a ton of points, but a butt ton of blocks and hits. For the IIHF, AH has no records, but deeper diving shows that they did play 4 seasons in the WJC and the IIHF. For the IIHF, AH has 48 games played with 11 points, 23 take aways, 76 blocks and 51 hits. As Czechia continues to improve, look for AH to make their mark known and punish anyone who is willing to try to step into our zone! @Thunfish ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sunrise van de Schubbekutteveen, or SVDS , hails from Schubbekutteveen, Zeeland, the Netherlands. This hard working center currently plays for the Calgary Dragons. Before the days of being a Dragon, SVDS was a proud member of the St. Louis Scarecrows, playing 3 seasons with them after being drafted by them with the 10th pick in the S71 draft. For the Scarecrows SVDS was a star right out of the gate, being a point per game player. That production would fall out over the next 2 seasons, but that also doesn't matter since SVDS made it to the 4 cup final in S72, winning it all. SVDS has the game winning assist against the timber to win the cup. That is something no one can take away from them! After 3 seasons, SVDS was called up by the Dragons, who selected them with the 23rd pick in the draft. With 3 seasons in Calgary, SVDS has 170 points in almost 200 games played. They have split time on both PK and PP units, and are shooting at a 14% success rate. While they haven't been able to recreate the same success they did in the Jr league as far as cups go, they are maintained the same scoring touch and are 100% a vital part of the Dragons locker room. SVDS won 2 awards in the WJC, both the Brady McIntyre and the DeMarcus Smyth, both in S73 with Team World (Or North America? The history says NA the index says World...) Regardless of the exact team, SVDS was a huge part of that team, still being almost a point a player and still being right on the PK and PP. For the IIHF, SVDS has 24 games with Czechia, sitting at 14 points. They have had limited time on the PK and PP as of now, while the roster matures and gets closer to being in prime position for a gold run. SVDS will be a huge part of Czechia's success, both now and in the near future! (1170ish words, most of them gibberish... thanks!) RE: Czech it out 3 of 14! - Thunfish - 05-05-2024 I think it was Team World, yeah. Might've been registered wrong. RE: Czech it out 3 of 14! - micool132 - 05-05-2024 C Z E C H I A |
