Welcome to the first annual San Deigo Tidal’s season awards! That’s right! At each end of the season, the staff team of the San Diego Tidal will give awards for their players to indicate their best performance through the season. We can also give a round of applause for all the team for the great inaugural season they played for the Tidal. Really helped the San Diego city to get more fans to love hockey here in California! So, let’s get started, shall we?
Tide Pods Award
The Tide Pods award is granted for the best rookie in the team. Depending on the activity of the player and his stats, the San Diego staff team will choose one of his ‘’Tide Pods’’ to earn that wonderful award. Fun fact, Takk named the Tidal the ‘’Tide Pods’’, but he doesn’t want to name all the team that name, so Fish and Corey named that nickname for the rookies. It gives a funny look for the team aswell. For the season 76 of the SMJHL, the staff choose Sam Volta to earn the Tide Pods Award. Volta has been their top 1 center all season long, feeding Brandon Gilleyes, Skyler Stevens and Future Conciderations some goals all season long. With 66 games played during the regular season, Sam Volta produced 71 points (27 goals and 44 points). Which is amazing considering that it was only his rookie season.

We can also shoutout Gina Pinard and Skyler Stevens for their hard work with their rookie season with the Tidal. They both went second and fifth (respectively) for the most points by rookies last season. Let’s say that the GM team went good on offensive mode during the draft. We can’t forget Marko Kivimaki, who was coming from the waivers. He helped a lot for the defence.

Beaufort Award
The Beaufort Award is granted for the best defenceman from the San Diego Tidal each season. In context, the word ‘’Beaufort’’ means the scale of waves intensity in the ocean, from 0 to 12 (12 is the highest and dangerous one). Which means that a defenceman is well deserved to get it if he helps the team defensively because nothing can pass through a high wave intensity. For the season 76 of the SMJHL, the Beauford Award goes to Journey Man. In fact, in 66 games, he manages to make 41 points (10 goals and 31 assists), 105 hits and 114 shots blocked. It was his best season in his SMJHL career so far and he really deserved that award because of his defensive aspect of the game during the whole season.

Coral Award
The Coral Award is granted to the best goalie of the team. In fact, in the oceans, the corals are a real barrier to any natural disaster caused by Mother Nature (Hurricanes, Cyclones and Tsunamis). The corals reduce the intensity of hurricanes and tsunamis which helps a lot the ground to get more secure. Like in hockey, goalies help a lot a team because they save the shots from the opposing team, that leads to less goals. For the season 76 of the SMJHL, the Coral Award goes to Meo Vanbiesbrouck. Meo did very well for the inaugural season of the San Diego Tidal. In 59 games, he gets a sheet of 27-29-1 with a goal against average of 4.16. Even if it’s not the best GAA or sheet he has, he was the #1 goalie all season long and really deserved that award for his important efforts during his last season of his SMJHL career.

Dolphin Award
The Dolphin award is granted to the player who got the less penalty minutes (PIM) during the full regular season. However, the player must play the full season if he wasn’t claimed by the waivers (except trades if there’s any during the season). A dolphin is smooth and cute so that’s why the award for the least penalty minutes has been named. For the season 76 of the SMJHL the Dolphin award goes to Jurijs Ralfs! The defenceman made only 16 penalty minutes during the season (which is 66 games in total).

Apple Award
The Apple Award is granted to the player who made the most assists during the season. An apple is also a nickname for an assist, which is why the award has been named the Apple Award. For the season 76 of the SMJHL, the Apple Award goes to AEric Calland! The center made 49 assists during the season, which is 8 more than Sam Volta (who came second with 41 assists).

Gulls Eye Award
The Gulls Eye Award is granted to the best player of the team (aka. MVP or Most Valuable Player). For this award, the player will also get a huge 1-week contract with the San Diego Gulls, from the AHL, which is why this MVP award is sponsored by them. After a couple of talks between the two GMs, the season 76’s Gulls Eye Award, they picked Sam Volta. Which helped a lot for the team with the points and really improved himself during the whole season. Congrats to Volta and good luck for your 1-week contract with the Gulls lol!

We also have a couple awards left that we didn’t have any name for now, but here are those awards:
Best Forward – Winner: Sam Volta (with 71 points)
Best goal scorer (most goals in a season) – Winner:  Future Considerations (with 42 goals)
Best Locker Room Activity – Winner: Sam Volta
Even if Gina was very active on the Discord and SHL server, Volta makes the difference by making every single PT activity for his rookie season. So that’s why Volta is one of the biggest TPE worth in the s77 Draft Class.

That’s it for the first Tidal’s Awards! It’s been a wonderful first season in the history of the San Diego Tidal. Big thanks to Fish and Corey for the massive team and amazing welcome & help all around the season. We will see those awards at the end of season 77.
