(GRADED) Deep Dive 1: The Seattle Argonauts - efischermann - 06-20-2024

The Seattle Argonauts are a team that has an incredible history. I will begin with when they had one of the better first rounds in recent history. A first round which included selecting Max Manning, Landon Fischermann and Willie Miller. Putting max earners at every level of the team. Max Manning is one of the best forwards in league history. Landon Fischermann was and still is a defensive stalwart. An anchor on the back end for over 10 seasons with the Argonauts. Max Manning is the best goaltender that has ever dawned an Argonauts jersey. To get all three of these players in one draft is an absolutely incredible job. Just a masterful draft from Tig on his way to building a dynasty.

What that trio did (while joined by many other big names) is get Seattle to the conference finals four years in a row, and winning a championship in consecutive years during that span. The legacy that Tig build in Seattle is an incredible one, and something that all incoming expansion teams should really strive for.

The biggest change has been over the last six seasons or so. The hard part of making a contender, is sometimes you need to destroy the rest of the club. Landon was actually the first time Seattle used their own first round pick, which is incredible considering how many drafts that team went through. The issue after building up the arsenal that was there in Seattle comes at a great cost. One that we are seeing now. However, there has been a lot of great drafts in the last few seasons, and there may yet be some hope brewing now in Seattle. This season was the first big callup for General Manager Eddie Fischermann. It showed some early promise, winning early and often when the season started, but being the lowest TPE team in the league still has to have some issues. Things have stabilized a bit as the season has gone on, but with this incredibly young roster, the Argonauts are actually not far off from their first playoff berth in quite a few seasons. Something that the entire league needs to take note of. Considering their massive TPE inefficiency, just wait until they have all their players up and earning. It is going to be an absolute force to be reconned with in Seattle.

So, while the Argonauts once enjoyed the spoils of being a constant contender, they are now in the dumps at the bottom of the league. The hope this time, is while they are hoping to improve and become that perennial contender again, that this time there won’t be such an amazing drop off when the roster begins to age. It is just different philosophies. Can this one work? We don’t know yet. However, there is quite a lot of optimism inside the Seattle locker room, and there shouldn’t be much doubt that the league needs to take notice of this young fire burning inside of the team. There is a lot to be hopeful for with the crew that is on its way up.
