Chuck Stewards Draft Interview (2x draft) - ghamss - 08-04-2024
Interviewer: First off, congratulations Chuck. It must be very exciting to be drafted into the SMJHL.
Chuck: Thank you, it is. I've been dreaming about this for the past few days. Once my agent became aware of this league, I knew I was destined to be in it.
I: That's, great! What was your first reaction when you heard you got picked 18th?
C: Honestly, I was shocked. I looked through a number of the mock drafts and didn't see my name anywhere! I was expecting to go much lower.
I: When did you learn you got picked?
C: My agent called me right away. Apparently, he was a little tardy at tuning into the draft and logged onto the stream about 5 seconds before my name popped up. Lucky timing! (True story IRL, I couldn't believe it haha)
I: How do you feel about being picked by Carolina? Did you know they were going to pick you?
C: I'm super pumped. Draft day was a whirlwind for my agent and I. He was busy with RL things so we didn't know what to expect. Sounds like a number of Scouts and GMs reached out a few hours before the draft. From conversations with my agent, I thought there were a few other teams that might be more interested in me than Carolina but I'm pumped. I had a great conversation with one of the Kraken Scouts and couldn't be happier to land in such a great organization.
I: Any insight on where you didn't want to land?
C: All the conversations my agent had were positive. Not many bad places here.
I: I know you're busy, so one last question. If every time you scored a goal, a random fact about you was broadcast to the crowd, what would you want it to be?
C: Haha well, there's a reason I'm looking to be a stay at home defenceman ? But if I had to pick one random fact, I'd say it's the fact that I am unbelievably good at beer pong. I'll take on the entire league and win.

Super excited to have Chuck in Carolina! I will be sure not to bring up beer pong tho cuz I'm not good
