S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - puolivalmiste - 08-12-2024 The SMJHL season is about to start, after we all got a taste of juniors hockey with preseason. In the 7-game span of preseason, teams got a pretty good look into what to expect, and also who the key contributors are likely to be. How is your team looking ahead of this season, and who are gonna be the main pieces of your squads? Written Option: Talk about how your team is looking ahead of the coming season. Include at least 3 players who will be key to the success of the team, plus an explanation why they will be crucial. Must include 150 words. Graphic Option: Create a magazine cover style graphic with a headline for the team, plus a render for a key player on your team's squad. Make sure to identify which player the render is supposed to be in the graphic. You will receive 3 TPE for fulfilling all the requirements for any of the options. (You only need to do one of the options to get the credit and wont get additional credit even if you do more than one). All responses are due on Sunday, August 18th at 11:59 PST. NOTE: IF YOU SUBMIT/EDIT AFTER THE DEADLINE YOU WILL RECEIVE REDUCED/NO TPE. Reminder that Discord only hosts images for very limited time so you should use something else for hosting images. RE: S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - Valpix - 08-12-2024 For the Citadelles it's a continued retool, two years removed from the Cup and the graduation of the iconic S74 class. This season's team is rather young, especially after the graduations of Fredrik Gronlund, Wyatt King, and Song Ju-gong and the trading of Anna Skovgaard. That's not to say this team will be bad, per se. The offense should have three very strong lines, with sophomores Cristoforo Roccemontepiano, Andrea Morandi, Gordon McFisherman, and Randolph Thompson-Smythe leading the way. There's also a couple exciting rookies in Dejana Kaptina and Duke Howard, along with third-year J players in Nor Ge and recent pickup Gwendolyn Telenn. They'll all have to step up for a team that lost 3 of its top scorers. The real question mark for QCC is in the back, with just 3 natural defenders in the squad. Peter is a dynamic offensive player (he was top 10 in points by a blueliner as a rookie) but his defense is dodgy, and Anatolyi Tarasov is a physical bruiser and enforcer. It's not particularly ideal, especially with two rookie goalies in QCCBOT4 and Ela Solberg. If we can snag some defenders off the waiver wire, and the rookies earn well, this team has shown an ability to punch above its weight before. No one expects us to do poorly yet we're not expected to be amazing either, which will be sweet when key players such as Chuck Lumbermouth hit the ice, Our #1 player of the preseason, his shooting % is quite lofty at 31.6% over 7 games. quite a feat! Smudge Pan had slightly less at 20% but with only 10 shots that's quite strong as well! Three players for the Malamutes tied for third with 7 points each Ylib Kove Dash Jackson Christina Fantobens all sported 7 points in 7 games, quite a good showing by all. as we continue to improve over the season I believe we will be strong contenders for a cup nearing the end of the season, if not next season for sure. 154 words RE: S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - Evok - 08-12-2024 pt pass filework RE: S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - ValorX77 - 08-12-2024 ISFL Affiliate RE: S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - Cootdaddy - 08-12-2024 With preseason done it’s clearly evident Yukon has stepped up in a big way. With chemistry building amongst the players we will only become better and better as the season continues. Earls battle with having a lot on his shoulders may have given him some jitters in pre season as he was very quite with only 3 points in seven games so we will have to see how he develops throughout the year. Chuck Lumbermouth, did extremely well with 9 points in 7. Looking to lead the charge for team scoring leader. Christina Fantobens Also did extremely well as a Rookie putting up 7 points in 7 games. This team looks good and looks like they are ready to battle every game and every minute they are on the ice. Earl seemed to notice Bouch Bomb play a physical and offensive game and he’s set to hopefully learn from him over his career with Yukon. RE: S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - Aleris - 08-12-2024 Well, the Nevada Battleborn have the most 425s out of any other team. The pressure is really gonna fall on those mid-tier TPE earners. Everyone knows what players like Jim Wieners and Cade de Vries do for the team. But if newly-christened captain Hip Hurts can step up and produce then Nevada is really going to pop off. Rookies Kiwi, Slava, and Badger will join Hip in the race to 350 and having 4 rookies actively earning will be a huge help to the bottom of the Nevada depth chart. Akira will solidify himself in goal and shore up the D. Kiwi just needs to make sure she stays out of the penalty box and not give the puck away. Her talent is raw and unproven but here in the Js, she's got a chance to prove herself. The top of the NBB depth chart just needs to keep doing what they do. Jeyeff Effo does need to play defense more and stop hitting slappers from the blue line. RE: S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - JustHereToLeave - 08-12-2024 I see extreme promise in this season's Timber. And while I believe that with constant work, I could continue towards being of very great value to our team, this season the greatest players will be none other than Deth Klaw, May O'Nayse, and Anna Skovgaard. May and Anna were some of our top scorers this offseason. Deth is our captain and really a jewel for the organization. May O'Nayse has been one of the better wingers for our team. Anna serves as an alternate captain, showing great promise over at QCC and is a player I know we'll see great play from this season. I am pretty excited to see what their talents can do to help shape our journey this season. They bring together leadership, skill, and determination that's really going to put the pedal to the metal in action for our team this year. Combining this leadership with the collective effort from all of our Timber roster, I know we'll be in good hands this season. RE: S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - bluesfan55 - 08-12-2024 The Anchorage Armada are coming off of a weaker season, but hope is high with their new defensive core, stocked almost exclusively with rookies. One rookie that'll be key to the Armada returning to top form is Javelin Bodine, the 3rd overall pick in the most recent SMJHL Draft. Bodine is a highly touted prospect, and looks to be at the head of a young, promising Armada defensive core, with fellow rookies Barcus Juneau (who so far looks to be a steal in the late second round), Abbe Wass, Deven Rappleyea, and Dieter Frühstück also looking to make an impact. The goalies, Adam Joy and PeanutButter Zamboni, also look to be key figures for the team this year. They form what is likely to be the best goalie tandem in the league, and will have a lot of work to do if the defense struggles (as many are predicting) this year. Finally, one forward to look out for is third round pick Hughes Incorporated. He had a stellar preseason, and if that's an indication of what we'll see from the rookie winger, he could be contending for ROTY. RE: S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - Waters - 08-12-2024 The Great Falls Grizzlies may have a slightly mediocre pre-season, but that doesn't change the fact that this roster has a significant amount of talent. The first line especially showed solid chemistry, but there were a few players who will be crucial in driving the team’s success this year. The H line will be a key contributor, especially early in the season as the rookies continue to grow. Hudson, Hanak and Howlett are 3 of the best players in the league, and this showed in their preseason, where they all had nearly 2 ppg. The team's starting goaltender, Gil-Galad, will be crucial as well. He had a disappointing preseason, and will be looking to show his littany of abilities and establish himself as one of the best in the J. Finally, our rookies will be crucial. GWJ, Mumei, Josephsdottir and Daviskov will all need to improve if the Grizzlies want to see postseason success. RE: S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - Mtstreaks04 - 08-12-2024 With the preseason in the books NewFoundland looks to be where most pundits have predicted, which is middle of the road. With a rookie goalie in net and an overall very young team, there will likely be some bumps along the way but there is a chance to surprise. Leading the way on offense and an integral piece is Connor McDusty with 13 points in 7 games and surprisingly rookie Jason Bourne, with 12 points. Judging from preseason minutes it looks like Turtle Bob and Leo Finnegan will be counted on to play some big minutes in all scenarios. Another bright spot was rookie goalie Katharina Rosenthal who proved she is capable of playing the majority of games and still keeping her team in a position to win. With a .916 save percentage and a goals against just above 3 it’s clear that the spotlight isn’t too bright. While this is a young team that may not be on many peoples radar, it does have the capability to surprise and who knows may make a run at it earlier than expected. RE: S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - jason97 - 08-12-2024 In the upcoming season for the Colorado Raptors, expectations are quite tempered. Regarding the recent SMJHL draft, they added star centreman Normand Marineau, along with a few other rookies post-draft. Regarding talent, the Raptors would be widely seen as a middle-of-the-pack team in the South division. To contend for the cup this season, they need their best players to step up and play a massive role. On offense, the entire first line of veteran forwards including Nathangus McExplosion, Baron Samedi, and Raw Cheese McPickle will have to carry the team on their backs. They quickly showed in the seven pre-season games that they can certainly take matters into their own hands, leading the entire league in points. The defensive pairing of Cadmael Ixazaluoh and Bojan Miovski will have to play upwards of twenty-five minutes per game to account for the lack of defensive depth on the Raptors roster. Finally, the goalie tandem of Tomas Suchanek and Timo Leppanen will play at their absolute best to keep the Raptors in tough games with their subpar defense ahead of them. This should be an exciting SMJHL season for Raptors fans as they will try to will their way to another championship! A seven game preseason is just a tiny look into what the upcoming full season will be. Such a small window on the capabilities of the teams cannot possibly be trustworthy. That all being said: the Anchorage Armada are going all the way baby! The Armada completed the preseason with five wins, one loss, and one OT loss, good for second in the SMJHL: practically unstoppable. Unlike some other teams that rely on one strong line, the Armada are incredibly balanced. A whopping ten Armada players got at least 5 points in the 7 preseason games. Two key players are forwards Lyle Odelein IV and Jefferson Steelflex. These two are the only players on the entire team who have maxed out their TPE, and will be counted on to lead the team to their inevitable spot in the Four Star Cup finals. Two other key players are the two goalies, PeanutButter Zamboni and Adam Joy. Both are solid goalies, used to sharing the duties in net, and both achieved at least a .900 save percentage. They are the piece that will put the Armada over the top, surely handing the team the Four Star Cup. It's all so clear. RE: S78 SMJHL PT #1: Season Preview - TipToasty - 08-13-2024 Over the offseason the Thunder Bay Walleye faced an amount of changes that could overwhelm even seasoned players: a relocation to a new city, new fans, player call ups, and a crop of new rookies. While hopes are high for the new season, the goal for the team is development of new talent and building a new identity. Goalie Grant Berd is a key part of this team’s success over the season. Berd is coming off of a solid rookie season, with 2.5 GAA and 31 wins, but struggled slightly in the preseason, allowing 22 goals over seven games. Crazy Tomato II led the defensive effort in the preseason, but the team will need more to step up as not one player finished with a positive plus/minus. Tomato will be seen as a vet presence on D this year. On the opposite side of the rink, Thunder Bay rely on younger scoring talent, like Puddles O’Duckling, who lead the team in scoring over the preseason, showing their skills in both scoring and distributing the puck. |
