S78 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - puolivalmiste - 09-23-2024 The S78 SMJHL Playoffs are over and now it is time for Postseason Bonanza! Wait! What's this? Here's how PB will work: there are several tasks, each of which is worth varying amounts of TPE for putting in a little effort, for a maximum of 16 possible TPE total. You can mix and match, complete them in any order and do as few or as many as you would like (up to 16 TPE). Recreates, you will find this slightly different than CW. Here's how TPE will be earned: For every 50 words you write about a prompt, you will earn 1 TPE. That scales on, so 100 words for 2 TPE, 150 words for 3 TPE, etc. If you wanted to 800 words about one prompt, that would be 16 TPE right then and there. The graphics TPE scale has remained the same. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please, after every prompt you write about add a Word Count (ie. 150 words). This will greatly help the PT Team! ONLY S78 SMJHL ROOKIES (S79 Players) CAN EARN TPE for Postseason Bonanza TASKS. If you signed after the trade deadline and are going into the S79 SMJHL Draft, this TPE is not for you. You may claim affiliation from an (one, 1) ISFL, PBE or SSL PT this season for a max of 3 TPE. Deadline: Sunday, Ocotober 6th at 11:59PM PST Without further ado, here are our prompts! She’s part owl, and often only speaks in her native Inuit language so she often brings a translator with her at all times. Mumei definitely has the potential to be a top 3 forward in the league if developed correctly, as she is someone who can dominate on both sides of the ice. Mumei can often be seen as someone who is very anxious and often needs help to speak in public. However, she can be a bit concerning especially if you get in the wrong side of the books, mainly not giving her berries after a game. In the locker room, Mumei enjoys discussing the history of anything to her teammates but they often fall asleep after 10 minutes. Sure, her rookie numbers in the J are not that promising but she has the biggest potential out of all the draftees, to the point that some pundits have her as the first overall pick. Mumei’s best fits are a bit of a mystery, as many thought that the Monarchs would select her at 1, but some sources say that teams such as New Orleans, and Buffalo among others have shown significant interest in drafting her. To be frank, Nevada is in dire straights this coming season. Moves were made last season to try and win now and unfortunately it did not pan out. I don't think Nevada has a lot of picks in the upcoming drafts and S80 is looking a little thin. It seems the best player is a "force my way on to QCC" type so it's gonna require other J teams to dig deep. But Nevada had some very large classes and I believe the last of them just graduated to the Js. So it really leaves Kiwi in a position to really step up on the team with the rest of the S79ers. Luckily the other two S79ers are literally captains on the team and I'm happy to see the team grow away from Jess and mines control. JFK and Fancey are doing a great job and I love that they made moves to try and win quickly this season. Nevada just might not be near the top of the league next season. Kiwi should be capped soon though with training camp and other stuff. So there's a solid core, hopefully we can get lucky in the draft and really make it work. But Kiwi hopes to keep the Nevada blue line strong with her fellow rookie class member juke (219) - 4 tpe 3. Nevada already makes the opposing team change their gear in the broom closet so thats one way we already gain advantage. We also only allow them to have hotels on the strip and then make sure to put ads for "out of towner" deals at casinos so the players are up all night and hung over the next day for the game. The arenas pluming also runs over the broom closet, i mean opposing team locker room, so the locker room super stinks. Its probably why Nevada once one of the best home records in like J history. Oh and the gambling machines are above them too so the fans gambling before the game can be heard in the locker room. Constant slot machine noises and prize winning bells. (129) - 2 tpe X. ISFL affiliate - 3 tpe 18. S78 Milestones - 3 tpe 12. Kiwi is following in the footsteps of not only her uncle Conner Snooks, but also her older sister Willow Söderberg-Snooks. Willow plays for the San Fransisco Pride and played for Regina in the Js. Conner on the other hand played for the same J team as Kiwi but had 4 different SHL teams. Kiwi has always looked up to her sister though, especially with the larger age gap between them. Would she like to play with her someday? Maybe, but even more she wants to play against her sister, so at least initially that would rule out San Fran. Other teams from Conner's past have shown interest in Kiwi. Both Edmonton and Winnipeg have reached out to Kiwi and asked her to come to some stick and puck sessions in their locations. It truly has been busy for her as she also got "drafted" on to Team Czechia to play in the WJC on top of all this scouting and work outs. Calgary also had Kiwi come work out, so Kiwi did a sort of northern Canadian tour to all three cities. It's summer so it was at least not bitterly cold. Other teams like New England and New Orleans reached out with interviews but did not bring Kiwi on location. But one team in particular seems to really have there eyes on Kiwi and its a team that her other uncle Gunnar used to play at. I'm gonna be coy about this one though. But Kiwi has had a playlist of bands from this area on repeat this offseason. Maybe she's getting her hopes up but she's excited to just have a chance in the SHL. (200+) - 4tpe RE: S78 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - bluesfan55 - 09-23-2024 12: Dieter Frühstück has emerged as the draft's premier defensive defenseman, especially when it comes to shot blocking. His 253 shot blocks led all rookies and were second in the entire league, and he also had a positive GA/TA ratio. Frühstück wasn't afraid to throw the body around, either; 80 hits isn't great, but it still ranks well among defensemen. His big asset is his size; Frühstück is tall and heavy, which gives him great range in poking away pucks, eyeing up opponents, and obviously blocking shots. However, what he has on the defensive side of the game he lacks with offense. Frühstück plays as a defensive defenseman, and does not score points. All he does on the ice is play defense - you will not see him shoot the puck, and he has no hands. His offensive potential could be there but is seriously unrefined, and he also lacks mobility. He's a strong guy but can't skate very well, leaving him at risk of being burnt by opposing skaters. However, putting all of those minuses aside, Frühstück is genuinely one of the top prospects in the upcoming draft. He's emerged as a top earner, and even though his agent has known links to the Steelhawks he has said he's willing to go anywhere. This could be a generational defensive defenseman we're looking at here. 224 words, 4 TPE 16: Growing up in Germany, Dieter Frühstück admired Hodor. Hodor was, and as he's still playing is, probably the greatest defensive defenseman the league has seen since the days of Bojo Biscuit 30 years ago. Hodor was a natural hero for Frühstück, because he is a fellow German, and Hodor's style of play greatly influenced a young Frühstück. So, what Dieter wants to do in his SHL career is simple. He wants to become the next Hodor. He wants to be recognized as the best defensive defenseman in the SHL. He wants to lead the league in shots blocked on a regular basis, and maybe even retire as the career leader in shots blocked. Any player wants to be the best, but for Dieter it's been his ambition since he first strapped on the skates. He wants to be a moving wall. He wants to be the best defenseman at defense in the league, but he also wants to develop his offense a little bit - while defense will always be his first priority, his offensive game is a little raw and he wants to hone those skills as well. 189 words, 3 TPE 2: S78 was a great season for the Anchorage Armada, in the regular season at least. They will return a majority of their core for the next season, including their rookie stud-filled defense, potent offense and both goalies. That's huge for the team. However, they're losing three forwards, including star forward Jefferson Steelflex. Their aim this offseason will be to fill those holes. It would not be a surprise to see Anchorage using three picks on young forwards to fill out the roster and contend for a cup. The core is there - their defense is returning and young (should give them another 3 seasons), their goalie tandem will be back, and forwards like Hughes Incorporated and Nicolas Corrigan will be back. Just adding good young forwards to the team should be enough to really reinforce the team, keep their momentum going, and win a round in the playoffs (we haven't done that in a while). 154 words, 3 TPE 6: The Anchorage Armada have had a history filled with success going back to their days in Prince George, but a very transformative moment in their recent history was just over 20 seasons ago when they won the Challenge Cup for the most recent time. This was a stacked team. Their general manager was unfortunately Gabriel Johnson (BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO), but he somehow managed to build a great team. Pablo Salvatici, Lemo Pihl, and Igor Victory would go on to have fantastic SHL careers, with Salvatici at his peak being one of the best players in the league. Chimkin Tendy, before becoming a stud winger for the Buffalo Stampede, was a goalie, and backstopped the Armada to a ring. TURG TURG was the team's vibes guy (TURG GO BOOM). Overall, this was just a fantastic team. Gabe Johnson somehow deserves credit for making the Armada a powerhouse in the late S50s and early S60s, and winning this cup crowned his unfortunate regime as one of the better ones in league history. 161 words, 3 TPE +3 TPE: Milestones RE: S78 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - Symmetrik - 09-23-2024 3 TPE PBE Affiliate Code: 18. Team History I know this prompt says "my team" but I'll talk about the history, and a couple of defining moments of one of my previous teams, as well as a rival and somewhat intertwined competitor. I think there's no doubt in anyone's mind that @WannabeFinn was the greatest GM the Buffalo Stampede have ever had, and even one of the best the league has ever had. The 2 previous GMs both had losing records, and WBF came in and after a couple seasons to build up, turned the Stampede into perennial contenders. He was the GM for all 4 of their Challenge Cups. Back in S37 when WBF was hired for the Buffalo job, the Toronto North Stars were also hiring their new GM. Now, for the Stars, it seemed relatively straightforward, as they had the GM of the Prince George Firebirds on their team and he was looking for a promotion to the big leagues (it was me). Both Toronto and Buffalo were hiring their GMs at the same time, I got the Toronto job since I was already on the team, and WBF got the Buffalo job (being traded in from LAP). The teams themselves were in slightly different places at that exact time, though the seasons beyond S37 were pretty similar. Toronto was coming off their first Challenge Cup in S35, and would go to the finals again in S37. Now what if I told you that the history of these 2 teams could have been flipped? Like I said before, I got the Toronto job since I was already on the team. What if I had been on Buffalo? WBF would still have become a GM, it just, would have been for Toronto, turning the North Stars instead into one of the most dominant teams in the league. How could that have happened though? Well, it almost did. I was drafted only a few seasons earlier, in the S33 SHL draft. @Tomen was co-GM for Buffalo at the time, though he was still strongly involved in the Prince George war room and was an advocate for them drafting me in the SMJHL. I would have loved to join Buffalo at the SHL level, and they did have some picks early but went in different directions with 3 & 4 (the draft choices & eventual careers as a whole in S33 are their own wild conversation). Toronto had to forfeit 2nd overall. I had a bunch of conversations with Tomen ahead of the draft about Buffalo trying to trade up, determining who they would need to jump ahead of. Toronto was the question mark at pick 11, and NEW was a guarantee at pick 12. At pick 10 sat the Minnesota (at the time) Chiefs. Buffalo approached Minnesota about a trade, and they were thinking on it, and when Buffalo tried to follow up as pick 10 approached, Minnesota never responded. Toronto then picked me at 11 - their consolation pick as Ryan Strathairn had refused to play in Toronto. Now, I don't know what the talks were about, or if Minnesota knew Buffalo was trading for me, but I had made an article ahead of the draft ranking Minnesota as the worst draft destination (even among voting by the class members). Was it spite? Did they know Buffalo wanted me and ignored the trade because of it? That, I will never know. What I do know though, is if that trade happened, or if Ryan Strathairn had wanted to be in Toronto, both the North Stars and the Stampede would have traded places in the history, even to today. Imagine the SHL we'd live in if WBF had GM'd Toronto for 27 seasons instead. 10 TPE - 616 words RE: S78 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza - Fantobens - 09-23-2024 1. +2 tpe (102 words) The Yukon malamutes fan appreciation nights range in variety from free soup to getting a free dog. One would be little flags with the teams logo on it for the fans to wave around, but the flags would be designed to look like old fashioned heraldry banners. The other item would be little inflatable medieval weapons. They would be inflatable because it is cheaper to make that way, and they cannot be used to hurt other people. The little inflatable weapons would also have the Kelowna Knight's logo on them, and are meant to be used as a more unique thing to wave around in support of the Knights. 107 Words, +2 TPE 7. I think it is to no one's surprise that Maine Timber placed first and won the cup. They had an absolutely dominating season, and as per the deep dive that I wrote, we know they have leads in both individual player TPE, as well as the GM, Southpaw, being just really, really good at tactics. 55 words, + 1 TPE 8. Had Jauhnne Hawky not been drafted by the Kelowna Knights, he knew that the Quebec City Citadelles would have drafted him soon after. A bit funny that, since they were the team the Knights faced first in the playoffs. Had Jauhnne actually gone to Quebec, he probably would not have played his prefered role of center, but would play as a winger, as Quebec already had several experienced centers. He would probably make just as much of an impact on Quebec as he did on Kelowna, nothing too noteworthy, not making insane plays, but not dragging the team down either. Just average. 102 words, +2 TPE 9. There are some great names in the J, starting with the first one, James Howlett. I think it is a great name because the player is Wolverine, and that is his original name, of which he has forgotten. Great reference to the lore. I am particularly fond of my own player's name, that being Jauhnne Hawky. It is pronounced like "John Hockey", and combined with his generalist build I think it is a pretty funny joke. I also enjoy many of the pun names such as Pohler Beargeron or fun references like Smitty Werbenjaegermanjensen. Little jokes like these in players names makes the livestreams just a little more fun to watch. 111 Words, + 2 TPE 14. Jauhnne Hawky spends the first part of his offseason heading back to his hometown of Detroit Michigan. He is eager to see his parents again and tell them all about his rookie season, and how his team, the Kelowna Knights, made it all the way to the grand finals, but unfortunately were unable to win in the end. After spending some time with his family he would return back to his team nd continue his training regime. Offseason does not mean it is time to start slacking, Jauhnne has got to get a head start on the next season, he has to be the best he can be for his team. 111 words, + 2 TPE 15. Jauhnne Hawky, while visiting his parents in the offseason, would volunteer mainly his time at local ice rinks and other events to help promote hockey to the youth. He would also provide some funding to these places from his own pocket, after all he could afford it, but to him, having the ability to not only teach but inspire the many kids who want to play hockey is the important part. Due to his own abilities, he is also able to teach and guide anyone who wants to be a skater, whether they want to try and be a forward or defenseman, Jauhnne Hawky has something to teach them. 109 words, +2 TPE 16. I have a few goals for my player, Jauhnne Hawky. The first one is simple, do not be a detriment to his team. Sounds kind of obvious, but his build might change one's mind. I think it would be neat to leave a mark on the SHL's history, maybe like Bamford and be a player everyone remembers because of their funny build. As for me, Brenadyr, I do hope to get some sort of job that I would enjoy, it would be nice to contribute a bit more to the league and help it run smoothly, but also the income would be greatly appreciated. Looking Towards the Future The Raptors fell a little short in the post-season after finishing third in the regular season. But as I had written in my deep dive, when it would come down to the important games against tougher competition, the lack of defensive depth and goaltending would cost us in the end. Once again, I think the biggest needs for this team will be the same things as last season. With the loss of defenseman Bojan Miovski, it's even more important to find the right fit on the blue line. Goalie would still be the biggest issue for me. Timo Leppanen just finished his last year of eligibility and Tomas Suchanek will be in his last year, so I see the Raptors getting a top goalie this draft. With the Raptors owning the second and seventh overall picks in the draft, the Raptors should easily be able to find successful prospects that can help the team immediately. The biggest area of strength for the Raptors is on offense, where they are very young and have a huge amount of depth, boasting three full lines of active and growing players. They will be sad to see star forward Nathangus McExplosion go but I think they will be more than capable of competing. Hopefully, none of the veteran players going into their last season in the juniors gets the early call-up to the show. [230 words] +4 TPE Quote:12. On the Radar When asked about which player Marineau tries to emulate his game after, his response was quick. "Sidney Crosby", he said. "He was my hero growing up and I've always tried to study his game, how he skates, how he reads the game and how he handles himself." The 6-foot, 195-pound centreman is similarly built to his hero but more importantly, showcases a similar play style. His powerful lower body, strong passing, and hockey sense are all attributes that Marineau excels at. His skating and strength stand out when evaluating the young Frenchman. Although he likes to consider himself a playmaker, he can play a whole 200-foot game, which will translate relatively well to the SHL. He reads the game extremely well in all three phases of the ice, which is extremely important for a young player looking to establish himself amongst the best in the game. With the draft only days away, SHL teams should be picking up the phone to try and trade up for Marineau. Not only is he one of the best young talents in the draft but his off-the-ice locker room and leadership skills are second to none. Some scouts have been heard raving about Marineau's work ethic and character. It doesn't seem like a lot of teams have been contacting Marineau but this could be because they want to keep their cards close to their chest and not let any rumors spread. The highly anticipated rookie will look to engage with GMs and coaches in the next few days to further sell himself. [258 words] +5 TPE Quote:16. Goals Even though this is only my first season in the juniors, I think it's always fun to dream big. Coming back to the site after a long break, I'm back and more energized than ever. On goals for my player, I think on a fairly realistic level I can set my goals at the trifecta (a Challenge Cup champion, a Four Star Cup champion, and a gold medalist in the IIHF). I think if I have the long and successful career that I know I'm going to have, I can make a case for my second Hall of Fame player if I can get lucky enough to win. For personal player goals, I would be more than happy to win any awards in my career but more importantly use my leadership qualities to be a captain or assistant captain for my team. When it comes to the site, I think I can slowly start to get back into the swing of things and apply to some of the smaller tasks on the site. After some successful seasons with that, I want to try and do some co-gming again if I get a chance and build some good relationships. With the experience I have on the site, I think I can be a valuable asset to any team and any front office. I believe it’s important to take a long rest in between seasons because I don’t want to risk injury and I want to rest my mind and soul after a long season. Therefore, what I decide to do is travel to a specific location that changes every offseason that I coordinate with my family and friends. I have 1 separate trip for family and 1 separate trip for friends and I even try to see if the team will cover transportation and lounging cause, well, if they’re nice enough to give me a contract maybe they’ll be nice enough to cover some of my costs. When I travel, I like to go to restaurants and all the famous landmarks. I take it all in knowing that once the season starts I’ll have to lock in and focus on that instead. When I finish taking my vacations, I get started on pre-SHL draft scouting, including picking up on conversations that I have with scouts and thinking about optimal franchises for me to land with in the draft. I think about how to improve my game and how to be a better teammate. I am part of a groupchat with all my teammates where I share these ideas and listen to what they have to say. It’s good to keep the hockey chat going even in the offseason for it helps build teamwork and camaderie as well as building strength in each other and our own skills combined together to create one big force. 252 words -> 5 TPE 2. So I guess the draft already happened lol but I’ll still go over the Anchorage Armada and their needs this season as well as talk about how they filled those needs this offseason. The Armada had a great core in place entering the offseason with the defense full and some strong front-line stars still intact as well as myself. The main goal of the draft was to build up the forwards and make sure the depth was solidified. I believe the team did just that. They started with the trade for a premier forward that also has a couple years left of eligibility so the team did great to add an impact player who will help provide points on the board. In addition, in the actual draft the team selected Jay Dub, a left winger, so they did a good job shoring up the depth on that end of the rink and then they added some defensive insurance with a right defenseman in Aloysius Hoglord III which I thought was great because you can never have too much of a position. I think we should be in a strong position moving forward as the defensemen continue to grow in TPE and the forwards continue to be strong along with me becoming a more well-rounded player. I’m very excited to see how the next season unfolds especially with the season we had last season; hopefully we can build on that and go further in the playoffs than last season.
