Tip Toasty’s Post Draft Media Availability (2x draft media) - TipToasty - 09-30-2024

Tip Toasty steps up to the podium after being selected 34th and the second round of the SHL Season 79 Draft by the New England Wolfpack. Toasty is obviously in a good mood, but has a serious and determined air about him as he sits in front of a small group of local and national media. Toasty points to a reporter with his hand, raised in the first row.

Reporter “Hi Tip, Austin Globston of the Boston Globe. How do you feel about where you went in the draft today?“
Toasty: “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t expect to go a little bit higher. I was surprised when I did not hear my name in the upper 20s. I thought there might even be a chance I could make the first round, but this draft class was absolutely jammed full of talent. There are people who went after me that I didn’t expect to see so low on the draft boards. That said I landed exactly where I wanted to in New England. I think this is a great opportunity for me, and I couldn’t be more excited to join the Wolfpack.“
Austin Globston: “Follow up, are you saying you had a team you preferred to go to before the draft started? “
Toasty: “I don’t have ties to any teams in the SHL so I would’ve been happy to play anywhere. Obviously playing in the majors is a big shot. Any team that takes a chance on a yet-to-be-proven player is good by me. That said, I really liked my conversations with the New England management team. It seems like an organization that knows how to work with prospects, and at the same time knows how to compete and win cups. Obviously my goal is to bring home a cup one day, and over the next few years I’ll be working towards being a contributor to the Wolfpack next run.”

Reporter: “Hi Tip, Clarence Carter, Strokeville Times, it sounds like you’re plan includes an extended stay in the SMJHL. Does that mean you don’t plan on being called up anytime soon?”
Toasty: “No, I know I have plenty of room to grow and I’m excited to help push us higher in the standings next year. We showed our potential in the first round of the playoffs this year, and I think with four strong rookies who will definitely get better this off-season, we should be moving up the standings quickly next year. I think the call up is several seasons away, but that’s okay with me. I’m looking forward to working with the Wolfpack’s camps and being ready to step into a major role as soon as they have one for me. This team is still extremely competitive, and, when it’s my turn, I know we’ll still be seeking the top of the standings each season.”

Reporter: “Michael Bublé, Mycelium Reporter. Tell us about what it was like hearing your name called in the draft this year.”
Toasty: “I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I would be. I knew I would be somewhere in the first three rounds so it was just a practice patience. I actually took my dog for a hike as the draft was starting and listened over the headphones. Quick shout out to the broadcast crew for making the event even more exciting. That said, as soon as we got back to the car, my name was called. My dog, Sue, didn’t really seem to care, but it was definitely a cool experience for me to catch broadcast and hear all of the positive things people had to say about me.”

Reporter: ”Hi Tip, Weirdy Beard from the Thunder Bay Chronicle. What does the off-season look like for you? There’s still a few weeks before preseason starts.“
Toasty “Yeah, I hit training pretty hard early on, so I think the rest of the off-season will be about getting mentally prepared. Spending some time outdoors. I already went hiking at Olympic National Park and we’ll see what we can fit in before the season starts. I’ve also been practicing transcendental meditation. The Gateway Method. Read a book. Of course we have some occasional scouting for Thunder Bay as well. I’m looking forward to seeing who joins us in Thunder Bay next year. I’m focused on bringing a Cup to Thunder Bay, along with my fellow S79 draftees and the incoming class joining us next weekend.
“While I’m on the subject, big shout out to Teddy, Puddles, and Chaos for

Reporter: “Hey Tip, James Snoopmore, free agent. It has obviously been an exhausting draft day for you. How do you plan to wind down tonight? “
Toasty: “Beans.”
James: “Can you elaborate?”
Toasty: “No.”
Toasty stands up and waves at the press, who seem very confused because none of them were taking photos. He walks off stage and out a door directly to the parking lot. The door is one that does not swing shut automatically, so reporters watch Toasty get in his ‘95 Chevy Caprice and peel out of the parking lot. Thunder Bay representatives scramble to shut the door and wrap up with reporters.
