New Found Success In Newfoundland - YetiTaz - 11-01-2024 Take a look at the standings and you will see the rise of the Newfoundland Berserkers. Right at the top, just below the Quebec City Citadelles, tied with the champion Maine Timber. A vastly improved team. Last season's Newfoundland team finished with a losing record. This season, the Berserkers are getting contributions from all angles and improved goaltending that has made this team truly a team. The two stars, The Great One and Jason Bourne, have joined up with the big trade acquisition of the offseason, Pohler Beargeron, to form a deadly front line. These three have combined for 65 goals and 112 assists. Then, on the defensive side, we have Big Sweg at +32 and Ivan Ivanovitch at a +30. But the team doesn't stop with those five. Emeric Gagner, who came over from Kelowna with Beargeron, has 19 goals and 33 assists. Add Jett Labyrinth to the mix and that is five skaters who have over 50 points with still 20 games left to play. The Berserkers currently have 10 skaters with 30 or more points. Showing that the role players are making their contributions as well as their main stars. And let's talk about Katharina Rosenthal. So far, in 31 games, Rosenthal has a record of 19-8-3. Rosenthal had 22 wins in 48 games last season. Katharina is on course to obliterate that number. Save percentage has increased by exactly 1 point (89.4 to 90.4), putting the Berserker goalie seventh in the J. And what an improvement in goals against, from 3.53 to 2.85, which is tops in the J. Rosenthal is also tied for fourth in the J in wins and is fifth in goals saved above average at 10.50. Rosenthal is also tied for first place in the J with 2 shutouts. Katharina Rosenthal has got to be in the conversation for Goalie of the Year. "Credit goes to our leadership," Ima Noobie said following the 7-0 win over Kelowna. "Our coaching and training has put us in a great position to succeed." The optimism is high in Newfoundland. "We want it all," said Noobie. "We want The Cup!"
