S79 MTL PLAYOFF PUSH - amjohnson636 - 11-07-2024

Wow.

I really did not think I would be writing this but ladies and gentlemen, the Pats have a chance at the playoffs. Before we dive into the future, we should take a brief look at the past as MTL went 3-1 today in the sim. This included a win over a playoff side in NOLA (who absolutely railed me for betting the over on them) where the Pats doubled up their French influenced companions. Further in a game against Chicago, one of the teams lower in the standings, MTL was resilient as we battled back from a three to nothing deficit in the first period to take the game by two goals in a goalie's nightmare of a score: 8-6. The following game was against Minnesota, a team who we are right behind in TPE and a team that should make the playoffs due to the Western Conference being so polarized points wise. The entire game we were on point as we shut down any sort of offense Minnesota attempted to generate as we held them to no goals, meanwhile, the Pats netted five of their own. We also lost to a really strong side in Calgary 6-3 but we aren't going to talk about that! Also of note is Chopper (my player) is finally beginning to show promise at the higher level as the goon himself has generated a myriad of points over the last few games.

Now onto the future, MTL is 3 points behind Manhattan as the Eastern Conference is much less forgiving to teams that earn less points in comparison to the West. While we are 3 points behind, we have 3 games in hand as we have 4 more games to play while MAN only has one. Manhattan was one of the two teams that scouted me, so I guess I have a soft spot for them. That being said hopefully their rage is subdued and they hang up the skates early this year. MAN's final game is at home against a Toronto side sitting at third in the conference. Knowing that TOR is a legitimate contender for the cup, and currently vying for a higher seed, I believe the North Stars will bring their best game to the yanks and hopefully defeat them. Even if MAN loses their final game MTL has some work to do in we want to make the playoffs. Our final four games are nothing to brush off as we play at New England, then finish with a homestand against Seattle, Atlanta, and finish versus Calgary. Every game we have left is against a playoff side. That really isn't saying much since all but four teams make the post-season, but still, it shows that the Pats will need to battle if they want to get into the playoffs. If Manhattan drops the game to Toronto, MTL only needs 4 points to surpass the Rage. If the Rage win on the other hand, MTL will need to generate 5 points (I think the tie breaker is goal differential and we currently lead them by 5 goals), or if we don't have the tie breaker then we will need to make 6 points happen in our last 4 games. I have faith the Pats can make the playoffs this year and continue to do so in future season as we are on a meteoric rise.

We will find out if my speculation is worth any weight tomorrow afternoon! (At least for me, sorry EU peeps enjoy your night game)
