S79 Calgary "weekly" review (entire season and playoffs) - Juho - 12-03-2024

Okay so since i have had no motivation to do media for some time due to me focusing on other stuff like me playing hockey irl and school s79 regular season will be only stats and a few games i found interesting but playoffs i will do game by game. Also for context even tho im writing this after all the stuff i will act like i don’t know nothing about the future

Starting off with my interesting games first off we go with the season opener buffalo vs calgary 3-2 OTW now this sure was a interesting opening game going to OT and all. With fredrik gronlund scoring the OT winner unassisted MVP of the game: Arthur kaliyev with both non OT Goals

Edmonton vs calgary 10-2 W now these are the kind of rivalry games what are favoring calgary with 10 goals for calgary and only 2 for edmonton MVP of the game:literally wizard with 5 points

Still keeping the battle of alberta theme but now with a game what would be really interesting to watch edmonton vs calgary 7-6OTW who doesn’t love high scoring games what are really close and what also went to OT the game sure was something specially with a spectacular comeback from edmonton at the 3rd period scoring 4 goals MVP of the game: literally wizard with a hat trick

Now with a few games dealt with i think we will jump into the standings and player stats
Firstly calgary placed fairly good in the SHL placing in the 5th position in the league 4th in the conference and 3rd in the division what is really funny like 5th in the league but still 3rd in the division like the pacific division is really strong along with that we will face the panthers in the faceoffs first hopefully it will turn out to be a good series for calgary

Now onto player stats
It seems the solberg sisters are starting to play well together specially since they were moved to the first line now frøya solberg leads the team with 90 points along with leading the team in goals with 41 with sonja solberg right behind with 86 points and leading the team in assist with 55 if the sisters can be kept in calgary i could very well see them going for calgarys first and second in all time points
Also 3rd in the team in points was literally a wizard with 76 points thats almost 10 less points then in 2nd place
In the defender side sven holmberg leads the defenders with 46 points and cheeks klapanen leads in goals with 14
Most icetime also got sven holmberg with 23 minutes and a single second and for forwards with was sonja solberg with 22 minutes and 7 seconds

Now moving onto playoffs starting with LA panthers vs Calgary dragons

Game 1 2-4 Loss that was expected we were facing a better team so a loss is to be expected hopefully we can win some games further along the series and maybe even win it MVP of the game: Anastasia Söderström with 29 saves from 32 shots (LA made one empty net goal) making a 91% save procent

Game 2 4-2 win now this is the exact opposite score with us wining 4-2 instead of losing also now the series is tied 1-1 and we are moving onto calgary MVP of the game: Arthur kaliyev with 1 goal and 1 assist

Game 3 4-1 win another victory for calgary dragons now 4-1 instead of 4-2 this series seems to have every single game end with 4 goals for the winning team lets see if this trend keeps up also the series is now 2-1 for calgary
MVP of the game: Anastasia söderström with 24 saves on 25 shots making a 96% save procent

Game 4: 7-2 Win well it seems the trend of the winning team winning with 4 goals ends today but not the trend of the losing team scoring 2 or less goals also calgary has been playing really well today hopefully they could reach the medal games (Medal games is a term in finland for reaching the top 4 since you will play in either the finals winning gold or silver or in the bronze medal game what explains itself)

Game 5: 5-4W we have done we have done it calgary wins a playoff series what haven’t been done with the new management and the last time it has been won was 9 seasons ago in s70 so now calgary proceeds to the second round where we will be facing SFP so another tough opponent what beat winnipeg 4-0 returning to the game it was a close one but luckly anna skovgaard scores with 3 minutes left in the 3rd making sure calgary wins the game MVP of the game: Sonja solberg with 3 points

Since im writing this after the playoffs sadly no series 1 playoff stats so we will be moving onto san fransisco pride facing calgary dragons in round 2

Game 1: 2-9 Loss okay this was quite something i expected the first series to go and specially now against the pride but hopefully we can make some sort of comeback and win 1-2 games MVP of the game: Jennifer huh who scored the goal making us take the lead for about 13 minutes

Game 2 2-5 loss and another bad game right after the first its starting to seem like its joeover and we will lose the series 4-0 just like winnipeg did MVP of the game: kaarlo koivunen with a single goal

Game 3 4-2 Win okay now this removes the possibility of a sweep and hopefully in the future it will lead to more victories MVP of the game: Arthur kaliyev with 2 goals

Game 4 6-5 W okay a close game and holy shit this game has like 110 shots total like what the fuck was the defence for both sides doing allowing all these shots but luckly calgary was able to win the game with 1 more goal this also ties the series 2-2 MVP of the game: Thomas pedersen with 3 points

Game 5 9-5 Loss okay so we allowed 6 goals in the first if we just completely ignore that we would have won the game but sadly we can’t Pride also takes the lead in the series 3-2 MVP of the game: frøya solberg with 2 points

Game 6 4-2 win the series is going to game 7 we have officially taken the pride the winner of regular season (and this seasons champions) into game 7 that is an achievement if we don’t win the cup this season the future seems bright for calgary and i would say 3 seasons in the cup is visiting calgary MVP of the game: literally a wizard with 2 points

Game 7 5-3 loss sadly the tale ends here but hey it was nice to make it to game 7 against the pride and if this continues we might even make it to the finals and maybe even win it in the future but we will see MVP of the game: jennifer huh with 2 points

Now moving onto playoff stats
The leading pointsman is frøya solberg with 16 points and coming right behind him is sonja solbberg and literally a wizard with 15 points i would also like to say all 3 of them have 5 goals and sonja and wizard have 10 assists while frøya has 11 leading the assist with sunrise van de SCHUBBEKUTTEVEEN in goals jennifer huh is leading with 6 goals and on the defender side cheeks klapanen is leading defender points and goals with 13 points and 5 goals the player with the most ice time is frøya solberg with 23 minutes and 14 seconds and for the defence its sven holmberg with 22 minutes and 42 seconds

Now this marks the end of s79 hopefully in the future the cup will be going to calgary but only time will tell that GO DRAGONS! Dragons
