Deep Dive #2 - Hodor - JuOSu - 01-06-2025 I was briefly tempted to make this 500 words of "Hodor" but I assume that would (rightfully) get rejected. Hodor was always a player I looked up to. We were going for similar builds partially and similar records. As it stands, before this current season, I was 2nd all time in shots blocked and he was third, just one behind me. It is obvious that he will end up far ahead of me though, probably even ahead of the current record holder Slip McScruff, who is still over 1,000 more shots blocked ahead of us. But Hodor has a chance I think. From the beginning, Hodor was the quintessential Defensive Defender to me. He had so many shots blocked every season. Even as a rookie he had 291. He has had over 300 every season since then until last season. That is 8 seasons in a row of 300 blocks or more. His highest was 363, among the best seasons ever in that category. But with all the strength Hodor has as a shot blocker and the chase of the record, has he really been all that recognized? He has been in the 3rd team all star team three times, never higher than that. He has never won, never even NOMINATED for the best Defender award. Even in the award that i see him as the favorite, the Bojo Biscuit award for the best Defensive Defenseman, he has only won it twice, with three more seasons of being a nominee. I obviously understand that shots blocked are only a part of being a good defender, even a good defensive defender, but I was definitely surprised to see this. Just two of those awards with the seasons he has had seems painfully low to me. But still, what a career Hodor has had for that Texas Renegades team. And the Texas team has been excellent in this time, making the playoffs every season that Hodor has played for them. But again, is that success really all there? Despite the great run of seasons, Texas has never won a championship with Hodor, making the final only once in that time frame, while going out in the first round four times. Shots blocked and Hodors success are certainly a big part of the strength of Texas, but I guess maybe in this league, defense doesn't always win you a championship either. Texas will once again make the playoffs this season, currently sitting in a decent 9th position. But 9th far from guarantees any playoff success. Will they be able to escape the first round? Probably. But is a championship finally on the table for Hodor and the Renegades? I am not quite sure I feel strongly that it will happen for them this year. But still, he should have a few seasons left. Hopefully Hodor can win a title still in his career and maybe get some more recognition too before his eventual path to the Hall of Fame (where he should absolutely end up!). I mean even the shot blocks alone should get him there, if he breaks the record. But still, he has put together a great career! RE: Deep Dive #2 - Hodor - bbjygm - 01-06-2025 Hodor!
