Aleksandr Iskandrov
@aleks

A first round pick to Hamilton back in S65, Aleksandr is another great example of the S64-S66 peak that these lists have. First starting his career in S68, by the time S70 rolled around he was already rolling in the league. On a rebuilding Hamilton team, Aleks had the best opportunity to do great in the league. With S70 showed him on PP1, scoring 35 goals, and 81 points that season. S71  was no different, scoring 70 points over that time. However, as Hamilton was starting to get better, the points came in more. WIth a career high in points and goals this season. Aleks scored 41 goals and 101 points that season. His first 100+ effort.

S73 was a replication, though 31 goals and 70 assists for 101 points again. S74 would be an even better season for Aleks, scoring 41 goals again, but with 4 more assists leading to 105 points. A career high so far, his best +/- in a season, helping lead Hamilton to a winning season.

S75 he would have both career goals and points on the season. Scoring 59 goals and 112 points for this season. This is why Aleks was so high up on the list. Being Nominated for both the Ron Mexico, Sarmad Khan, and making 1st All Star Team. This was the Peak of what Aleks would offer. After that he came back down from earth after a 4 season peak. Scoring 83,65, and 70 points in the next 3 seasons. Before getting traded in S79 to San Francisco, where he won his only Challenge Cup With the Pride.

Christian Kinsinger
@Symmetrik
An older player on this list, however a super deserving one at best. A S62 draftee, Kinsinger was one of the best defenseman between S69-S74. Playing all of his time in Winnipeg, Kinsinger was a dominant force on the Aurora Blueline during their peak time. In S69 where Kinsinger was nominated for the Stevens and 1st All Star team. That did not count in these ranking. However S70 did.

Kinsinger in S70 set a record that help up all decade. Most goals and points scored by a defenseman in a season. With 28 goals, 55 assists for 83 points. Christian was the best defenseman hands down. Nothing more to say other than that it was one of the best seasons by a defenseman ever. Winning the Scott Stevens and was on the 1st all star team. S71 he followed it up with 72 points that season. 25 goals and 47 assists. Leading to his 2nd Scott Stevens nomination that decade. Along with 2nd All Star team. The 72 points was good for 10th in points in the decade by a defenseman. If it wasn't for Borje Samuelsson’s 81 points that season, it would have been his 2nd Stevens win of that decade.

S72 he would have another excellent season. 27 goals, 38 assists for 65 points. Having 3 20+ goal seasons in a row by a defenseman was otherworldly at times. But Christian was able to do it. However the monkey paw curls for everyone, and he felt that. In S73 he had 39 assists… and only 4 goals that season. For a fine 42 assists. However that was his first season without PP1 time in a while, and it hit him hard. S74 he was brought back to PP1, scoring 14 goals and 54 assists that season. His shot blocking started to slow down as well.

Starting in S70 he was able to get between 130-150 shots blocked a season. A fine number for the amount of points he was able to generate as an offensive defenseman. However in S74 he dropped all the  way down to 108. Being taken off PP1 duties. It takes a toll on the regressing defenseman.

S76 would be his last great season in Winnipeg. Being put on Pp1 for the last time, he made the most of it. Scoring one final 50+ point season with 51 points, and 17 goals as well. He would retire in the S78 season. 5 50+ point seasons in the 70’s, Christian was a premier defenseman on a dominant Winnipeg Team.

Shoyo Hinata
@Gordon Bombay

Like Kinsinger, Shoyo was a S62 draft class to Atlanta, and he peaked in the early S70’s, and had a graceful fall in the back half of the decade. Starting off in S70, Shoyo put up 112 points that season. His first of 5 100+ point seasons. Securing a 3rd all star team, This was the first taste of what Shoyo would bring to Atlanta this decade.

An All Star for the Inferno, he would continue the dominance, being the top center for the team. A 53 goal, 107 point season in S71, he would make the 2nd All star team that season. 2 seasons in and he already had 2 50+ goals and 2 100+ point seasons. S72 would be his first step back, with only 89 points that season. Which for most players would be an amazing season, for Shoyo it was a bump in the road for something special.

In S73, Shoyo would have another great season. Scoring 57 goals and 116 points. That would be the peak points for him in his career. Earning an 2nd All Star Team that season. S75 would be an equally as impressive season. Scoring a career high 61 goals and a total of 115 points. This would be Shoyo’s best season in terms of the numbers. Almost a goal per game pace, he was once again on the 2nd All Star, but a Ron Mexico nomination that season. S75 would be his final 100+ point season, with 103 points and a 47 goal campaign.

S76 was his last season above a PPG for Atlanta, and his last on PP1. Scoring 75 points that season, the next season he would only crack 60 points. As regression set in and more of a depth player, he was able to finish the decade at a good 51 & 57 point seasons.

5 100+ point seasons is insane to look at. For the decade, Shoyo was 2nd in goals for the decade with 406. And only 1 of 3 players to crack 200 goals. Right place and the right time. Shoyo was able to capitalize, and be a great player for Atlanta.

Brick Wall
@brickwall35

The shortest career on the Top 70. Brick wall is the exception to the rule. Most of his career was in the S60’s, Brick Wall was a S62 draft class guy. And played 6 seasons in the S60’s before the S70’s. However those first couple of seasons were elite for Brick Wall. Starting off in S70, he was able to go 35-17-2 on the season, 4 shutouts and a .906 SV%. Earning him 2nd All Star, and a John McBride Nomination that season.

S71 he upped his game again, having the best season of his career as a starter in the league. Going 38-15-1, he recorded 5 shutouts and a .914 SV%. Getting 1st All Star team, Winning the Mike Honcho award and the John McBride. Brick Wall wasnt done yet.

S72 he would have an equally good season. Winning 35 games for Montreal, he had 6 shutouts and a .910 SV%. He was able to get on the 1st All Star Team as well as winning his 2nd John McBride of the decade, and 2nd Honcho of the decade. 2 McBride Wins in 3 seasons. With another nomination as well. S73 he moved to Atlanta as montreal started to rebuild, where he put a respectable 18-34-2, with a .902 SV% for Atlanta before retiring.

Brick Wall is here because of the award wins. Back to back Honcho + McBride wins. Plus another McBride Nomination. Brick Wall’s short decade was well impacted.

Anthony Dionne
@Anthique

On the flip side of Brick Wall, Dionne had a traditional approach to how goalies operated in the decade. Drafted on a rebuilding Texas team in the S60’s, Dionne was the star goalie on a great Texas team for the decade. S70 & S71 was nothing to write home about, Texas was coming out of the rebuild, and Dionne was ok as well.

S72 however is when things started to change. Dionne had his first winning season, going 32-17-5 and a solid .902 SV%. Both him and Texas started to do well. S73 things would slip a little. Only 27-22-4 with a .885 SV%. In S74 he would rebound back into being a solid goalie on a solid Texas team. Winning a career high at the time 33-16-5 with .899 SV%.

S75 would be his best season of his career. Going 35-15-4, with 4 shutouts and a solid .902 SV%. Dionne was able to win the Honcho award for least amount of goals allowed. Was on the 2nd All Star team, and was a McBride nominee for that season. S76 he had a career high in wins with 36, and a very solid .900 SV% that season.

His last really good season came in S78, where he went 34-11-3, 6 shutouts and a .899 SV%. Winning the Mike Honcho for the 2nd time in his career. His 295 wins over the decade is good for 4th most wins for that time. Super solid goalie on a great Texas team. Dionne is the last player before we get into the top 30 on this list.

Most shocking stat, Anthony Dionne and his amazing career has never been a 1st All Star! Too many good goalies in the West.
