Please pick ONE prompt to write about. Do not mix and match prompts. Identify the prompt you are using in your submission - Copying and pasting the prompt will deduct from your word count so if you do this make sure YOUR submission is 150+ words excluding the prompt.

Written Option 1: As your player is staying at the hotel during one of the roadtrips they get to share a room with one of the younger players of the team and notice that they spend almost all of their freetime playing videogames, either on phone or they brought a gaming device with them. It hasn’t impacted their game to the level to have coaches worried, at least yet, but your player thinks it might become problem in the long term if their focus ins’t on the right place. But is that something your player should do something about? Do they take it up with the coaching staff or do they think keeping it just between you two might be the way to go? Maybe the gaming device just disappears from the hotel room? Or does your player just ask for new roommate for next away game and leave it to be someone elses problem? Maybe they join them in the game and hope that everything just works out all right? What does your player do and how does the situation resolve?

Graphic Option 1: Create a box art for SHL 82 video game, must feature player that is not your own.

Written Option 2: SHL has always had RPG elements, at least in form of player progression, but there could be room to add lot more. There are countless of RPGs out there with very different systems that are designed for varying styles of games which should mean that there would be multiple interesting things we could loan from these systems to mix things up. What would you bring over from one or multiple RPG games to SHL to make things more interesting? Skills, classes, madness, feats etc. How would they best be implemented to SHL?  (If you aren’t familiar with any RPGs, what would you bring from any board- or videogames?

Graphic Option 2: Create an image of your player if they were RPG character or image of their character sheet.

Written Option 2: Well clearly the SHL should implement a trait system, probably for either money or TPE. This could be in a form that mimics a Pokemon or SMT style "move pool", a limited selection of special abilities the player has, or it could be in more of a Pathfinder/D&D-esque "feat" system, where taking certain things just made your player better at some niche aspect. In fact, FHM has a traits system already, so as long as pricing and availability can be figured out, it shouldn't even be a mere fantasy. Of course, the other big thing in many RPGs is getting experience for winning fights, so... clearly, the SHL should do the ultimate move and implement this. Hockey has fighting, FHM has fighting. Make winning fights give 'exp', and each 'level up' gives a small amount of bonus TPE. Suddenly you've implemented a funny new mechanic for the league AND made fighting more attractive to the players who want it!

Option 2

I think an interesting RPG concept to add to the SHL would be an experience based leveling system to provide a choice of perks to a player as they age. I think the best possible way to implement this would be to tie it together with all the currently static mental attributes of a player. As the SHL currently stands, there are 5 mental attributes for each player that remain at 15 throughout their entire career. The experience system could give players the opportunity to put a point into one of these attributes for every 2 seasons they spend in the league. This would mean a veteran player who has regressed down to 1200 TPE would bring actual leadership or professionalism to the team more than a 1200 TPE player entering their second season. Of course I don't know enough about how the sim works to know if these five mental attributes would be balanced with one another or if some would be much more useful than others, but I think overall the idea of players gaining mental stats as they gain experience in the league would be a neat mechanic to add to the SHL.

Option 1: When Ebbe first dropped his bag down on the hotel room floor, he noticed it right away. His rookie roommate was already locked in — staring at his phone, video games blasting on the TV. At first, Ebbe didn’t think too much of it. Everyone needs a way to relax, especially on the road. But after a few days, he realized it was the same thing every free minute — no team hangouts, no little walks, no talking about the games.
Ebbe understood. When he was a rookie, it had been easy to get lost in the screen too, just to quiet the nerves. But he had also learned that you need balance to stay sharp — both on and off the ice.
One evening, Ebbe sat down on the edge of his bed and said, calmly and with a small smile:
"Hey, I get it, man. I used to do the same thing when I was new. But sometimes it helps to put the phone away, hang out with the boys, go for a walk, talk a little about the games. It makes you better — not just at hockey, but at everything."
He grinned and added:
"Come on, let’s go downstairs, grab a coffee with the team. You’re part of the family now."
For Ebbe, it wasn’t about lecturing — it was about helping, just like John Gibson, Océane Söderberg-Tremblay, and Olafur Atlason had once helped him when he was new.

Option 1:

K.J Daniels loves to communicate with his teammates, no matter the circumstances or bad blood between them. He will confront the player, keeping it short and simple. He wants to know the underlying reason why he plays video games often, and the possible resolutions to make both parties happy. He understands the need for video games, because K.J loved to play video games when he was a young child, using them to relax his brain after tough matches. However, he grew out that phase, receiving more responsibilities as an adult.

K.J loves to solve internal problems, not allowing any external voices or people into the mess. He's a compatible player, willing to take the sacrifice to make it work for everyone. He'll schedule outside training with his roommate, creating lasting bonds & earning his friendship. If he's really irritated, he will talk to the coach and report the situation to him.

Option 1: As a fellow teammate I would ask what game that my teammate is playing, if he's playing a game that I also enjoy than I might play with him however once it gets closer to game time I would tell him to lay off the game and get in the zone.

I know this league is hard. Traveling isn’t always easy and it’s a lot to get used to. The last thing I want to do is make an enemy out of my teammate or make them feel alienated. Sure, I’m young too but I’ve never been really one of those video game addicted guys that tend to be from my generation. Seeing some of my teammates on these games all the time might make one think that they are not as focused as they should be, but I see it as just somebody unwinding and trying to clear their headspace and make sure they’re in the right mindset. We’ve all been there. So what did I do? I played the video games with them! It ended up being a team bonding moment and the type of thing you remember even thought it might have seemed trivial. I feel that we all cleared our heads!

Written option 2:

I’ll be that guy, the SHL has roleplay and combat, what it needs to complete the holy Trinity of RPGs is simple -

Exploration.

Basically, we need to give the Zamboni a set of wings, and expand the setting of each arena deep into the bowels of the earth and high into the clouds above. We need varying environments and host games playing with anti-gravity skates on the sides and roof of the  Hôtel du Glacé. We need players to put on dry suits and play on the *underside* of a lake, or maybe on the field of a pitched battle - hear me out here, right, imagine that the puck is held in an intimidating fortress by a small group of the opponent’s players, and one team needs to break into that place to secure a takeaway - it’s nasty, brutal, they need a powerful player to smash down the doors, and the penalty killing team on the inside has every advantage to forestall the inevitable, but if they can? Then the entire rest of the team can come smashing down the other side of the arena with this one old guy in white and rescue their other team members and we could get Howard Shore to write the music for it and hey where’d you get that knife?

Option 2

I think it would be fun if we could add special skills or abilities to the SHL. As a player ages and gains more experience should learn a skill or ability and even though the player is regressing gets to keep it. Below are a few examples.

Hot Shot
Player gains +2 shooting accuracy for the duration of the shift after landing a hit or blocking a shot.

Genius Leader
Player has +1 to offensive read and defensive read when being a captain or assistant captain.

Homeboy
Player gains +1 to 3 random skills when playing at home.

Second Wind
Player regains 5% stamina during each intermission.

Honey Pot
Player has a 10% chance to attract one penalty call against the opposing team during the game.

Fun Lovin Criminal
Player has an increased chance to force a turnover and when he does gains +3 in stickchecking.

Acrobat
Goaltender has an increased chance to stop a penalty shot and/or breakaway.

Prompt 2

Picture this: alongside their sporting attributes, players are also asked to assign innate personal attributes that determine their personality and reactions that determine how they may interact with the site and other users. Something more like Disco Eleysium as we don't have any sort of combat mechanic... Yet. To this point, instead of roles, we could introduce subclasses for each position that define exactly how points may be applied, while allowing certain upgrades and items to be purchased. Maybe, a player could even subclass.

Otherwise, players could also purchase rogue-like sorts of items that offer significant upside, coupled with some drawbacks. What if after a player reaches certain milestones on the ice, they could buy items like: the 'TPE Converter' (an item which converts points scored directly into TPE, with the downside of not allowing players to claim TPE from PTs or CW/All-Star Week), or the 'Brute's Bag' which gives variable boosts to a player's attributes over the season based on the number of penalty minutes a player accumulates; more time in the bin, the better they get.

RE: S82 PT #2: It's In The Game - Prayl07 - 04-28-2025

Option 1:

After early season struggles, Anchorage took all solo rooms from the senior players and roomed them with rookies to build some type of bond. The next road trip Patrick got off the bus and headed up to their room and didn't see anyone. He thought Anchorage came to their senses and gave him a private room. Right before he threw his bag down on the extra bed he heard a voice "HEY I'm here!". After close inspection Patrick saw defender Kameron Urchin-Mullen @hotdog . Patrick knew KUM was a more quiet player. He wanted to always be in his room alone. But, Patrick saw the chance to help out a loner.

He sat on his bed and talked to the tiny sea urchin. He talked about how well he had been playing and suggested that if he would join the team for more team outings it would do him well. KUM told Patrick that he always enjoys his quiet time. He likes to have time to himself to relax. That he knows how to play with himself and struggles playing with others.

After a bit of a back and forth Patrick didn't feel the need to keep beating to get KUM to come out, with the team. Patrick then told the sea urchin to just keep the room clean and there would be no issues.
