But we are here today to talk to Emma Watson and all her talent that her 6'4 bold frame brings to the table. Emma Watson, who is the first British player that brings exceptional skills, is getting ready for the upcoming NWJHL draft day that is running jitters down every prospects' back. The NWJHL Insider team had an opportunity to interview the Paris native center about her current success and her future in her hockey career. Ladies and gentlemen, Emma Watson. TNI: Do you feel you have met your expectations this year on where you want to be physically? Do you feel you can be better? Watson: "I have been training with an old legend's trainer this off season to get in the best available shape I can. Yes, Sergei Karpotsov's old trainer has been pushing me to the limit. The workouts have been agonizing to me but it has really been paying off. I feel great, both physically and mentally. But you can not make excuses, you have to always be training. You have to push yourself further and further." TNI: When you get drafted into the NWJHL, do you think you can make an impact right off the bat? Watson: "Yah, of course I think I can! I think my off season training will make me an impact player right away. I do not think I am too far behind the current NWJHL players when it comes to physical shape. I think I can become that go-to-girl this year, you know? I want to be the type of player that the team looks to, to score that clutch goal, or to be sent out on the ice to defend a lead in the last minute. And I really think I can achieve that this year." TNI: What do you think is the biggest difference between this year and last year in terms of your personal success? Watson: "I think last year I was more of a humble person, and just stood back quietly in the locker room and let my play do the talking. But this year, I plan on taking more of a leadership role. I will be more vocal when it comes to cheering my team on and pumping their tires. I guess my personality really came out to play this year. No one would suspect me of being a quiet person nowadays. This year I have kind of been the girl everyone looks to. So, you know just the added responsibility and knowing that I have to play good every night I think that has contributed a lot to my success this year." TNI: Did you learn a lot playing and training with the likes of Jed Mosley and Harry Potter in the past years? Watson: "They have the same trainer as I do, so when I got to train with those guys it was really a big treat for me. I think I obtained a lot of experience and a ton of skills from those guys and they are obviously amazing players and they have both departed on now to their dreams; the SHL. We played on the same minor team as well, but of course I was the young-gun while they were leading the charge. And for them to show me the ropes was awesome. It is a lot different now though. I have grown and have taken the leadership role that they taught me. But I am enjoying it too and I am trying to be that type of player now, be a leader, like they were for me. I still keep in contact with them and I am still learning from them when we start training in the off season again." Post-workout, Emma looks beat. TNI: Did you have a favorite SHL player growing up? Watson: "I always admired that Jeff Dar guy, he was a hunk! And of course the legendary Sergei Karpotsov. Their talent is unmatched and I will always see them as the face of the SHL. Not only did they have supreme talent, but they were great leaders too. These are two guys that I always looked up to." TNI: Is there, or was there someone in the SHL, such as Sergei Karpotsov, in which you have tried to play your game after? Watson: "Well I always tried to mimic Sergei Karpotsov's play. But it would be tough for me to match my game after him, nobody quite plays like the way he did. His talent is unmatched. Nowadays, there are a lot of players that are younger and coming up into the SHL that I look to for some guidance. I think players like Harry Potter like I mentioned earlier, who is a defensive forward master mind , and those guys that are more offensive like Ron Mexico are guys I look to copy. They are not only good offensively, but defensively as well. They have extreme talent, they glide down the ice so swiftly and move the puck so fluidly; I think players like that is what I try to model my game after." TNI: We heard you were a big Khan fan too! How would you compare yourself to the former LA Panther and current Hall of Famer center Sarmad Khan? Watson: "Well of course he was an outstanding dangler; a much better dangler than I am, but something I am continuously trying to improve on. I think he is a very talented player; he is so good at putting the puck in the net and he had that power forward-esque game that I always admired. He hit, he scored, he played great defense. So that is something I would be looking forward to bring to my future team in the NWJHL." TNI: Looking at the Season 11 NWJHL coming, have you had much contact with any of the teams' GMs? Watson: "Well, when I went to the scouting combine I had so many NWJHL GMs approach me and asked me if I would be interested in playing for them. I guess they really liked what they saw. But other than that, it has been pretty relaxed. I have not had much contact with any teams after the combine. Maybe only one or two teams have came forward expressing interest since then. I would not consider myself too wide open though. I am sure the teams that have approached me at the combine are still very much interested." TNI: Do you think you will go high in the draft or will you fall down to the lower rounds? Watson: "I think for myself to fall out of the first round is highly unlikely. Like I said, many teams were interested in my player. Plus I have great connections with players who are currently playing for the Whalers, so I do not think I will fall anything short of the top 5. But if I am to go into the lower rounds, I will not be disappointed at all. I know my attitude might be kind of a turn off for some teams, but hey that is the kind of person I am and I probably won't change. I wll be happy as long as I get drafted. And other teams will dread if they let me slip. I really think they will regret it once they see the talent I will bring and the leadership I can uphold in a locker room. My public personality is not at all accurate to my professional one that I will bring in the locker room. I think that I have worked hard this off season and it will pay off and I am going to try and show that I am better than where I was picked. Even if I was picked first overall :3" Emma's reaction when asked how she would feel falling out of the first round. TNI: How was your first training camp experience with all the other prospects? Watson: "Oh, it was extravagant! It was kind of a bit overwhelming when stepping out on the ice with guys that had the same kind of motivation to be the first overall pick. Everyone had their game face on, but got more mellow once you got out there with players like Alicia Keys and Roman Shultz and stuff. So it was a really good experience for me and I am looking forward to going to the NWJHL with these guys and sitting by them, awaiting to hear our names be called to the podium." TNI: Have you kept in contact with any prospects since the end of training camp? Watson: "I have actually! I met some neat people and have done some partying with a few of them. I have been in contact with Donini. He is a great player and even a better person off the ice. And Abraham was a character too. I have been up to my shenanigans with them and I am glad I met them. I wish them the best luck at the draft! " TNI: Do you keep in contact with any other friends who are playing in the SHL or NWJHL, such as Draco Malfoy? Watson: "Haha although she has not entered the NWJHL yet, there is Alicia Keys. Alicia Keys and I played minor hockey growing up against each other and have been playing against each other for years. We have been best friends for a while now. So I keep in touch with her all the time. She is kind of off the radar at the moment as she is busting it at the gym. But I assure all teams she will be there come the day of the NWJHL draft. Also, as mentioned earlier, I have seen a good sum of Harry Potter and Jed Mosley during training, and also saw them at camp! I guess they were just curious about this years NWJHL draft. I hung out with them and it is good to see them have such great seasons in the SHL. It makes it easier going into the NWJHL draft when you have players to hang out with and players you know. Unfortunately I have not seem Draco. He kind of disappeared :'3" TNI: How far away do you think you are from the pro level? Watson: "I think that solely it depends on how hard I work. If I train hard enough during the NWJHL season and if I have a good year I will be in the SHL in no time. I am already set for the NWJHL and I think I can be one of the best this year. But in comparison to the SHL, I have lots of things to work on, but I would like to be there in the big leagues next year (after a season in the NWJHL), if not then the year after. If I get stronger and faster I could be right there playing with my old friends Mosley and Potter." TNI: Thanks Emma! Any final words before the NWJHL draft and who you predict in the top 3? Watson: This years draft class is full of great players. I think it is dependent on what the drafting team needs that will determine who goes where. Anyways, my top 3 prediction is.. 1. Roman Shultz 2. Emma Watson 3. Brandon Donini I just wish everyone the best of luck and I hope all my friends come and support me come draft day. Thx :3 *****Also I would like to add that I know I said I will only play for a squad if Alicia Keys is on the team. Although it is strongly preferred by me, this is no longer the case.
