- CyanWinters - 09-24-2012

Monday's are typically given a pretty bad rap. The beginning of the work week, the end of the weekend, however you look at it most people could go with a few less Monday's in their life. Cyan Winters is no different. As such, his first reaction to learning of the NWJHL draft date was "a Monday? The hell?". His second reaction, which he requested be the only one reported was "I'm very excited to finally have a date I can circle on the calendar for the draft!"

Winters has already put out quite a bit of content this week, including an extensive interview with RIT's SportsZone, so there was not much left for him to say. However in typical fashion, the interviewer attempted to draw more information out of him about the draft. Winters was asked where he might land come Monday night.

"Here we go again, really? I don't have much else to say. I've been in contact with the same groups as last week. I know where I want to go, and that team knows I want to be there. Whether that ends up happening or not, is out of my control. I can't refuse to be picked by a team that hasn't talked to me. At some point, the hockey Gods have to decide where my career is going to take me."

Winters was asked if he has practiced since being locked out of RIT practice. His response was perhaps unexpected. "Not really, no. I've been doing a lot of off ice training, but I haven't spent much time on the ice. It's surprisingly difficult to get good ice time as a drop in guy in the local men's leagues, and as a goalie I kind of need people shooting at me to make it worth it. I've just been hitting the gym alot."

Winters is definitely excited for his career in the NWJHL to begin. "It's exciting to finally be able to play hockey at a competitive level again. I really can't wait. And it will be nice to get past this boring interim period. I really feel like I have not accomplished much in the last couple weeks, but I expect following the draft things will shift into a whole new gear."

Winters closed with a positive message to all his draft classmates. "I wish everyone the best of luck tomorrow night, and I hope that everyone ends up where they want. I also hope that my team, whoever it ends up being, ends up with a strong team for me to play behind."

Onward to the draft! This is definitely not symbolic of anything.
