With the retirement of Michael Barrett, the Jets needed to find a new Captain for Season 17. A relatively young team, the new captain would be a player who has grown with the team since their makeover from the past regime. So, without further ado:
The first assistant captain will be Season 16's first overall pick, MAXIM HORVAT! He's gotten his feet wet in the SHL last season and has been a strong voice in the locker room since he was drafted. We're proud to put the "A" on his jersey.
The second assistant captains will be MR. FEENY and MAX McDONALD! Mr. Feeny will be wearing the "A" during the home games and McDonald will don it for the away games. The 2 first round picks in this season's draft are a very important part of the franchise and no doubt will be a strong force on and off the ice.
And now, the new captain of the Winnipeg Jets is none other than Defenseman VICTOR HELSTROM!!! Helstrom has been one of, if not, the biggest piece of the Jets present and future. Coming from the Los Angeles Panthers in a trade for Brandon Donini, Victor has been great for the Jets in every facet of the game. He was a no brainer for management to decide to sew the "C" onto his jersey. We are very happy to have Helstrom lead our team.
