The GMs have voted and the draft lottery will now be changed to an NHL style lottery. It's simple, there will now only be one lottery winner making it so that you can only move back a maximum of 1 spot. The odds will remain the same as in previous lotteries(20,15,10, and 5 balls). No more last place teams getting the 3rd/4th overall pick. Some of you may hate this *cough* Spangs, but I personally love it. Also be prepared for an anti-tanking rule to go along with this in the near future.
Just in case you were curious, these are the options and results of the vote.
A ) Keep it the same
B ) Same format, new ball totals: 30, 15, 10, 5
C ) One lottery winner (NHL style)
A ) 3 votes
B ) 1 vote
C ) 7 votes

Last- 20 balls
2nd Last- 15 balls
3rd Last- 10 balls
4th Last- 5 balls

Terrible. This just rewards tanking since there is no way we could ever identify it. Good show. Changing the odds to 30, 15, 10, and 5, would prevent the last place team from slipping too far but keep them being guaranteed to benefit from tanking. This system simply guarantees that tanking will be beneficial to them.
Heck I ran the numbers and the fairest, most entertaining way was with the odds slightly alerted. The new system only benefits those who tank while stripping the lottery of all excitement. Worst change ever made in the shl honestly. Might as well scrap the lottery entirely now.

Not in the least. We will never be able to identify it without significant controversy and without punishing teams who did not attempt to tank. Pretending that we could find tankers easily and punish them is beyond naive.
And plus, a system where we altered odds would be fair as well. Even more fair, since it wouldn't guarantee that tankers, when we never catch them, get rewarded.
