- ESS - 12-02-2014 <div align="center"> :force: Brandon Pomery :force: Bio ![]() Brandon Pomery was born in Kitchener, Ontario to Norticea and Jason Pomery, Brandon grew up in not the richest of houses, but it was definitely above the house of the surrounding families. Brandon was a good kid through his elementary school days, as well through junior high, as he excelled in school and used it as a strong suit throughout his life. He started out his sports career with soccer, as most kids do start out with. After a few seasons of soccer with the junior rep team in Kitchener, Brandon soon became bored of this sport and ventured off to do other things. Brandon was born with this weird talent that most kids would want. The ability to excel at anything he did, and boy could he play soccer. He could also play various other sports such as hockey, football, swimming and basketball. Brandon ventured out during his school seasons and tried out for all of these sports team, he did make them all and he did blow coaches minds with the athleticism he presented in each of the sports. He was just a born athlete. Around the age of 12 Brandon knew he needed to make a decision about his future, basically whether or not he wanted to become an athlete, or not. Brandon made the executive decision to pursue a sport in his life, but the biggest decision he was to make had to come soon. What sport will he try to pursue? ![]() Brandon playing for Team Canada Brandon went on to talk with his parents and thought about the pros and cons of each sport, as well, how much money he would make with every sport. Brandon concluded that the sport he would be pursuing would be the sport of hockey, and he stuck to his word through his Bantam and Midget hockey days, as he went on to play top AAA and AA hockey through those years, making many friends, and impressing various coaches and scouts. Brandon went on to be drafted by the London Knights of the OHL where he impressed various scouts at the NHL level, and he went on to represent his country at the world junior hockey championships three times, all in which he led the tournament in scoring. He only secured one gold medal in the process, with 2 bronze finishes. This play in the juniors for the Warriors, as well, for his country, impressed NHL scouts, and Pomery was ultimately the number one defenseman on the board for the NHL draft, but only one question was asked about the small defender, is he too small to play in the NHL? What happens when he plays against guys like John Scott and Zdeno Chara? That question was asked numerous times heading into the draft, but as many still suspected, Pomery’s name was called first overall by the Montreal Canadiens. Brandon Pomery made the Canadiens roster in his first ever season, but after experiencing the real NHL action, Pomery suffered numerous concussions, and the final one coming from a big hit by Milan Lucic knocked Pomery out of the NHL, as the Canadians bought Pomery out. No other team pick the small defenseman up with the history of his head injuries. This seemed like the end of the road for Pomery, until the Simulation Junior Hockey League came along. He immediately signed up for the draft, and was taken 8th overall by the Regina Force, whom he will play for in the 21st season. SMJHL Due to Brandon Pomery coming straight out of the draft, we don’t have any present stats right now, but based on his teammates and his current player build this is what the folks at ESS project Brandon Pomery’s point totals to be like this season. Code: GP: 40 Strengths: 1. Skating (80): Brandon Pomery has a decent skating stat playing the in Juniors, he improve his skating as the season progresses, as he will be relied upon to move the puck out of the zone with his quickness. Look for his skating to help him get up the ice quickly, and start breakouts fast. 2. Scoring (80): Pomery also has a pretty high scoring stat, and this has set Pomery up to become an offensive defenseman with a nose for the net. With a high scoring stat look for Pomery to be looking at every shooting opportunity he can find, and look for him to put many pucks on net, as well, in the back of the net. 3. Puck Handling (80): One of the final steps of this offensive defenseman, Pomery has a high puck handling attribute, which will come in handy during those pressure situations where he needs to outlet the puck quickly, or carry it out himself. This will also come in handy when Pomery needs to control the puck at the blue line and fire a quick shot off. Look for Pomery to be controlling the puck quite a bit in the offensive zone. Weaknesses: 1. Strength (50): Having a low strength may come back to hurt Pomery during this season, as many of the other junior players in this league have body builds that resemble those such as Milan Lucic. Pomery cannot allow bigger defenders to get around him using their strength to protect the puck, as having a low strength will leave Pomery defenseless in these situations. 2. Checking (70): Along with the low strength, it somewhat helps that Pomery contains a 70 in his checking category, but when he is throwing those checks against guys that are bigger than him, Pomery won’t be able to knock every single player off the puck, just due to the fact he has such little strength. He will more than likely find himself on the receiving end of his own hits. 3. Defense (70): Pomery’s defense attribute isn’t too low, but being a defenseman it could be a little bit higher. Of course, with Pomery build set to be for an offensive defender, he won’t find himself defending that much. PROJECTION: Player Grade: A- ![]() NHL Comparison: P.K. Subban The folks at ESS project Brandon Pomery to be a top line defender in Regina this season for the Force, we think with his offensive build, he will get a lot of playing time, as he will act as a fourth forward every shift. Brandon has the potential to become a SHL star someday in his career, if he continues to update frequently like he has so far. Currently sitting at 214 TPE with a few days until the seasons start, we expect Brandon Pomery to be hitting the 300 TPE by the SHL entry draft. Brandon is currently projected to be a mid to late 1st ROUND PICK. Brandon Pomery does have some experience with some GMs of SHL teams, as his former agents have all played two to three seasons in the SHL before retiring, so that does hurt Pomery’s draft stock quite a bit. Nonetheless, Pomery will scale out to be an excellent defensemen if he continues this growth. Who Could Use Pomery’s Services in the SHL? ![]() ![]() ![]() </div> - Merica - 12-02-2014 he has had like 10 players, no way he can be rated A-. - Schultzy - 12-02-2014 ![]() - Schultzy - 12-02-2014 Quote:Originally posted by Merica@Dec 2 2014, 10:18 PMExperience  - Elyk - 12-02-2014 Good article ![]() - GroupMeIsKindOfOkay - 12-02-2014 Partlow aging? fuck outta here - Merica - 12-02-2014 Quote:Originally posted by Schultzy@Dec 2 2014, 10:20 PM Experience at creating and promptly retiring his players. The risk of him retiring mid-season should drop his rating some. - Schultzy - 12-03-2014 Quote:Originally posted by Merica@Dec 2 2014, 10:39 PMAgree. I would rank him at a (B-) to be honest. The odds are stacked against him to still be in the League 4 seasons from now. Impossible for him to have a ten year career. But he's still a great LR presence and he's got some cash. He's shown he can be effective even at a low TPE level. Unlikely that he ever gets to 650-700 TPE but he should reach the 450 mark. And that could be enough to be a role player. - HabsFanFromOntario - 12-03-2014 Small nit picking, Kitchener not Kingston. Also how'd I get drafted to the WHL from Ontario? And soccer? Really? Of all sports to pick! ![]() Great read though, obviously people doubting my potential will just have to take a seat and learn. FYI, first player lasted 6 seasons, 600 tpe (prior to TPE inflation era) - GroupMeIsKindOfOkay - 12-03-2014 Quote:Originally posted by HabsFanFromOntario@Dec 3 2014, 12:19 AMthat was what, almost 10 seasons ago? - HabsFanFromOntario - 12-03-2014 Quote:Originally posted by Midas Whale@Dec 3 2014, 01:23 AM Precisely, 10 seasons ago. - GroupMeIsKindOfOkay - 12-03-2014 Quote:Originally posted by HabsFanFromOntario@Dec 3 2014, 12:24 AMso yea…you're not exactly reliable - HabsFanFromOntario - 12-03-2014 Quote:Originally posted by Midas Whale@Dec 3 2014, 01:25 AM Wow, really?
