- fgh - 02-26-2015 Maybe I'm the last guy to the party, but did any of you guys find it odd that there isn't an official nickname for the Brooklyn team? Check it out I like the logo personally but it's strange not having a mascot or something. Am I the only person thinking like this? Thoughts? - GroupMeIsKindOfOkay - 02-26-2015 They're gonna still be the Islanders - fgh - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by Midas Whale@Feb 26 2015, 09:39 AM Maybe I missed that piece of info, where'd you hear that? - GroupMeIsKindOfOkay - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by mpc@Feb 26 2015, 10:42 AMhttp://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-dad...-170832009.html It was talked about when it came out they were moving to Brooklyn. - fgh - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by Midas Whale@Feb 26 2015, 09:54 AM Ok, thanks! Didn't know. Then other question: Why keep the name Islanders if you're not on the Island anymore? I get it's history, but besides that, is there any name that would make more sense? - GroupMeIsKindOfOkay - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by mpc@Feb 26 2015, 11:04 AMBrooklyn is, geographically speaking, part of Long Island Politically speaking it's a borough of NYC but they're still technically on Long Island - fgh - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by Midas Whale@Feb 26 2015, 10:07 AM Really? God damn, I'm really behind on the whole NYC thing... - GroupMeIsKindOfOkay - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by mpc@Feb 26 2015, 11:08 AM Brooklyn and Queens are both technically apart of Long Island - fgh - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by Midas Whale@Feb 26 2015, 10:07 AM I guess the point I was trying to make is that the culture of Brooklyn is different from the rest of the Island. I assumed the culture difference would have led to a change in name, but apparently I was wrong, my bad! - fgh - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by Midas Whale@Feb 26 2015, 10:11 AM Thanks! I was always confused about which was where. I knew the Bronx was part of the mainland, but past that I am a bit off. - GroupMeIsKindOfOkay - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by mpc@Feb 26 2015, 11:11 AMYea the culture is different for sure. The CEO said that they want to keep the history in tact tho, but add a 3rd jersey with the Nets colors. I'm glad they're not changing anything. The Isles have a classic look imo and the name does still make some sense - GroupMeIsKindOfOkay - 02-26-2015 They're just moving to a much nicer building closer to more people, but it's still relatively close to the Isles main fanbase. If you change the name and jerseys, it could and most likely would alienate the current fanbase. - fgh - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by Midas Whale@Feb 26 2015, 10:16 AM That makes a ton of sense, on the same page now! Speaking of NYI, you see the ESPN 30 for 30 on them and the GM who fraudulently bought the Isles back in the 90s? - GroupMeIsKindOfOkay - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by mpc@Feb 26 2015, 11:20 AMi did lol. guys my hero - fgh - 02-26-2015 Quote:Originally posted by Midas Whale@Feb 26 2015, 10:26 AM Same here, I respect the hell out of him for trying to actually get shit together haha I also thought it was funny that he is a top 3 GM of the Islanders franchise because he got the stadium fixed and got the TV contract lol Guy with no money a better GM than other people with actual money, priceless (pun intended) |
