Kaspars Tsizling began his offseason with a bang this year after raising the holy chalice high above his head as S23 came to a close. Historically his summer began far earlier, enabling him to work harder during the offseason to prepare for the next season. This year’s workouts began a bit later than usual, delayed by celebrations and excessive drinking.

Kaspars’s alcohol preference is a good ale rather than hard alcohol.

Tsizling’s beach house is where he focuses the majority of his training. Every day he goes for two three mile runs on the beach for endurance training and winds down by another 5 mile on the bike. The sea breeze is a good tool to keep his body cool, but the sand provides a bit more resistance than traditional running. Being strong is important for a defensive defenseman, but being able to do it for an extended period of time is the most important thing.

Kaspars doesn’t only run on the beach, he has a tendency to go wrestle sharks as a hobby as well.

While endurance is of capital importance, when you play the kind of game that Tsizling does you need to be in peak physical condition. Kaspars trains in his home gym with his personal trainer. His first exercise he does in his training session is an altitude drop. Kaspars works his way up to the higher box heights, extending a knee up into the sky before dropping all the way into a squat below. It is high impact and demanding, but Kaspars wouldn’t have it any other way. Then there’s always the jumping pushups, pretty standard stuff. Oh, and a defenseman’s workout wouldn’t be complete without wrist and arm workouts to strengthen Kaspars’….. shot? Let’s not kid ourselves, this helps him punch people.

All in all, Kaspars is gearing up for another grueling SHL season. One thing is for sure – this one will be more difficult than the last. Big names have departed New England’s locker room. Names like O’Callahan. Kovalenko. Weber. Schenn. McZerhl. Tennyson. The stakes are higher than ever. Kaspars knows this, and he’ll be ready. He’s been training.

Is it okay if the team throws a party at your beach house? Seems like a nice location.
