- Cynthia - 07-24-2016 <div align="center"> Now that we've got that out of the way let's get to the real reason of this article, a brief look before the draft of 3 top female prospects to join the SMJHL and hopefully the SHL. Pietra Volkova Born in Moscow Russia, 18 year old Pietra Volkova has been able to catch the attention of many SMJHL GMs, as such she's been rumored to be going in the first round. The 5'8 150 pound sniper is hoping to provide plenty of goals in the near future for whatever team drafts her. Relying on speed, puck handling and scoring, AKA everything a winger needs to be successful , Pietra is sure to be an offensive dynamite once she develops. Despite holding the trademark of a sniper, Pietra has decent defensive ability and has an above average checking ability despite her smaller size at 5'8. Her SHL Comparable player would be Rider Clitsome. Ekaterina Rudnikova Born in Ufa Russia, Ekaterina is a top goaltending prospect in the upcoming season 30 SMJHL draft, The other prospects being Jason Aittokallio and Kyle Wahlgren. Due to the depth and skill level of this draft compared to others, Rudnikova's draft position is all over the place, all depending on whether or not teams are willing to draft the goalies early or not. As a hybrid goalie, Ekaterina's 5'10 frame is quick tall for a female goaltender, she's got a quick glove and a good reaction time. Her agility to move from post to post is noticed and she is one of few goalies in the league to be a puck moving goaltender. Her rebound control is a major weakness in her kit as a goaltender of course and needs to be worked on in the near future. Her SHL Comparable would be Mark Harter, mainly for the puck handling aspect. Greta Iversen Born in Bergen Norway, Greta Inversen is among the many defenceman in the upcoming SMJHL draft. The 19 year old two way defenceman has garnered some attention here and there and is expected to be drafted around the second round. At 5'9 and 175 pounds, one would be surprised to know that she isn't the greatest skater on the ice, many would associate poor skating to big defenceman. Greta is certainly not one of the bigger defenceman in this draft, it doesn't seem to show on the ice however, she's a feisty one for sure as she loves to drop the mitts for her teammates and can breakout the puck on the rush or play on the penalty kill. Whoever drafts Iversen is sure to grab a great defenceman as Greta develops. her SHL Comparable would be Jackson Rogers-Tanaka </div> |
