Spreadsheet Here

GVT (Goals Versus Threshold) is a standardized statistic that measures "the value of a player, in goals, above what a replacement player would have contributed." It adjusts for minutes played and for team success, so someone who played well on a shitty team will be recognized accordingly, as will someone who played well but lacked in ice time. A full explanation (including how it's calculated) can be found here: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

This year's notes:
-With a record-breaking season, the skater with the highest overall GVT is VLAD McZehrl Rage with a GVT of 21.740.
-The race for second was fairly close:
  -Chernika Banananov Chiefs at 20.113
  -Bubba Nuck Dragons at 19.908
  -Patrikov Bure Wolfpack at 19.830
-Bubba NuckDragons had an insane amount of points for a defenseman this season, but it's clear that his defensive play didn't suffer for it. He led the league in DGVT with an astounding 10.443.
-Mikko Linna Platoon led the S30 rookie class by a large margin with a GVT of 8.891.
-Also by a large margin, Dickie Pecker Stampede had the worst GVT in the league, finishing the season at -8.039.

Also, in case people are curious - these are the team stats at the bottom
GVt: Goal Value (varies team to team)
AVt: Assist Value (varies team to team)
TOCf: Threshold offensive contribution per minute (forward)
TOCd: Threshold offensive contribution per minute (defenseman)
SVg: League total saves by goalies
SFg: League total shots faced by goalies
SPa: League average SV%
GAA1: League average GAA (only calculated using starters)
SPt: Threshold SV%
SAa: League average shots allowed by team
SAt: Shots allowed by each team
SPMteam: Fewer shots allowed than league average (a negative value means the team allowed more than the league average)
ADMPt: The team's total adjusted defensive minutes played ("defensive minutes" are calculated differently for forwards and defenseman)
GF: Team goals for
GA: Team goals against

I probably will never truly understand what this is supposed to show (I get the whole above replacement thing, but some of the numbers seem to not reflect actual production from certain players and just assuming they will do better with better linemates/icetime), but I do love me some numbers.

Part of it is that, generally speaking, it weights goals much higher than assists (the actual values are listed toward the bottom - it varies slightly for each team) because a goal obviously more directly affects the team's differential. It also weighs +/- (again compared to the team's differential) a little more heavily for defensemen, since the assumption is that their primary purpose is defensive play, not points production.

So, in the case of the Chiefs, it weighs Palat being +13 above Garbanzo as being more significant than Garbanzo's 19 more assists. It also weighs Palat's 12 goals more heavily, since he had ~250 fewer minutes played.

As for McDoodle, he had the second-fewest goals on the team and, as said above, those are considered more important than assists. This "underperformance" is made even worse by the huge number of minutes he played.

No, the system isn't perfect, and it certainly values stats in ways that others may not agree with, but it's an interesting take on seeing how a player performs while attempting to normalize for variation in ice time and for overall team performance.

Fifth, if you include post-trade Colt. Wink

This is less about "best" and more about "did the most with the amount of ice time they had," though... yeah, I suppose you could make an argument for yourself Smile)

3.462 in S29
-0.105 in S28
0.628 in S27
(Didn't do it for S25-S26)

So yeah, definitely a jump for you, and I hope you're able to keep it up! Smile
