- Schultzy - 09-24-2016 Seppo Repo Ready To Turn Some Heads ![]() With the SMJHL Rookie Entry Draft just hours away there's one prospect who's proving to be more controversial than the rest. Finnish tough guy Seppo Repo is best know by fans for his physical game including memorable fights and cringe worthy huge hits replayed on YouTube thousands of times. But when it comes to the Draft, this tough guy could end up homeless. It's a case of talent versus skill. Repo has the talent to be an effective hockey player in the SMJHL. He has the potential to be a game changer in the SHL one day. But does he have the skill to change a game and deliver a win in the SMJHL this year? And do his public statements about a quick transition to the SHL scare off too many GMs? Repo plays a physical style. He's a guy out there on a mission: retrieve that puck and launch the counter attack. But that doesn't always show up on the score sheet as shots and points. He's got that x factor teams need, especially in rivalry games where the hitting intensifies....but is that worth a draft pick? As it stands right now, Repo is the 3rd highest TPE earner in the Draft. He's a full active recreate in a very shallow draft. And yet instead of battling for the top pick, he's facing the very real prospect of going undrafted. "If teams don't want a physical player, if they don't want protection for their star players, fine. Someone will and I will have an easy time playing against your soft roster with their 40 checking. If nobody picks me up, I'll wait for the SHL Entry Draft that's fine." Repo said. Seppo often compares himself to SHL greats Carter O'Callahan and Dean Colt who are known for laying the heavy hit. But Repo has a long way to go before he makes that kind of impression. "They seem to think I'm some type of make a wish foundation winner. That I'm not a serious player. I'm a hockey player. I play a well rounded game and I'm just as good as any rookie playmaker in the draft. Yeah I've got a lot to prove. But that just makes me work harder." said Seppo. Good luck planning your mock drafts kids. Repo could go very early, very late or not at all. Which GM will make the gamble that this tough guy can dish more than just heavy punches? "General Managers can do what they want. If they want to put a guy who has 40 Checking and 40 Defense on their top line, go right ahead. Let me know how that works out for you." Repo said before walking out of our interview laughing. - Schultzy - 09-25-2016 PreDraft bump B) |
