After a long career, over the course of which he has won three challenge cups, set a league record, and been declared a Hall of Fame GM, Wolfpack netminder Jakob Tanner has announced his retirement. He had this to say:
"I'm immensely grateful for those who gave me the opportunity to live the life I have - in Montreal, Hamilton, and Boston. When I initially declared for the SMJHL draft, I had no idea my career would take the course it has, and I find myself incredibly humbled. Playing alongside greats like McKeil, Schultz, Cant, Winter, and others with whom I had either one season or many has been an incredible experience.
"I also consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been in the league in the right time to be able to see the rise of stars too numerous to mention coming from the legendary S20 draft class. There are many I've never had the fortune of sharing a locker room with, but it's been a treat being able to watch them mature from SMJHL rivals to SHL legends.
"All in all, I feel it's time to pass the reigns. I've had a hell of a run, but everyone must eventually step aside and allow the sport to move past them. Except maybe McKeil. I'm fully convinced he'll be playing well into old age. Laukkanen is more than ready for a starting spot in New England and it's not a benefit to me or to the team for me to stand in the way of that.
"S31 will be my last season in the SHL, and while I'm hoping to challenge a couple records in the postseason.. I don't think I could really want anything more than the career I've had. Again, it's been an honor. Thank you."
