- fgh - 12-06-2016 So I usually don't do these pressers (relying on that podcast skrilla), but I feel it is necessary to talk to the people out there and convince the majority of my soon-to-be constituents that I am the right choice for a Head Office position. ![]() As a Head Office member, there are a few things I can guarantee: - The only stupid idea is one not voiced. We need an influx of creativity and flow, with fresh ideas being the mulch that helps the rose bud into a thriving bushel. If you have an idea, I'll bring it to HO. Granted, I will have my own opinion about the idea, and will voice that as well, but I feel that there needs to be constant discussion and look to improve, or else we stagnate and lose our luster. - Fair representation is necessary in a governing body. I don't plan on being a candidate of only one faction of the SHL. We need unity, bipartisanship, and true bonding to make the site habitable for all. Without this, we are destined to fail. A great example of this is the way HabsFanFromOntario, Merica, and Maxy have revolutionized the SMJHL recently. Let's expand that to the entirety of the league. - Quick response time is key in the Internet age. We need speed, activity, and action to avoid the doldrums of the offseason. I plan on being attentive to the needs of the league and swift in making clear choices for the betterment of the league. There are a few things on my "First Season in Office" agenda I'd like to float by you all: - Shorter offseason by placing the pressure on GMs to get offseason tasks done and prepare for them during the regular season. We can't have long offseasons anymore if we want to keep up the activity we currently have. - Make the SMJHL Great Again. There has been fantastic work so far in the minor leagues, and I fully support the initiative and drive seen by the new Commissioners and Advisor. Let's keep this up and make it so members don't have to resort to shitstorms to keep the minors an enjoyable experience. - As Kennedy promised to land a man on the moon by the end of the decade, I too shall make a promise: the work done by HO will foster enough activity and growth in the league to warrant a need for expansion to 16 teams by S40. This is a promise I hope to keep, and feel that more teams, more games, and a stronger userbase can unite us all! Finally, there is the elephant in the room: my recent tampering suspension. Yes, I am aware that this brings up capability issues. I want to put this to rest by pledging to making sure everyone knows, understands, and interprets the SHL, SMJHL, and IIHF rulebooks in a fair and balanced manner. Knowing the punishments and their effect firsthand makes me the perfect person to decide what is a proper punishment for someone. I also don't want to be the "law and order" candidate, banning members left and right. There needs to be a reasonable middle that can be established so that folks don't feel scared to say something, but don't regularly go over the line. I feel the right mix of precedence and active judicial presence can provide a solid ruling that is beneficial for the league. I will take any and all questions! I still want to show support to the minors and their ability to create a league that provides active, strong prospects for the SHL. Quote:Originally posted by CRUTCHFIELD@Dec 6 2016, 10:43 AM
Neat I actually want to take this to address something. I know I'm a controversial candidate. Left the league in a big hurry, unwarranted and without any indication of something being wrong. Annoying presence on the boards. Sometimes a bit too active. I get that, and I want to assure the SHL that I am a candidate of the people. That means all people. I don't want to see someone in office that is only appealing to a certain part of their eventual constituency, and I don't think the SHL wants that either. There are plenty of things that can be said about me, and I'm sure some of them will be true. I can't change my past. I can, however, help change the future of the SHL in a positive way if you give me the chance. Channel my annoying, pestering, active mindset into something productive and who knows what we can accomplish? Quote:Originally posted by HabsFanFromOntario@Dec 6 2016, 10:54 AM
When you wanna be juny commish so bad your platform for SHL commish is to be a junior commish. ![]() I want to be there to support the SMJHL as much as possible and help you develop the prospect pool into active, contributing members. That cannot be ignored. Does that mean I have some of the same things on my platform you're currently executing? Yes. I think that only shows my commitment to the changes you are making. A strong SMJHL reasonably leads to an active SHL, so your success is crucial to ours. I already talked about this in OP, but yes, I do understand that I have been on the wrong side of punishments recently. I think this shows that I know the impact different suspensions have on a member and can fairly hand down punishments that keep members accountable, but still active. Quote:Originally posted by Samee@Dec 6 2016, 11:09 AM
Who will run these expansion teams I'm sure we'll find 4 active members to start off the new teams. Last time expansion was announced, there were a lot of active members vying for the chance to start a new legacy, and 2 established members got their chance. I'm sure the HO at the time will be able to make a good decision on who should gain the title of SHL GM, and I think I can make a smart decision on such a matter. Quote:Originally posted by Samee@Dec 6 2016, 10:06 PM
Under what cirumstances do you think the SHL would require an expansion, and what are your thoughts on the potential extension of the 50 game season to an 80 game season? The SHL needs more actives for there to be need for expansion. I think that with the numbers we have right now, it would take anywhere from 50 - 75 more active members to warrant discussion about expansion. I hope that, with measures put in place and motivation from an mpc HO, we can gain that level of new users and retain our older users to make expansion a reality. We can only discuss an 80 game season when our offseason are shorter. While more games, in theory, could boost activity, it could also drag out the season to the point that people just lose interest in everything taking so long. We'll have to wait and see. The IIHF is a peculiar beast. Lunaro and Velevra have been great for the league, and I'm glad to have worked with them in my time as Russia's Head GM. However, there is irreparable damage caused by the Dual Nationality era that still needs to be worked out. With more international stock coming to the SHL, there's less need for transfers, and that's a good thing. I think the trend we're on right now is steadily increasing, and maybe with PbPs implemented for medal round games, we could boost some of that activity. <!--QuoteBegin-Samee@Dec 6 2016, 10:14 PM im to lazy to edit Any thoughts on when the draft date is set? Do you think GMs should decide on a date quicker? And are there any changes to the rules you have in mind?
GMs have a real life. I, more than anyone, understand that. You can't pressure cook GMs into being ready to draft the instant the finals PbP is over, but there has to be some multitasking done in the postseason to get ready for the offseason. Teams out of the playoffs should be looking at their offseason finances, and the SHL Draft date needs to be set by the time the playoffs end so there's a deadline in place for certain things (regression, CW grading, scouting, etc.) to get done. I know that Bojo is going through the rules as new commissioner, and when I am elected, I hope to help him find any holes in the current system and repair them. We also don't need frivolous rules coming down just for change's sake, so there has to be a balance. I'm not going to promise a specific rule change just yet, but I can promise I'll take into consideration any rules that come through us from around the league. - .bojo - 12-06-2016 just a heads up: smjhl decisions will mostly be handled by the smjhl people - crutch - 12-06-2016 ![]() - fgh - 12-06-2016 Quote:Originally posted by Bojo@Dec 6 2016, 10:36 AM Very true.
