Putting up some really good numbers and clearly doing the heavy lifting for his team that is currently within a playoff spot.
32 Points in 27 games, the next highest is a forward(Angello) with 21. His physicality is next to nothing but he's still a solid defensive option and generally produces at a more positive rate in comparison to his other teammates for the most part.
Currently tied for 3rd in scoring atm and has the 2nd highest P/20 in the league. Is he the front runner right now?
Does he have a chance at the HOF?

he'd get my vote for MVP right now, yeah
1 point behind the league leader in points despite being a defenseman, and he plays fewer than 23 minutes per game
he's definitely lacking the physicality but he's also taking very few penalties and carrying a rather unimpressive team to the playoffs with his offense

It seems like every season a defenseman is leading a playoff team in points. Can't be giving a d-man the award every season.
He would at least be a nominee at this point.
