Los Angeles Panthers Defenseman Chris Crutchfield prepares to face the media amidst his retirement rumors.

There comes a time in every player's career when they have to determine whether or not it's truly time to hang up the skates. For me, the idea of even possibly retiring came last season when I was under performing. From being a number two overall pick to being an extremely underwhelming player in the SHL affected me personally, and my personality and to everyone that had to feel the brunt of that, I'm extremely sorry.

It's no secret that there is another player that looks very promising coming through the CRUTCHFIELD player agency (Connor Blackwell), and I feel like it might be time for him to take over and do everything that I couldn't do through my career. Such as..

- Winning a Four Star Cup
- Captaining a team to win the Challenge Cup
- Being a great presence to be around

For a couple seasons now, I've felt extremely guilty that I haven't been able to do what a high level player should be able to do. Last season was great for me personally, leading all defensemen in points and playing an integral part for this Los Angeles Panther squad, but in all honesty, I'm not needed here in LA. There is so much youth on that team ready to take over for me and carry the weight that I will inevitably not be able to carry for this team.

I've made a bunch of great friends, from St. Louis (and being blessed enough to be able to help run that team for a couple of seasons with a good friend of mine, Ryan King), to Manhattan where I really learned what it was like to be a professional, and finally to Los Angeles where I have spent the better part of 4 seasons or so here now. It's all becoming very real to me that my time spent in this league is slowly coming to an end. From the day I walked through the door at the SMJHL Prospect Tournament to walking into the last practice after the Panthers got knocked out of the playoffs this year by the Calgary Dragons (congratulations on the Challenge Cup), it's all been real and I wouldn't change a thing about what I have done in this league.

A lot of people from around the league have talked to me about the retirement rumors that have been going around, and I've talked it over with many people in this league that mean a lot to me. My team is behind me and supports me every single step of the way, and I'm eternally grateful for them.

I'm extremely proud of everything that I have accomplished over the course of my career and I'm determined to lead the Panthers into Season 33 with everything I have left in the tank to win the Challenge Cup. This team means more than the world to me and making the playoffs last season was a huge step for us as a team.

So therefore...

I'm officially announcing that Season 33 will not be my last season in the SHL.

I will now be taking questions from anyone who has any for me to answer.

Have you ever thought about trying to find a career in politics?

How long can you say no to the idea of playing bingo with mature ladies all day long?

Being 6'1", do you think you can fight off the competition you will eventually get for going after the hottest gal in the retirement home?

What is your opinion on people who wear hoodies?
