So I was dicking around looking at some test sims which <a href='index.php?showuser=31' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>grimreaper</a> ran.
I decided to do a comparison of the best scoring defensemen, and get a handle on who projects to be on the top of the Defensive Scoring Leaderboard.
Please use this for betting!
I used the results of 10 different full-season sims. Backup goalies were not used.
Without further ado, let's begin by seeing who all managed to hit the top 10 leaderboard at least once - 23 different defenders managed to crack the list:
The number under S1, S2, etc. are the position the player had on the leaderboard.
The players are ranked in AVG placement on the leaderboard. Anyone who finished out of the top 10 in any given SIM was given a score of 12.

Examined 10 test sims based on the most recent lines submitted by GMs.
Examined the top 10 Defense Scoring statistics.
Gave scores 1-10 based on rank in the top 10 (e.g. 1 point if finished 1st, 2 pts if finished 2nd, etc.)
Gave a score of 12 if the player did not place in the top 10, regardless of actual positioning.
The lower the AVG. number, the MORE likely the player is to finish in the top 10.
The base score is 12, so as the AVG. approaches 12, the LESS likely it is that the player will finish in top 10.
The number of points a player got did not impact their AVG. - so for instance, Winston Windsor's 1st place finish with 46 points is given the same score as Wyatt Wollker's 1st place with 69 points.

ANALYSIS:
Based on these results, the projected top 5 defensemen in the SHL are:
1. Alonzo Garbanzo - Minnesota Chiefs
Garbanzo finished in 1st in 5 of the 10 sims. He also had 4 5th place results. Only once was he not in the top 10.
His scoring stats ranged from 36 to 60 points, 4 times he broke the PPG barrier.
Sadly, Minnesota only made the playoffs in 1/10 sims, and finsihed last in the East 5/10 times.

2. Maria Maximova - West Kendall Platoon
Maximova had 6 top-3 finishes in these tests, and only once did she not place in the top 10.
Her scoring stats ranged from 33 to 51 points, 3 times got 50+ points. Only player in the top 5 not to finish 1st at least once.
West Kendall made the playoffs 9/10 times in these sims, thanks in large part to Maximova's performance

3. Big Manious - Winnipeg Jets
Manious had 6 top-5 finishes, including 1 first place, and never placed lower than 10th. Only player to make the top 10 every time.
Scoring stats ranged from 36 to 55 points, 3 times broke the PPG barrier.
His strong play helped the Jets make the playoffs in 8/10 sims.

4. Wyatt Wollker - Manhattan Rage
Wollker had the most points in 2 of the sims, and twice had the second most points. Only once finished out of the top 10.
His stats ranged from 36 to 69 points (!
, 3 times broke the PPG barrier.The Rage made the playoffs in all 10 test sims.

5. Jasper Clayton - New England Wolfpack
Clayton had one top place finish, and another 6 top-5 rankings. He made the list 9/10 times.
His stats ranged from 31 to 56 points, twice he had a PPG season.
The Pack made the playoffs 9 of 10 seasons, and 1st in the East 4 times.

Notables:
Winston Windsor had 4 top-4 finishes, including one as top scorer - yet he missed the top 10 the other 6 times.
Chris Crutchfield, last season's top scorer, never finished higher than 5th place, but made the top 10 7 times.
Vladimir Lidstrom and Scott Robertson both achieved results as high as 2nd place, but each of them also missed the top 10 6 times.
Bojo Biscuit and Barney Stinson, long time residents of the Defensive top-10, both managed to score as high as 3rd but yet missed the top 10 the majority of the time.
Bubba Nuck, the top scoring defenseman just 3 seasons ago, had just 1 top 10 finish, and that was a measly 9th place.
Klaus Wagner, who was the top scoring defenseman just 2 seasons ago, had just 2 top 10 finishes and never higher than 8th.
