Word out of Portland is that rookie winger Reed Laing is being shopped around the SHL as a possible trade target. Laing has had a relatively productive start to her rookie campaign with 17 points in 25 games. She is tied for 4th in the SHL in rookie scoring and you would think the rebuilding Admirals would look to keep her as a part of their future. But that does not seem to be the case.
Laing signed with the Admirals after S31 when she was deemed to be an unrestricted free agent after the Texas Renegades failed to tender her a contract. She signed one of the largest contracts in league history with a 3 year, 36 million dollar deal. The 3rd year of that deal is now coming into question after being approached by Portland General Manager Wally about a potential contract extension.
Wally has informed Laing that if she does not agree to a contract extension before seasons end that she will be released or traded. Laing has a no trade clause included in her contract and would have to approve any trade from Portland. From what we have been told her agent has informed the Admirals that under no circumstances would she approve a trade to any team. Laing also cannot officially sign an extension until the off-season as she is under contract for S34. With the new rule giving teams an option to buyout players her future is completely up in the air.
Laing and her agent have yet to speak on the rumors.
