356 words, ready for gradingIt’s no secret that the Halifax Raiders are not in the best spot right now. They finished S34 in 8th place with a record of 14-32-4 (32 points). On top of that, they had a -66 goal differential which was by far the worst in the league and nearly double that of the Vancouver Whalers at -37. That being said, there are still things to look forward to as a die hard Raiders fan, it just may take a few seasons. The S36 draft class has brought a significant boost the SMJHL in general, and with the arsenal of picks the Raiders had this year they have started to bring in the talent they need to get back into the playoff race.
Here are the new additions to the Raiders:
LW Cody Fletcher – Sniper
LW Chuck Bernstein – Two Way Forward
LW Dwayne Wyder – Power Forward
C Oliviz Klozoff – Playmaker
C Yuri Boyka Jr – Offensive Forward
RW Bar Downski –Two Way Forward
D Cloud McCarthy – Defensive Defenseman
D Montek Ramrap – Offensive Defenseman
D Lukas Muller – Two Way Defenseman
D Ted Glass – Two Way Defenseman
G Larry Enticer – Butterfly Goalie
As you can see the raiders have added a lot of diversity to their lineup with the different archetypes of players they have selected . Although they might struggle in the beginning, it’s clear that once their core develops over the next few seasons they will have a very dangerous and versatile team to work with.
Looking ahead to this coming season, it does not appear at the gate that the Raiders will make it to the playoffs. Currently in the preseason they are trending in a poor direction winning only 3 out of 21 preseason games so far and continuing to have a very negative goal differential of -32. Their top point getter so far in the preseason is Cody Fletcher with 7g 2a for 9 points putting him at #55 in points so far this preseason. That is not pretty to look at when you analyze this team, but when your entire top 6 is comprised of S36 rookies, I think this outcome is expected.
