Pirates are well known to travel with pets, most notably parrots. But have you ever wondered if they brought other pets along with them?
Truth is historians have genuinely no idea, or if they even brought parrots. The parrot thing comes from Christopher Columbus, who was obsessed with them and once said in his log book that were enough parrots in a flock that they blot out the sun. Historians also have some reason to believe that black cats were brought on as good luck.
Man's best friend was obviously likely to have journeyed as hunting dogs, amusement or company. We can tell that they definitely were by this good sailor:
