The Halifax Raiders are deeply saddened by the loss of Erik the Red, a cat who served a 15 year tour of duty on the CSS Acadia. According to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, "Erik was the last of the four rodent control officers who so proudly served aboard ship. Well done, good and faithful servant and God speed."

Erik the Red went above and beyond in showing what it means to be a Halifax Raider in his service on the Acadia. Missing an eye, and occasionally wearing a pirate hat, Erik exemplified the Raiders spirit in his look and in his dedication to his work. Players and management for the Halifax Raiders intend to attend Erik's burial at sea, whenever it occurs. You can read more about Erik here.
On a day that has seen new Raiders drafted into and acquired by the organization, this is a great time to reflect on what it means to represent the city of Halifax, and to honor the naval traditions of the area. On behalf of the Raiders' Pet Ranking department, it's head office, it's alumni, and it's players, we give our deepest condolences to the crew of the CSS Acadia, and say Godspeed to Erik. May you enjoy the great litter box in the sky.
