Random thought. To make life easier for playing backup goalie games with send downs, why not just skip the process of sending down/calling up goalies and simply just play the guy 6 times whenever.

For example, say we have a backup goalie who plays in smjhl. we want to call him up to play our 6 backup games. Instead, why don't we just pick and choose which 6 games we want to play the backup without having to go through the whole process of calling up/sending down. the smjhl has the same 6 goalie backup game rule so they'd also have to follow that

Only rule right now that might get in the way is the traded deadline sending down thing, but maybe just allow goalies? idk.

Right now a goalie can play in both leagues on the same day if the call-up is timed right, so this would just save some confusion when it comes to calling them up or sending them down at the right times. I don't mind the idea.

pretty much this. Either way GMs are getting around it by posting "Call up so and so after today's SMJHL sim" and just sending him down after the shl sim

edit: I thought you were talking about the chiefs so this was an idea i could get behind Smile)

In actuality the backup start rule should stay imo. adds some sort of strategy and puts teams at less of a disadvantage if they want to give an active prospect some playing time

 “Exemption: Minnesota will no longer have to follow the backup rule.”

But yeah, I think having the rule is fine, since it’s realistic (goalies aren’t going to start every game IRL) and gives prospects and older goalies some playing time as opposed to always riding the bench or just playing in the J

i knew it wouldn't take long for it to go off topic. Tongue

I don't like this idea bojo, but I also don't fully understand what you're suggesting... Would this mean the goalie in question would just be left on both rosters?

I actually really support this purely because it’s incredibly annoying to have to sign a new “backup” goalie IFA to backup your backup everytime a player gets called up.

Essentially. But as we can see from Texas's 17 goal games the backup is never played.

It doesn't matter who the backup goalie is for when the actual starter play. My idea just simply skips the "calling up goalie, sending down goalie" part of playing backup goalies that are in the SMJHL. That way SMJHL goalies just have to play 44 (50-6) games and not have to worry about when to play. Like JR has said, teams are already playing a goalie in SHL and then sending them back down the same day to play in SMJHL anyway.

back-ups should have to play 20 games a season instead imo

No more call ups imo. If you're good enough for the big time you should force your team to play you.
