Ive been here since Season 5, as most know i died out of interest on my 4th player Triforce Link he wasnt bad, just after having done so much i felt burnt out of the league. However its been a fun journy and i had hoped to one day return. Ahead of what will be my 5th SHL draft as Hasek never made it that far. Figured id look back at some of the things ive seen since i joined.
1st Website change
To be quite honest i totally forget what the old site was called, i do remember it died in Season 5/6 when we moved over to what we call home now. It appears to be coming to an end soon which is fitting the site had some issues but its served us well for 30+ seasons.
3 league expansions
Technically i joined same time the Chiefs and Panthers were announced. Back in season 5, all the way to when we expanding adding the Admirals and Stampede. Each time has been exciting to see how the franchises have unfolded. Seems the Stampede still struggle.
Sim change
We used a sim way back when good old version 1 that tracked take aways. Sadly that was the only benifit of this version atleast for our purposes. Now obviously 2 has had some changes over the year, but nothing as drastic as the version 1 vs 2 change.
3 update scales
Remember the old days when you reallllyyy had to work to hit 500TPE? those days are long gone. The scale was easier but as the league grew it needed to change TPE started being handed out like candy. Hence the constant scale changes which like minimum wage just ends up meaning we get more TPE and rinse repeat.
Media overhaul
Again i remember having to pump out article after article to survive in the league, get my name out just for a few measly dollars. The grading has changes as had the payout. But it also seemed to bring out better articles, i admit not everything i put out is gold but i see so many troll FA articles and pressers that is gotten old.
Death of the PBPs
I remember why i fell in love with the website, play by plays when they were at their peek people who shit talk eachother without going over the line well having a ton of fun. I tried to find links or old PBPs like season 6 but they are hard to find. Still the most fun i have ever had, now they are a shadow of their former selves. But when done right they are amazing wish theyd come back.
NWJHL turns to the SMJHL
Totally forget when this happened but ot used to be called the North West Junior Hockey League. Montreal, Kelowna, Detroit are all that remain. Good old Chicago, Washington RIP.
Name change cost
I remember when this came into play. Many members seemed to change their name a ton and it became confusing for bankers media commish etc. To the point they decided you would have to pay to change your forum name.
Toronto ending is curse
The longest running joke in the league, never won finally they did. But now the running joke is over sadly the good old days didnt seem to matter who ran it they couldnt get over the hump for so long.
Outside of the obvious team name changes, major drafts, crazy bans. New rules like the Jack Crasher rule. These were all the important parts i have been apart of an am excited to be around for many more. As i go into the draft this season unsure where i will wind up.
