S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - Mavfatha - 07-07-2018 My apologies to whoever has to grade this; I need dat cash. I can provide my spreadsheets and such if need be; I spent a lot of time on this although I have no idea what the word count works out to. Also double media for the draft related content please! Hey everyone (mostly the SMJHL rookies I tagged), welcome to another edition of my seasonal quest to perfect PAHSI (Pokemon Attribute from Hockey Skill Interpreter). That’s right, based on the way you spent your TPE - and with a few other changes for this season - you end up being changed into a particular Pokemon (like Bill from Gen. 1 for you old-timers out there). Here’s what I ran with two seasons ago (had to take a season off last time around, sorry S41 class) : Code: [align=center]Skaters: All of that worked decently well so I won’t be changing it, but I didn’t like how some players ended up as similar or identical Pokemon despite having at least somewhat varied builds. So I have one change going into effect this season and hope to both refine that and implement another for next season. The big change tries to emulate the Natures aspect of Pokemon – even amongst one particular species there is variation, as some are faster at the cost of attack, and vice versa, and the same goes for every other attribute set. For us, this means that a player’s strengths and weakness modify the usual values for that skill. A player’s strengths get a 5% bonus, while the one weakness gets a 10% decrease. Additionally, since I still haven’t worked face offs into this stuff and I saw many centers with a face off strength/they also spent a bunch of TPE in that, I decided to at least work that into the Nature idea. Therefore, a player with a Face Off strength will get a 10% bonus applied to each of special attack and special defense, representing their ability to either start an attack or prevent the other team from doing so. The one other area that I’ve started on but needs some refinement adds a Size component (separate from the goalkeeper’s size attribute) that basically acts as another attribute. I found a list of every Pokemon that had their heights and weights, and after parsing the data somewhat in the easiest possible way I got the heights in meters and weights in pounds. Obviously those don’t match up at all, so I then divided each by the average of all Pokemon to somewhat normalize the data. Finally, I divided the new height value by the new weight value in order to get a sense for the size and shape of a Pokemon. To get a value for hockey players - since there doesn’t seem to be an actual scale established for player creation - I looked up the average height and weight of an adult male (as far as I could tell all of the players in this draft class are male - I apologize if that is incorrect and plan on introducing changes for that in the future anyways). The data I found which I believe is for Americans but is good enough for our purposes is 69.2 inches and 195.7 pounds. So that will get me the normalized height/weight ratio I need to compare to Pokemon. Unfortunately, so far the size attribute just completely overwhelms everything else percentage wise, so it skews the results and I won’t be using it yet. For each player (of the 77 created and approved players as of me writing this, I apologize to those creating closer to draft time), I’ll provide their attributes in Pokemon terms, the name of the best Pokemon comparison, and that Pokemon’s attributes. I’ll also go into the Smogon tier of that Pokemon (essentially its competitive viability at this time) to give GM’s a heads-up on who to pick in the upcoming draft, since clearly this is the best way to determine draft selections. I’ll interject comments throughout as well as time allows – there’s so freaking many of you guys this time around but I’ll do my best! As you’ll notice soon I didn’t have time to write about the hockey skill side of things too – look that up for yourself you lazy bum! Hopefully that was enough of an explanation, time to get through as many players as I can now. Get at me if you have suggestions for the future or comments/questions for now! Centers Abraham Linden - @vancanfanman HP 50 Attack 50 Defense 50 Special Attack 66 Special Defense 51 Speed 66 Name Oricorio HP 75 Attack 70 Defense 70 Special Attack 98 Special Defense 70 Speed 93 Kind of a strange ‘mon with several different forms, this thing has literally zero usefulness in competitive Pokemon. It has been relegated to the PU tier, the lowest of them all. Carlo Russo - @Beaty HP 50 Attack 74 Defense 66 Special Attack 58 Special Defense 46 Speed 60 Name Salamence (Mega Salamence) HP 95 Attack 145 Defense 130 Special Attack 120 Special Defense 90 Speed 120 The first (of many as it turns out) Mega Salamence comparisons. These are definitely the guys you want to draft GM’s – this ‘mon has been relegated to the Uber tier for being way too good, and is banned in most normal competitive Pokemon fights. Dale Shootman - @amdschaefer HP 50 Attack 74 Defense 50 Special Attack 52 Special Defense 47 Speed 63 Name Bruxish HP 68 Attack 105 Defense 70 Special Attack 70 Special Defense 70 Speed 92 This weird looking fish is part of the banlist for the NU tier; it’s not quite good enough to be rarely used but is apparently too good for the never used tier. Ethan Marner - @Ethan34 HP 42 Attack 55 Defense 41 Special Attack 64 Special Defense 50 Speed 72 Name Sceptile HP 70 Attack 85 Defense 65 Special Attack 105 Special Defense 85 Speed 120 Sceptile isn’t as cool as its previous evolutions imo but still not a terrible comparison to have. As far as competitiveness goes, it is a proud member of the Never Used group. Goku Muerto - @Muerto HP 50 Attack 47 Defense 58 Special Attack 64 Special Defense 45 Speed 71 Name Litleo HP 62 Attack 50 Defense 58 Special Attack 73 Special Defense 54 Speed 72 This adorable little guy is a member of the Little Cup competitive group for being a Pokemon that can still evolve and is obtainable at level 5 in game. I don’t think it gets used much even there, though after evolution it’s a pretty fierce lion. Jax Aittokallio - @JayWhy HP 53 Attack 63 Defense 57 Special Attack 53 Special Defense 47 Speed 71 Name Fletchling HP 45 Attack 50 Defense 43 Special Attack 40 Special Defense 38 Speed 62 Sure it isn’t competitively viable yet, but its final evolution used to be a real stud, and personally I loved using this evolution line when playing through Y version. Not surprisingly, it is also in the Little Cup. John Zedrick - @SERGEANT_AO HP 50 Attack 54 Defense 65 Special Attack 65 Special Defense 52 Speed 54 Name Slurpuff HP 82 Attack 80 Defense 86 Special Attack 85 Special Defense 75 Speed 72 Another member of the Never Used banlist group of mons, I really just hate this thing and apologize to you and I believe a few others that are stuck with it. Kevin Kazarian - @Harry Hans HP 59 Attack 63 Defense 43 Special Attack 69 Special Defense 46 Speed 61 Name Growlithe HP 55 Attack 70 Defense 45 Special Attack 70 Special Defense 50 Speed 60 Not quite as fierce as after it evolves, but this pup will burn you if you aren’t careful. It’s another Little Cup member. Khee Nance - @NickySmooth69 HP 56 Attack 74 Defense 56 Special Attack 48 Special Defense 44 Speed 60 Name Mightyena HP 70 Attack 90 Defense 70 Special Attack 60 Special Defense 60 Speed 70 Sadly it belongs in that bottom of the barrel tier known as PU, though I still love the guy personally and enjoyed using it back in the Ruby/Sapphire days. Leshaun King - @King HP 40 Attack 79 Defense 67 Special Attack 53 Special Defense 38 Speed 65 Name Salamence (Mega Salamence) HP 95 Attack 145 Defense 130 Special Attack 120 Special Defense 90 Speed 120 It’s baaacccckkkkk! Not much more to say, just the result of an extremely high Attack stat plus some solid defense and speed as backup. Logan Noble Jr. - @Noble HP 41 Attack 55 Defense 45 Special Attack 74 Special Defense 48 Speed 68 Name Natu HP 40 Attack 50 Defense 45 Special Attack 70 Special Defense 45 Speed 70 Not a bad little Pokemon to be compared to, though again it is in the Little Cup tier and probably not particularly popular even there. Marc Palicka - @BaseScoutX1 HP 50 Attack 68 Defense 54 Special Attack 60 Special Defense 50 Speed 50 Name Grubbin HP 47 Attack 62 Defense 45 Special Attack 55 Special Defense 45 Speed 46 One of the newest Pokemon, this little bug in the Little Cup eventually evolves into one of the freaking fastest things around, the Electric-Bug type Vikavolt. Matt Redford - @Heikk_MJR HP 47 Attack 60 Defense 41 Special Attack 70 Special Defense 47 Speed 64 Name Tornadus (Incarnate Forme) HP 79 Attack 115 Defense 70 Special Attack 125 Special Defense 80 Speed 111 Despite being a legendary, this particular form of Tornadus is only part of the banlist for the Rarely Used tier, so is only eligible for higher tiers where it doesn’t quite hold up to the expected level. Mikey Pickles - @Mike_n_Ike HP 44 Attack 45 Defense 67 Special Attack 69 Special Defense 46 Speed 62 Name Seadra HP 55 Attack 65 Defense 95 Special Attack 95 Special Defense 45 Speed 85 Seadra is basically nonexistent for competition purposes – it can’t be in the Little Cup because it evolved from Horsea, and there’s not any reason to use it over its evolution Kingdra. Personally I don’t mind going old school though, and I think it was pretty strong back in the day. Mr. Faceoffs - @NH4JP HP 56 Attack 55 Defense 58 Special Attack 63 Special Defense 49 Speed 60 Name Golduck HP 80 Attack 82 Defense 78 Special Attack 95 Special Defense 80 Speed 85 Basically everything that I said for Seadra applies here too, although without the extra evolution on top it does mean that this gen 1 mon finds itself in the PU tier with the least competitive Pokemon. Snipperri Baardownen - @HoldenKenne HP 51 Attack 74 Defense 55 Special Attack 63 Special Defense 51 Speed 63 Name Landorus (Incarnate Forme) HP 89 Attack 125 Defense 90 Special Attack 115 Special Defense 80 Speed 101 Another legendary, with this one living up to the hype and finding itself in the Uber tier with the rest of the ridiculously powerful Pokemon. I hope I never have to type the player name again but he certainly build his player right based off of this clearly perfectly indicative form of measuring future success. Right Wingers Adam Taylor - @DannyMethane HP 66 Attack 55 Defense 46 Special Attack 64 Special Defense 46 Speed 65 Name Palpitoad HP 75 Attack 65 Defense 55 Special Attack 65 Special Defense 55 Speed 69 This mon is basically the result of Nintendo deciding that Poliwag/Poliwhirl/Poliwrath wasn’t good enough and trying again with a tadpole/toad/swole-bro line. Competitively it falls in that weird spot of 2nd evolutions in that they just aren’t used basically. Andrew Martin - @Good_Ole_Kimmy HP 46 Attack 84 Defense 44 Special Attack 50 Special Defense 41 Speed 67 Name Zangoose HP 73 Attack 115 Defense 60 Special Attack 60 Special Defense 60 Speed 90 This cat ferret is an appropriate comparison to be sure, though it doesn’t have anything going for it in serious Pokemon fights as it finishes in that bottom PU tier. Barnaby Picklesworth - @Frood HP 60 Attack 74 Defense 41 Special Attack 63 Special Defense 52 Speed 62 Name Toxicroak HP 83 Attack 106 Defense 65 Special Attack 86 Special Defense 65 Speed 85 If you ever wanted to see a Poison Fighting mashup in Pokemon, that’s basically exactly what it does and should look like. While the Never Used tier doesn’t sound impressive, it could actually be worse so there’s nothing to be too ashamed of. Clam Huitre - @Huitre HP 60 Attack 45 Defense 58 Special Attack 69 Special Defense 43 Speed 67 Name Litleo HP 62 Attack 50 Defense 58 Special Attack 73 Special Defense 54 Speed 72 Yep the little lion cub is back again in all of its Little Cup glory. Fun fact while I’m looking all this stuff up: 87.5% of these are females, so it’s really tough to get a male one for the male version of its evolution Pyroar. Crush Cile - @Wally HP 63 Attack 67 Defense 63 Special Attack 47 Special Defense 53 Speed 61 Name Inkay HP 53 Attack 54 Defense 53 Special Attack 37 Special Defense 46 Speed 45 Another proud Little Cup representative, I believe the idea here was to repurpose Tentacool as a squid, though somehow this thing is Dark-Psychic and not some kind of Water type. Also it only evolves in games when the system is held upside down, so please don’t drop Crush on his head when trying to do the same for him. David Fantobens - @Fantobens HP 51 Attack 74 Defense 40 Special Attack 66 Special Defense 54 Speed 66 Name Electivire HP 75 Attack 123 Defense 67 Special Attack 95 Special Defense 85 Speed 95 Nintendo decided Electabuzz and Magmar weren’t cool enough to begin with so they came up with this guy and Magmortar as evolutions. I disagree with the decision myself and neither member of this evolution tree is competitively viable anyways, but I may just be a purist. Derek Deffner - @TheRealToken HP 48 Attack 74 Defense 56 Special Attack 62 Special Defense 48 Speed 59 Name Landorus (Incarnate Forme) HP 89 Attack 125 Defense 90 Special Attack 115 Special Defense 80 Speed 101 Clearly I broke something since there should never be more than one of a particular legendary in our particular SHL Hockey Pokemon universe. Ah well, I blame the PAHSI algorithm. Eero Niemi - @spooked HP 51 Attack 74 Defense 59 Special Attack 61 Special Defense 46 Speed 66 Name Salamence (Mega Salamence) HP 95 Attack 145 Defense 130 Special Attack 120 Special Defense 90 Speed 120 Carry on people, nothing new to see here. Although based on spooked's avatar I think he'll appreciate this thing in general. Kjell Spolander -@Kjell HP 60 Attack 60 Defense 60 Special Attack 70 Special Defense 47 Speed 64 Name Girafarig HP 70 Attack 80 Defense 65 Special Attack 90 Special Defense 65 Speed 85 A cool giraffe/long neck Pokemon from back in gen 2, though it sadly doesn’t have serious applications either as another member of the PU tier. Lil' Manius - @Bonk HP 51 Attack 63 Defense 61 Special Attack 55 Special Defense 55 Speed 59 Name Poipole HP 67 Attack 73 Defense 67 Special Attack 73 Special Defense 67 Speed 73 Uh I’ve never played Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon so I have no idea what this thing is. Apparently an Ultra Beast that was introduced in regular Sun/Moon, though it can evolve which none of those could. Because of its evolution and without being eligible for Little Cup competition, it isn’t really used anywhere, which is a shame because it comes up several more times. Nate Forsberg - @NamelessNate HP 50 Attack 74 Defense 69 Special Attack 58 Special Defense 46 Speed 58 Name Salamence (Mega Salamence) HP 95 Attack 145 Defense 130 Special Attack 120 Special Defense 90 Speed 120 Yeah this is what happens when a bunch of forwards put almost all of their TPE into Scoring/Defense and have a Checking weakness. I would prefer it to not be so repetitive but not sure what to do about that at the moment. Also hai Nate. Pavel Pivonka - @Schultzy HP 60 Attack 71 Defense 59 Special Attack 49 Special Defense 49 Speed 67 Name Nidorino HP 61 Attack 72 Defense 57 Special Attack 55 Special Defense 55 Speed 65 Not super helpful on the competitive scene, but this gen 1 poison type was a solid team member back in the day, especially after you let it learn some level-up moves then evolve into Nidoking. Ryan Mason - @bamba1jl HP 53 Attack 67 Defense 61 Special Attack 52 Special Defense 58 Speed 45 Name Pupitar HP 70 Attack 84 Defense 70 Special Attack 65 Special Defense 70 Speed 51 It isn’t useful for serious Pokemoners at this stage and also kinda reminds of Metapod/Kakuna, though instead of evolving into a still useless bee or butterfly it instead becomes the fierce Tyranitar. Does that mean Ryan has limitless potential? You decide. Sulak O'Hritea - @MyLittleHexx HP 57 Attack 41 Defense 71 Special Attack 55 Special Defense 63 Speed 54 Name Suicune HP 100 Attack 75 Defense 115 Special Attack 90 Special Defense 115 Speed 85 Hey it’s one of those legendary dogs from gen 2 that used to drive everyone insane! Despite those facts it still only manages to be a member of the Underused tier, so not as bad as some of the previous mons but not even close to Uber level either. Tye Maximino - @austin_burns HP 55 Attack 68 Defense 61 Special Attack 63 Special Defense 48 Speed 59 Name Nidoking HP 81 Attack 102 Defense 77 Special Attack 85 Special Defense 75 Speed 85 So Pavel will someday hope to evolve into Tye I guess. Nidoking is with Suicune in the Underused tier, which is nothing to be ashamed of for one of the true forces of nature from gen 1. Left Wingers Bust - @Smirnov Light HP 56 Attack 74 Defense 58 Special Attack 54 Special Defense 43 Speed 68 Name Tranquill HP 62 Attack 77 Defense 62 Special Attack 50 Special Defense 42 Speed 65 I can appreciate the punny name, though I prefer Cyndaquil or Quilava for my quil Pokemon. As expected for the second of three evolutions, it is not considered for competitive purposes. Gvidas Kazlauskas - @CaptainCrazy HP 56 Attack 74 Defense 60 Special Attack 62 Special Defense 45 Speed 67 Name Salamence (Mega Salamence) HP 95 Attack 145 Defense 130 Special Attack 120 Special Defense 90 Speed 120 WE GET IT ALREADY! Hippo Passamus - @Mayuu HP 53 Attack 50 Defense 38 Special Attack 67 Special Defense 61 Speed 64 Name Raikou HP 90 Attack 85 Defense 75 Special Attack 115 Special Defense 100 Speed 115 Another of the cool but annoyingly hard to catch dog legendary Pokemon from gen 2. This one joins Suicune in the Underused tier, as I believe despite the strong stats it doesn’t have a great pool of moves to choose from. Ignatius Blunt - @Gaia Mormont HP 48 Attack 74 Defense 56 Special Attack 60 Special Defense 47 Speed 63 Name Landorus (Incarnate Forme) HP 89 Attack 125 Defense 90 Special Attack 115 Special Defense 80 Speed 101 To be blunt, this is another Pokemon I’m kinda sick of seeing. Jack Kennedy - @JRed94 HP 48 Attack 81 Defense 41 Special Attack 54 Special Defense 45 Speed 69 Name Mienfoo HP 45 Attack 85 Defense 50 Special Attack 55 Special Defense 50 Speed 65 Oh Mienfoo, that’s new. Kind of a basic fighting type from gen 5, although it is actually considered quite strong for the Little Cup tier of competition. Jeff Brogen - @Flowseidon HP 59 Attack 71 Defense 50 Special Attack 68 Special Defense 45 Speed 61 Name Croagunk HP 48 Attack 61 Defense 40 Special Attack 61 Special Defense 40 Speed 50 The first evolution of Toxicroak from earlier, it is also a useful member of the Little Cup tier like Mienfoo before it. Kalle Spolander - @Kalle HP 42 Attack 79 Defense 61 Special Attack 67 Special Defense 46 Speed 54 Name Charizard (Mega Charizard X) HP 78 Attack 130 Defense 111 Special Attack 130 Special Defense 85 Speed 100 Mega Charizard Y is my preference, though this one finally picks up the Dragon typing which is also pretty sick. This one is also much more competitively viable, as I believe this was actually the first member of the Overused (OU) tier so far. OU is the most oftenly used set of guidelines for these type of Pokemon battles, and being part of the tier is a really good indicator of Pokemon power. Lance Hamburglar - @japter35 HP 56 Attack 60 Defense 60 Special Attack 63 Special Defense 47 Speed 60 Name Poipole HP 67 Attack 73 Defense 67 Special Attack 73 Special Defense 67 Speed 73 Yeah it’s this little weird thing again; apparently the Poison Pin Pokemon. Luke Thomason - @"luketd" HP 54 Attack 60 Defense 58 Special Attack 67 Special Defense 47 Speed 63 Name Girafarig HP 70 Attack 80 Defense 65 Special Attack 90 Special Defense 65 Speed 85 Back to the giraffe Pokemon, which I think originally was supposed to have a true extra head on the butt instead of the strange tail with a face – sadly they didn’t actually go that route. Marcel Pühringer - @TMI HP 57 Attack 68 Defense 65 Special Attack 42 Special Defense 64 Speed 57 Name Garbodor HP 80 Attack 95 Defense 82 Special Attack 60 Special Defense 82 Speed 75 Sorry Marcel, you’re literally the trash heap Pokemon. I wish I could tell you it was competitive but it’s still not really that either, being a member of the NU (never used) tier. Max Mauldin - @Wasty HP 55 Attack 69 Defense 61 Special Attack 45 Special Defense 52 Speed 69 Name Leavanny HP 75 Attack 103 Defense 80 Special Attack 70 Special Defense 80 Speed 92 It’s a praying mantis basically I think? Anyways this bug/grass type from gen 5 is not useful at all in the sense we care about – it looks pretty lame and is part of the PU tier. Nicky Pedersen Jr. - @mstuk41 HP 55 Attack 68 Defense 62 Special Attack 53 Special Defense 54 Speed 62 Name Nidorino HP 61 Attack 72 Defense 57 Special Attack 55 Special Defense 55 Speed 65 Nicky here also focused on Attack, Defense, and Speed related hockey skills, so we get our second Nidorino of this crazy long list. Philipp Winter - @RomanesEuntDomus HP 51 Attack 74 Defense 51 Special Attack 51 Special Defense 49 Speed 70 Name Vibrava HP 50 Attack 70 Defense 50 Special Attack 50 Special Defense 50 Speed 70 Geez those are probably about as close as we’ll ever get in terms of the difference between the player’s and Pokemon’s attributes. Vibrava has no official tier as the second evolution of three, but anything that evolves into Flygon is alright in my book. Tobias Viklund - @Mordaciious HP 53 Attack 60 Defense 65 Special Attack 54 Special Defense 56 Speed 55 Name Mareanie HP 50 Attack 53 Defense 62 Special Attack 43 Special Defense 52 Speed 45 Another of the newer Pokemon, it was super annoying to find and catch and, once it evolves and if you spent a ton of time looking for the Regenerator hidden ability, it becomes super annoying for everyone else to fight against. Specifically with Regenerator it is quite popular in the Little Cup, and after evolving into Toxapex it moves up to OU and really dominates there too. Tony Pepperoni - @"TommySalami" HP 61 Attack 68 Defense 61 Special Attack 54 Special Defense 48 Speed 63 Name Nidorino HP 61 Attack 72 Defense 57 Special Attack 55 Special Defense 55 Speed 65 So many Nidorinos, so little time. Yuri Volchenkov - @Tendousoujii HP 50 Attack 69 Defense 39 Special Attack 50 Special Defense 60 Speed 70 Name Marshadow HP 90 Attack 125 Defense 80 Special Attack 90 Special Defense 90 Speed 125 This guy (well it’s genderless but you know what I mean) was some kind of specially released legendary if I remember right. This legendary lives up to the name, as it has been banished to the shadow realm of Uber tier, only to be released with other truly overpowered Pokemon. Zakhar Turakov - @Zaitsev HP 44 Attack 74 Defense 56 Special Attack 61 Special Defense 47 Speed 71 Name Tynamo HP 35 Attack 55 Defense 40 Special Attack 45 Special Defense 40 Speed 60 This little guy is in the Little Cup tier, and isn’t even relevant there. After a lot of hard work and two evolutions, it could work its way up to the PU tier and be kinda useable there? So basically there’s no hope, sorry Zakhar. Defensemen Anders Lloyd - @Vxilios HP 44 Attack 57 Defense 61 Special Attack 51 Special Defense 58 Speed 66 Name Snivy HP 45 Attack 45 Defense 55 Special Attack 45 Special Defense 55 Speed 63 I’m not sure I trust my memory and don’t feel like looking but I’m pretty sure this is our first actual Pokemon starter, from gen 5 in this case. Somewhat surprisingly for me it is a solid choice for the Little Cup, known as the best offensive grass type in the tier. Bill Barber - @justanotherUN HP 56 Attack 55 Defense 66 Special Attack 62 Special Defense 45 Speed 55 Name Slurpuff HP 82 Attack 80 Defense 86 Special Attack 85 Special Defense 75 Speed 72 Well we had this thing earlier so time for a fun fact: it can only evolve from Swirlix when Swirlix is holding a Whipped Dream item, those are my favorite dreams too. Helmuts Akmenlauks - @CookieMonster HP 60 Attack 74 Defense 67 Special Attack 51 Special Defense 47 Speed 60 Name Mightyena HP 70 Attack 90 Defense 70 Special Attack 60 Special Defense 60 Speed 70 Still a mighty looking Pokemon in the long line of cool dog Pokemon, but still not competitively viable. Jake Reid - @gittsumm HP 56 Attack 36 Defense 63 Special Attack 40 Special Defense 62 Speed 48 Name Burmy HP 40 Attack 29 Defense 45 Special Attack 29 Special Defense 45 Speed 36 A strange looking bug type from gen 4, it has a few different “cloaks” depending on the last place it participated in battle, and also has different evolutions depending on if it is male or female. But is it competitive? Sorry Jake, as is evident from those stats it certainly is not. Jonatan Bäck - @Daddydonkers HP 61 Attack 36 Defense 71 Special Attack 60 Special Defense 61 Speed 60 Name Suicune HP 100 Attack 75 Defense 115 Special Attack 90 Special Defense 115 Speed 85 Another Suicune; maybe this one won’t run away for once. Kiko Rytmeyr - @ThatIrishFellow HP 58 Attack 74 Defense 46 Special Attack 65 Special Defense 49 Speed 60 Name Toxicroak HP 83 Attack 106 Defense 65 Special Attack 86 Special Defense 65 Speed 85 Yep, it’s back. Yep, it’s still not relevant. Marco Raanteli - @Radsin HP 59 Attack 36 Defense 74 Special Attack 59 Special Defense 56 Speed 59 Name Swirlix HP 62 Attack 48 Defense 66 Special Attack 59 Special Defense 57 Speed 49 Yes, that is actual living cotton candy, joining the living ice cream and living garbage Pokemon as truly bad ideas. As mentioned earlier it requires Whipped Dreams to evolve. It also apparently doesn’t qualify for the Little Cup so it is literally useless, sorry Marco. Maximilian Egger - @Moosecop HP 48 Attack 40 Defense 75 Special Attack 55 Special Defense 41 Speed 67 Name Cobalion HP 91 Attack 90 Defense 129 Special Attack 90 Special Defense 72 Speed 108 When you’re known as the Iron Will Pokemon, you know you’re basically a badass. It’s still only in the Underused tier despite being a true tank of a Fighting Steel type legendary from gen 5. Also hai Moosecop, welcome man. Mike Lee - @Boroski_74 HP 53 Attack 62 Defense 64 Special Attack 64 Special Defense 49 Speed 62 Name Poipole HP 67 Attack 73 Defense 67 Special Attack 73 Special Defense 67 Speed 73 IT WON’T LEAVE ME ALONE! Milo Momoka - @milomomoka HP 57 Attack 66 Defense 59 Special Attack 61 Special Defense 49 Speed 64 Name Poipole HP 67 Attack 73 Defense 67 Special Attack 73 Special Defense 67 Speed 73 SERIOUSLY THOUGH GO AWAY YOU WEIRD THING! Noah Hagosian - @Nbtful HP 41 Attack 74 Defense 68 Special Attack 57 Special Defense 41 Speed 68 Name Salamence (Mega Salamence) HP 95 Attack 145 Defense 130 Special Attack 120 Special Defense 90 Speed 120 Alright, I asked for that one. I prefer how the mon looks before Mega evolving but still can’t complain too much. Still very overpowered, a good sign for Noah here. Oliver Dahl - @sim04t HP 50 Attack 55 Defense 63 Special Attack 71 Special Defense 56 Speed 51 Name Heatran HP 91 Attack 90 Defense 106 Special Attack 130 Special Defense 106 Speed 77 A cool (or well hot) Fire/Steel legendary from gen 4, certainly a good Pokemon to be compared to even though it would make it pretty difficult to play a normal game of hockey out there. As a legendary should be, it is a member of the OU tier as a truly strong Pokemon. Pakko Pelaï - @PakkyTDH HP 48 Attack 60 Defense 52 Special Attack 68 Special Defense 46 Speed 67 Name Girafarig HP 70 Attack 80 Defense 65 Special Attack 90 Special Defense 65 Speed 85 Sorry Pakko, I’m running out of things to talk about for this thing. Maybe they’ll eventually release a new evolution for it, that would be kinda cool. Pierre Laroche-Durocher - @lespoils HP 60 Attack 36 Defense 71 Special Attack 55 Special Defense 61 Speed 64 Name Illumise HP 65 Attack 47 Defense 75 Special Attack 73 Special Defense 85 Speed 85 This always Female bug type from gen 3 is apparently a firefly, and is related to the always male Volbeat. Other than being one of only 6 Pokemon with names that start with the letter I it doesn’t have any other noteworthy qualities, and belongs squarely within the PU tier. Rasmus Rasmus - @Ramrob HP 58 Attack 63 Defense 48 Special Attack 60 Special Defense 55 Speed 60 Name Poipole HP 67 Attack 73 Defense 67 Special Attack 73 Special Defense 67 Speed 73 Sigh… we either need players with different builds or I need to make some more changes, because this has been ridiculous. Rex Kirkby - @"Ascolap" HP 56 Attack 55 Defense 62 Special Attack 58 Special Defense 50 Speed 71 Name Panpour HP 50 Attack 53 Defense 48 Special Attack 53 Special Defense 48 Speed 64 You gotta respect the spray Pokemon. As a fun fact, it has identical stats to the fire type Pansear and grass type Pansage; this Water type one was the first to show up on my spreadsheet so that was the one Rex gets. None of the trio are actually useful within their Little Cup tier anyways. Stephen Wormster - @HockeyWorm33 HP 58 Attack 54 Defense 64 Special Attack 56 Special Defense 52 Speed 64 Name Arceus HP 120 Attack 120 Defense 120 Special Attack 120 Special Defense 120 Speed 120 Here we have the actual god of the Pokemon universe, as Wormster hacked the system by having such a well-balanced build that the best comparisons were all Pokemon with identical attributes across the board. This actually happened several times in past seasons, but is the only one this time around. As should be pretty obvious, it is an overpowered member of the Uber tier in Pokemon’s competitive scene. Taylor Verhaalen - @TVerhaalen HP 64 Attack 70 Defense 68 Special Attack 52 Special Defense 46 Speed 54 Name Pidove HP 50 Attack 55 Defense 50 Special Attack 36 Special Defense 30 Speed 43 Pidgey wasn’t enough of a pidgeon for the Pokemon universe so in gen 5 they introduced this thing that is clearly the spiritual successor. It does not see any use in the Little Cup tier where it belongs. Thomas Speardane - @Benevolent Thomas HP 58 Attack 50 Defense 69 Special Attack 66 Special Defense 47 Speed 58 Name Slurpuff HP 82 Attack 80 Defense 86 Special Attack 85 Special Defense 75 Speed 72 Bleh, I’m done with this thing finally. Tig Murphy - @notorioustig HP 45 Attack 57 Defense 59 Special Attack 69 Special Defense 44 Speed 69 Name Xatu HP 65 Attack 75 Defense 70 Special Attack 95 Special Defense 70 Speed 95 We had Natu earlier and now we get its evolution, one of the most-chill looking Pokemon in existence and one of only 3 with names starting with an X. It even manages to rise slightly above that PU tier into the Neverused territory, apparently finding a home in teams by removing the entry hazards set down by the opposing team. So don’t try dropping any spikes on the ice around this guy. Veikka Toivanen - @Mazatt HP 45 Attack 45 Defense 68 Special Attack 70 Special Defense 50 Speed 53 Name Pelipper HP 60 Attack 50 Defense 100 Special Attack 95 Special Defense 70 Speed 65 I love this thing. It’s a straight-up pelican that evolves from a straight-up seagull, and it is actually really strong. I used it on the one competitive team I built while playing through Sun version, and it is widely used by top Pokemon fighters in the OU/overused tier. Wendel Stevens - @StamGOD HP 61 Attack 36 Defense 71 Special Attack 45 Special Defense 67 Speed 61 Name Burmy HP 40 Attack 29 Defense 45 Special Attack 29 Special Defense 45 Speed 36 A different picture this time but the same goofy little bug as before. Wolfhard Richter - @Plastic Bowl HP 59 Attack 64 Defense 58 Special Attack 63 Special Defense 48 Speed 59 Name Poipole HP 67 Attack 73 Defense 67 Special Attack 73 Special Defense 67 Speed 73 As you’ve probably guessed, I’m sick of all of the comparisons to this thing. I may have developed an irrational hatred for it. I promise this is actually the last time it makes an appearance though. Goaltenders Aleister Cain - @SlashACM HP 60 Attack 48 Defense 65 Special Attack 58 Special Defense 75 Speed 79 Name Finneon HP 49 Attack 49 Defense 56 Special Attack 49 Special Defense 61 Speed 66 The claim to fame for this fish is that the name makes it easily mistakable for an evolution of Eevee (Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporean, etc.). It is also useable in the Little Cup tier for a similar role as what I described for Xatu a few comparisons ago; it gets rid of obstacles placed against your team while not being awful otherwise. Brando Sando - @BrandoSando18 HP 50 Attack 65 Defense 72 Special Attack 51 Special Defense 60 Speed 79 Name Snivy HP 45 Attack 45 Defense 55 Special Attack 45 Special Defense 55 Speed 63 I can’t decide if the player name is an homage to Brandon Sanderson or not, but since I’ve already discussed Snivy I decided to bring it up here. Johannes Leitner - @"AndrewWarren13" HP 55 Attack 58 Defense 71 Special Attack 48 Special Defense 72 Speed 45 Name Chikorita HP 45 Attack 49 Defense 65 Special Attack 49 Special Defense 65 Speed 45 Another grass starter popping up, this one from all the way back in gen 2. Probably one of the more familiar mons for the more casual followers of the games/show/everything that Pokemon does. At this stage of the evolution line, it is solely in the Little Cup, and doesn’t seem to find any real success there. Larry Atta - @Benito Penagarza HP 50 Attack 70 Defense 64 Special Attack 57 Special Defense 73 Speed 72 Name Ekans HP 35 Attack 60 Defense 44 Special Attack 40 Special Defense 54 Speed 55 Hey did you know that Ekans is snake spelt backwards? Oh everyone knows that by now? Anyways, this intimidating gen 1 poison type has a pretty significant role in the Little Cup competitions, as it uses a move called Coil to continuous boost its own attack and defense before unleashing a strong attack such as Earthquake; with the right support around it, Ekans is able to sweep the entirety of the opposing team of Pokemon right off the ice. Nathan Cosco - @Taxman100 HP 55 Attack 66 Defense 50 Special Attack 50 Special Defense 70 Speed 84 Name Furfrou HP 75 Attack 80 Defense 60 Special Attack 65 Special Defense 90 Speed 102 Somehow it took all the way until the sixth generation of Pokemon for them to make this Poodle thing. You can give it haircuts in game, a truly useless feature that I can’t imagine anyone actually using. It is firmly in the PU tier of competitive Pokemon, though does seem to at least see some amount of usage there. Petr Vrana - @"Marc Bradford" HP 50 Attack 65 Defense 74 Special Attack 52 Special Defense 72 Speed 75 Name Medicham HP 60 Attack 60 Defense 75 Special Attack 60 Special Defense 75 Speed 80 Last but absolutely not least after some of the stinkers we’ve seen, Medicham is a combo of the Fighting and Psychic types from gen 3. After Mega evolving it moves all the way up to the OU tier, but as it stands it can only find a place in Neverused. RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - luke - 07-07-2018 Luke Thomason - @luketd HP 54 Attack 60 Defense 58 Special Attack 67 Special Defense 47 Speed 63 Name Girafarig HP 70 Attack 80 Defense 65 Special Attack 90 Special Defense 65 Speed 85 Back to the giraffe Pokemon, which I think originally was supposed to have a true extra head on the butt instead of the strange tail with a face – sadly they didn’t actually go that route. I love this post. Thank you for this RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - Schultzy - 07-07-2018 RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - Mordaciious - 07-07-2018 This is a super rad idea, great job! I've never heard of Mareanie(haven't played the new gen don't roast me), but based on your description of it being annoying and hard to beat, that pretty much fits Tobias to a T, hahaha.
RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - notorioustig - 07-07-2018 Amazing RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - Wally - 07-07-2018 This. Is. Awesome. RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - ml002 - 07-07-2018 Oh boy this made a return dope RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - Leoben - 07-07-2018 Petr Vrana - @"Marc Bradford" HP 50 Attack 65 Defense 74 Special Attack 52 Special Defense 72 Speed 75 Name Medicham HP 60 Attack 60 Defense 75 Special Attack 60 Special Defense 75 Speed 80 Last but absolutely not least after some of the stinkers we’ve seen, Medicham is a combo of the Fighting and Psychic types from gen 3. After Mega evolving it moves all the way up to the OU tier, but as it stands it can only find a place in Neverused. I uh...is this good? And well done on this. RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - bamba1jl - 07-07-2018 Lol great job bud. I really laughed when I saw this. A+ for creativity. Mega-Salamence is OP. RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - NamelessNate - 07-07-2018 Hey this is awesome! Thanks! It's crazy how many people I recognize from the PBE here! Also you can blame my build all ypu want but it was suggested to me by someone who does well in this league so of course I had to! RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - Fantobens - 07-07-2018 Wow. Just wow. RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - HockeyWorm33 - 07-07-2018 Y'all are giving me WAY too much credit making me Arceus, but I appreciate the compliment haha. This is awesome! RE: S42 SMJHL Draftees into Pokemon Conversion - ThatIrishFellow - 07-07-2018 This is awesome. Can't be too good for my draft stock though... Haha |
